And this from a gun-control nut

"What happens when a woman and her two daughters die when robbers invade their home and torch the place?"

"Here's what happens: Even commentators who use the phrase 'gun nuts' start writing, 'Might the Second Amendment matter almost as much as the First? I think the answer is yes.'"

"The commentator is Keith C. Burris, who runs the editorial page at the local daily, the Manchester, Conn., Journal Inquirer. His essay in the wake of the outrageous crime suggests a slew of things to stop such — sterner penalties, psychological help for criminals, peace training, dobermans — and then suggests that maybe even liberals, of which he is one, ought to respect people’s right to self-defense." ...

"1- OSHA's Gun Ban"

"The lamestream media told you:"
"Nothing, though the dangerous and highly unregulated Internet circulated numerous stories on proposed OSHA regulations that would have a subtle side effect of... closing all federally licensed firearms dealers in America."

"The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:"
"It is hard to imagine a hotter hot button than a brazen attempt to delete the right to keep and bear arms from the people. It is even harder to imagine a bureaucrat or politician who doesn't know that." ...

Anti-Gun Argument, Always Pure Hysterics

"The anti-gun argument is always built solely upon emotional excess. It's all about 'feelings' and 'fears' and almost never built on any facts or reality. In another example of the kind of hand-wringing, excessive, faux compassion that ignores the real statistics we are so used to, the Charlotte Observer has given space to one of their propagandists... I mean writers... to vent against the evil gun, once again." ...

"During the late 1960s, certain black nationalists took up the slogan "Guns, baby, guns," the logic being that if they as American citizens were being oppressed by tyrannical elements within our government that refused to observe their civil rights, then they had the right to arm and protect themselves under the Second Amendment, which ironically was written for just such an eventuality."

"As a supporter of our grotesquely compromised Second Amendment rights, I wonder if it isn't time for law-abiding Americans to consider the day when they may have to arm themselves – clandestinely, if necessary – against our enemies from without and within, a line which is growing more and more obscure with each passing week." ...

The American Hunters and Shooters Association is one such group. Another, larger and much older organization, is the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)."

[KABA Note:Interestingly enough, the gun control movement also was rooted in 'white men's anxiety about the civil rights movement'. Specifically early gun laws were passed to disarm blacks.] Right-wing politicians have deliberately exploited that anxiety, exaggerating the dangers of government power and of criminals who supposedly target every unarmed person, she says. (Or are you a big-government fascist come to take our guns and put us in a camp?) Do you support gun control? (Or are you a right-wing loon with an assault rifle at the bedside?) The polarization has led to a mishmash of state and federal laws that disserve the majority of Americans - and Westerners - who don't want to take guns away from solid citizens or rural areas, but don't want their kids killed in gang crossfire, either." ...

"In response to Drew Holcomb's Aug. 2 letter, I don't know anyone who claims that guns are the cause of violence in our society. Rather, what is obvious is that guns make deadly violence much more likely, so that controlling and reducing their availability seems to me to be responsible and sane policy."

"If we were to accept Mr Holcomb's ill-considered claim that 'guns are simply tools,' then we need to ask him: What is the purpose of this tool? ... Well it's [sic] only purpose is to shoot bullets which, depending on the shooter's aim, may kill a living being, maybe your spouse, child or friend. So this is simply a 'tool' that everyone should have in their toolbox?" ...

"We were talking about shooting a man."

"I mean we were really talking about it. It wasn’t just this idle, full-of-you-know-what, usually inappropriate chit-chat based on the flick you caught at the theater last weekend."

"Max Miller was telling us the ins and outs of shooting a guy."

"'Handgun combat is a lot like real estate,' Miller said. 'It is location, location, location. If you put a .22-caliber round in the middle of someone's brain, it will stop 'em. A .44 round through someone’s shoulder, most people are done playing for the day, but some guys aren't.'"

"I was having this conversation because the state of Kansas says I have to. I'm in the process of applying for a concealed carry permit ..." ...

"Guns really do not kill people. Criminals often use guns to kill or wound people — and unsafe handling of firearms also takes a toll."

"Hunter-safety programs are relentless in drumming home how important it is to guard against allowing familiarity with firearms to relax too far into sloppy gun handling. In fact, hunters and folks who target shoot are well aware that any device with which a projectile can be propelled through the air can be dangerous."

"Unfortunately, even 'toy' guns can be dangerous. Too many people don’t understand that even BB and pellet guns can be deadly, however. The danger they pose can go far beyond, 'You'll put your eye out!'" ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
As nightfall does not come all at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight. And it is in such twilight that we all must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness. — Justice William O. Douglas, US Supreme Court (1939-75)
