"Anti-gun Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick - jailed for violating terms of his bond as he faces trial on eight felony counts - should resign before bringing any more disgrace to his office, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today."

"Kilpatrick is a prominent member of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's anti-gun Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition. The irony, said CCRKBA Legislative Affairs Director Joe Waldron, is that because the mayor is under indictment, he cannot possess a firearm." ...

"Having adopted the deceptive tactics suggested a few years ago by billionaire gun-hater Andrew McKelvey, gun and hunting ban lobbyist groups go to great lengths these days to deny that their ultimate goals are to stamp out all civilian ownership of firearms, or to eradicate all forms of hunting." ...

"One of the loudest voices of warning about the gun ban lobby's true intentions is the National Rifle Association. And now ... we may have even more reason to believe the NRA when they say groups like the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Freedom States Alliance, States United to Prevent Gun Violence and the Violence Policy Center are lying about their true goals:"

"They had a (wo)man on the inside." ...

"For the person in Straight Talk who says the U.S. Constitution does not give an individual the right to keep and bear arms:"

"The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution does not establish the right to keep and bear arms. None of the provisions of the Constitution establish any 'natural' rights. They recognize such rights, but the repeal of such provisions would not end such rights. Such rights were considered by many of the framers as obvious or 'self-evident,' but they were immersed in the prevailing thought of the day, as expressed in the writings of Madison, Hamilton and others, which discussed 'natural rights' in some detail. ..." ...

"As I write this piece, I suspect analysts in law enforcement 'fusion centers' across the country are tracking the recent Internet brouhaha over Mike Vanderboegh's writing. Those analysts are trying ... to create an estimate ... as to the actual resistance probability and capability of America's gun owners."

"The governmental mandarins ... know full well ... violence works, especially when used against soft, scared targets."

"After all, they have employed it repeatedly themselves - 'demonstrations' ... of what could happen on a much wider scale if folks get too uppity." ...

"The Brady Bunch thinks discussion of such an eventuality is outrageous:"

"... armed revolt has been treated as a legitimate policy answer to popular gun control measures by one blogger after another in the gun community - rather than denounced as immoral or as street-corner gibberish..." ...

When should a kid get an Airsoft gun (if ever)?

"My 11-year-old has been bugging me all summer to talk his mother into letting him buy an Airsoft gun (I am, of course, an assumed yes). When I was a kid I had a BB gun, as did most of my friends. We promised to be careful, and then we shot each other in the butt and accidentally put some holes in windows. But nobody lost an eye, and it seemed like just part of a normal childhood." ...

"The pro case is that letting him have the gun is an opportunity to teach serious gun safety, which will be an important lesson that will serve him well in later life. The con case is, well, everything from the aforementioned eye to encouraging more of a gun obsession than the Nerf guns have already inspired. ..." ...

"Regardless of political opinions, the decision in District of Columbia v. Heller is a constitutional junkie's dream." ...

"It is a rare Supreme Court opinion that relies upon legal principles dating back to 1689. It is even more unusual to examine the intent of Stuart Kings in England."

"The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution has been litigated very little because everyone thought they understood what it meant until crimes using guns skyrocketed in the last 20 years, causing the political establishment to take a fresh look at the reach of the Second Amendment." ...

"It had seemed as if the landmark decision on the Second Amendment that the Supreme Court handed down earlier this year might, paradoxically, end up hurting the National Rifle Association. The ruling itself was a victory for anti-gun-control forces ... But in the process, the NRA's traditional scare tactic -- dire warnings about gun-grabbing liberals -- seemed to have been crippled, if not dealt a mortal blow."

"Well, if you are willing to credit the NRA's leaders with only one thing, give them this: They're resourceful. Faced with this dilemma, the organization came up with a simple solution. It -- pardon the pun -- stuck to its guns, facts be damned." ...

'I've waited 66 years to see this come to Illinois,' Peddicord said. ... "In 1993, Charleston's City Council took a bold step to halt this deadly practice in the state capital. Members limited pistol sales to just one per month per customer at Charleston gun stores. A Gazette poll at that time found 80 percent of residents favored the safety measure. Council also banned pistol-carrying on city property, except for police."

"Now, a gun-lover group wants City Council to revoke those 1993 laws. Good grief - that's absurd. Why would the gun-lovers need to buy more than 12 new pistols per year? Do they want dope dealers to resume their drugs-for-guns cycle here? Also, do they want to carry loaded pistols inside City Hall and the council chamber?" ...

"Primarily mentioned was that every citizen should have the right to own a gun. The second interpretation is that citizens should have the right to own a weapon for use in a government-regulated militia."
