"I can assure you from personal experience, Mr. Buchanan, this law 'infringes' every owner of these firearms. Under its provisions many formerly available models have been forbidden from further import. Costs on the remaining models have sky-rocketed, in many cases tripling in price within a year or two. That is essentially a violation of the constitutional prohibition against seizure without just compensation."

A national pet charity is urging animal lovers to be aware of the number of air gun injuries which animals are increasingly suffering.

Each year in Britain over 10,000 cats are killed or maimed by airgun injuries, which breaks down to 30 feline casualties every day.

Because cats are impossible to supervise it makes them idea targets for cruel gunslingers to take a pot shot.

PDSA – Britain's leading veterinary charity – is urging pet owners to be watchful and always report any cases of airgun injuries to the local police.

"I’m really tired of the way television news readers—anchormen— portray guns as the great American evil. I can understand why anchorwomen object. Girls, as a rule, don't like guns. It is when the baritone voices express outrage at gun ownership that I find myself scratching my head."

"I blame our education system." ...

"So, here is my modest proposal—firearm training for television commentators. Get these boys and girls out of their studios and on the firing range for a day. Give them the basic National Rifle Association safety course, in order to remind them that responsible gun owners take their hobby seriously. Then, let them tear off a few dozen rounds from various caliber handguns and rifles, to show them that marksmanship is a challenging sport."

"The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence (ICHV) called on Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-14th) to strengthen the federal ban on assault weapons that will sunset in September of 2004 unless Speaker Hastert and Congress take action. Since the passage of the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban, the gun industry has made various 'clones' of banned weapons and made minor cosmetic changes that do not reduce the lethality of assault rifles in order to circumvent the ban and continue selling semi-automatic assault rifles. ICHV highlighted the need for a strengthened law by identifying gun stores and dealers in suburban Chicago areas, and in and around Dennis Hastert's congressional district that sell assault weapons, such as the Bushmaster assault rifle used by the D.C. snipers."
