For anyone who has ever needed a quick history on why the right to keep and bear arms is as important today as it was in the early days of the United States, look no further than an amicus brief filed by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) in a case to be heard this fall by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The case, New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Kevin P. Bruen, is actually a challenge of New York State’s Draconian concealed carry permit laws, which require proof of “good cause” to exercise a constitutionally-protected fundamental right.

No charges are being issued in connection with a man fatally shot while visiting a family member in Ann Arbor last month.

The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office has declined to charge anyone in the shooting death of John Myrick IV, 33, of Detroit, who was killed July 9 in an apartment in the 2200 block of South State Street after making several erratic statements about killing the apartment’s occupants.

Senate Bill 141: Resolves New Hampshire’s longstanding problem with delays during handgun purchases, by abolishing the “state gun line” system that the State Police currently use for handgun purchases. Instead, the process for purchasing a handgun will now mirror buying a long gun, which goes through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). This switch in the process will not only reduce taxpayer burdens, it will greatly reduce the number of delays experienced by those attempting to exercise their Second Amendment rights by purchasing a handgun.

NC: Gun control’s racist past is finally makes headlines

In late July, the ACLU sent out a tweet that read, “Racism is foundational to the Second Amendment and its inclusion in the Bill of Rights.” Absurd, of course, and watching the ACLU elevate partisan talking points over the Bill of Rights offers a striking irony, given their supposed commitment to individual rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

The post was prompted by the anti-gun views of two Emory University professors, tying the Second Amendment to fear of Black Americans. Yet, most Second Amendment advocates have long been aware of the truth that gun control laws gained momentum because of racism and the desire to control and terrorize non-whites.

A woman in Yakima County found a burglar on the run hiding in her garage and attempted to hold him at gunpoint while she called 911.

During the phone call, the suspect escaped the garage to his getaway vehicle, a “Snap-on-Tools” truck that had been reported stolen half an hour earlier.

As he drove away, the homeowner shot at the vehicle in an attempt to puncture the tires. She failed, but law enforcement spotted the vehicle soon after, but the suspect was initially nowhere in sight. Eventually, one of the deputies checking the area found the suspect with another stolen vehicle, this one an ATV.

Unsurprisingly, that politician is Marjorie Taylor Greene, whose own existence is hopefully inspiring scientists to develop a vaccine against crazy. At an event last month in Alabama, the Georgia representative, who has previously compared mask mandates to the Holocaust and vaccine requirements to segregation, suggested that the Biden administration’s door-to-door vaccination push will result in government officials showing up to people’s homes and demanding personal information for extremely nefarious purposes, and that those people should be greeted with the barrel of a gun.

In minutes from several recent board meetings, NRA staffers told board members that Eddie had reached an average of more than a million children per year since its inception. And while this is technically true (32,371,095 averaged over 32 years between 1988 and 2020 yields 1,011,597), a mere 32,000 children were reached by the Eddie Eagle program in 2020, a drop of nearly 95 percent compared to 2019.

The documents show the steep slide wasn’t due to last year’s COVID-19 lockdowns, either: In 2019, Eddie Eagle reached 35 percent fewer children than in 2018. In all, participation dropped 96 percent in 24 months, as the NRA cut funding on “safety, training & education” by $14 million, or more than a third.

You and your roommates are at home on a Wednesday night. It is just before midnight when two strangers kick in your front door. These strangers are armed with a rifle and a handgun. They start robbing the place and threatening your roommates. You own a gun. You grab your gun and come out of your room. You shoot the armed attacker nearest to you. Now, both attackers run from your home.

The story isn’t clear if you called the police or if your roommates did. You put your gun away and talk to the police when they arrive. Police find your attacker at Children’s hospital. From there, he was taken to a University hospital in critical condition. He will be charged with burglary and perhaps armed robbery. You are not charged with a crime.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., suggested at a recent Republican fundraiser in Alabama that Southerners could threaten President Joe Biden's "police state friends" with guns if they show up at their homes asking about their coronavirus vaccination status.

The late-July event in Dothan was closed to the media, but a video clip of some of her comments leaked, according to the Alabama Political Reporter.

The anti-gun Brady Organization is funding a Nevada lawsuit against the Korean company Kyung Chang Industry Co. LTD (KCI) and KCI USA over the company’s magazines.

The lawsuit stems from an August 2019 mass murder that took place in Dayton, Ohio. In that mass murder, a far-leftist killer murdered nine people and injured 17 others before being killed by police. The killer used a KCI magazine and an AR-15 style pistol. Since the magazine held more than ten rounds, the families claim it made the shooter “deadlier,” and KCI USA was negligent for selling the magazines.

McCallum said, "When ready, I lined up the target in the cross hairs, pulled the stock onto my shoulder, squeezed the trigger and — BA-BOOM!!!!! It is difficult to describe the impact — physical and personal — of that first shot. It felt like a meteor had struck the earth in front of me. A deep shock wave coursed through my body, the recoil rippling through my arms and right shoulder with astounding power. Being that close to an explosion of such magnitude — controlled and focused as it was — rattled me."

Robert Beard (My Turn, Aug. 3) needs to be reminded that we in the United States do not live in a democracy. We live in a Republic.

Next, he definitely needs to go and read all of the Federalist papers to understand the quality and need of an Electoral College. It safe guards the minority states against the tyranny of the larger majority states.

After reading those he should read some more of American history and Supreme Court rulings that stated that the Second Amendment applies to all citizens not just those that are in militias.

Illinois State Police is notifying about 2,000 Illinoisans with Firearm Owners Identification cards that their personal information may have been compromised in a hack of the agency’s portal.

“Out of necessity, some of the online account parameters put in place for ease of use and convenience years ago have been appropriately modified and tightened to prevent unauthorized users from attempting to further expand the extent of the identify fraud,” the police agency reported.

Last spring, the state legislature — with the support of only Democrats and no Republicans — passed Senate Bill 554; Gov. Kate Brown signed the bill in June. Its main provision: "An owner or possessor of a firearm shall, at all times that the firearm is not carried by or under the control of the owner, possessor or authorized person, secure the firearm with an engaged trigger or cable lock; in a locked container; or in a gun room" — in other words, in a way that renders it inoperable or inaccessible for immediate use. Unless postponed by rank-and-file Oregonians (more on which below), SB 554 is scheduled to become law in late September.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Those, who have the command of the arms in a country are masters of the state, and have it in their power to make what revolutions they please. [Thus,] there is no end to observations on the difference between the measures likely to be pursued by a minister backed by a standing army, and those of a court awed by the fear of an armed people. — Aristotle, as quoted by John Trenchard and Water Moyle, An Argument Shewing, That a Standing Army Is Inconsistent with a Free Government, and Absolutely Destructive to the Constitution of the English Monarchy [London, 1697].
