In this amazing video Virtual President Bill Whittle explains in clear concise term, with unequivocal data, the fallacies of the gun control movement and the real reason we have a second amendment. It’s not to hunt, it’s not to protect us from criminals, it’s not even so we can protect ourselves from foreign terrorists. Watch this video and it all becomes strikingly clear. |

Harrington writes, "There are now more non-military government employees who carry guns than there are U.S. Marines, according to a new report. |

As expected, a ban on guns at the Iowa State Fair will remain in place this year. The news comes after a heated legislative committee hearing in which people argued both for and against allowing fair-goes to carry guns. Several people spoke Friday at a meeting of the Iowa Legislature’s Administrative Rules Review Committee against allowing guns at the fair. Opponents described scenarios in which drunken and irresponsible guests toting handguns could create dangerous situations, the Des Moines Register reports.

Speaking from the games in Rio de Janeiro, U.S. Olympic shooter Kim Rhode said she is pro-concealed carry and against the plethora of new gun controls passed by California lawmakers and signed by Governor Jerry Brown (D). Rhode intimated that some find it strange that an Olympian speaks out on political issues back home, but she believes the times demand it. She said, “I’m definitely becoming more vocal because I see the need.”

Authorities say two thieves stole about $20,000 in guns from a Sumter store in a well-planned heist that took less than four minutes. Sumter County Sheriff's spokesman Ken Bell told media outlets that he men broke the lock on the door of Tony's Gun Shop around 2 a.m. Friday. Video surveillance shows one thief smashing display cases with a hammer while a second thief scooped up handguns and threw them into a bag.

In her Central Florida 100 comment on July 31, Joanie Schirm attempts to conflate the efforts of MADD — Mothers Against Drunk Driving — with more gun-control initiatives, such as those proposed by the League of Women Voters. The League, which has set its sights squarely on the National Rifle Association and its members, would be well-advised to follow the lesson of MADD in going after the offenders. MADD has been successful in changing behavior and reducing drunken driving by influencing legislation that is more punitive. Good work. Sober drivers are not having their constitutional rights curtailed by the efforts of MADD. |

A week ago in this space I wrote in support of Donald Trump. I gave three reasons for voting for Trump, beginning with the most important: the fate of the United States Supreme Court. The fact is that the confirmation of even one Hillary Clinton nominee to the Supreme Court will turn the court in a hard left, almost certainly irreversible direction. This isn't really debatable. But my premise that this reality compels a vote for Trump turns out to be very debatable. |

If you are going to complain about someone’s ignorance or logic, then you had better make sure your own ducks are in a row. Case in point would be Frank Werker’s Aug. 2 letter. The Indiana Constitution states that the militia “shall consist of all persons over the age of seventeen (17) years.” This means that adults who own guns are in the militia as well as those that don’t. Their training level is irrelevant. |

The ominous 50th anniversary of the University of Texas mass shooting from atop the 307-foot UT Tower should signal lawmakers in states like Kansas to abort plans to allow firearms on university and college campuses. Unless a new Legislature repeals the law in early 2017, next July people in Kansas will be able to carry firearms onto community college, college and university campuses, despite widespread opposition from faculty and staff. |

Florida has more gun manufacturers than any other state except Texas, after a surge of nearly 350 percent in licenses for gun makers fueled by the nation's growing demand for firearms. The increase in gun manufacturing licenses since 2009 has strained the resources of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives — the federal law enforcement agency that monitors the nation's gun sales and distribution. As the number of licenses to make firearms grew nationally by nearly 250 percent from 3,040 licenses in 2009 to 10,503 last year, the number of special agents watching manufacturers has increased only 30 percent, from 623 in 2009 to 811 in 2015. |

Our recent trip to Gunsite Academy has us feeling a bit like we’re trapped in an infomercial: “But wait! There’s more …” Notice, however, we didn’t say “the infomercial from hell.” That’s because everything that comes to mind from our sojourn in the high desert is a good thing. Even our repression of the memories of way-too-clearly-evident shortcomings is proceeding nicely.

Charity firearm raffles are a common occurrence throughout much of America—and for good reason. Law-abiding gun owners, or prospective gun owners, get a shot a winning a firearm that might otherwise be outside their budget, and they can do so knowing that even if they lose, the proceeds will go to a good cause. But even the intersection of Second Amendment rights and the charitable American spirit was too much for one anti-gun activist in New Mexico.

LaShun Roy supports a ban on semi-automatic weapons and more comprehensive background checks. But the 21-year-old gun owner from rural Texas doesn't consider gun-control measures a top priority in this year's elections. For Keionna Cottrell, a 24-year-old who lives on Chicago's South Side and whose brother was shot and killed this year in another Illinois city, few things are more important than limiting access to guns. |

Garland Martin Taylor cut off his hair in the spring. The Chicago-based sculptor then used his black strands, feathers and shell casings to make 300 “bullets,” and attached them to guitar strings, as a response to gun violence in his home city. The sculptural installation, titled Pflight—which refers to the exodus of black families fleeing the violence of their neighborhood, similar to what is currently happening on the southside of Chicago—is one area of a three-part, gun-violence related exhibition called This Heat, now at Weinberg/Newton Gallery in Chicago.

After surviving 20 years despite hostility from city leaders, the last gun shop in Minneapolis has faded away. Koscielski’s Guns and Ammo, which dueled with City Hall since its opening in 1995, turned out the lights in recent weeks. It was the last full-service gun shop in Minneapolis or St. Paul — where zoning has made such shops nearly impossible to operate.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy ... censorship. When any government, or any church, for that matter, undertakes to say to it's subjects, 'This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,' the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything. You cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." --Robert A. Heinlein, "Revolt in 2100" (Pg. 68-69, Baen Books paperback edition, 1999 printing) |
