"Evan F. Nappen, Attorney at Law and author of the 'NEW JERSEY GUN LAW GUIDE' is offering a $5000 reward..."

Submitter's Note: Monday's Gun Rights Examiner commentary gives you a chance to make a cool Five Grand. Also watch a citizen disarmament apologist get torn to shreds, which is always fun.

"New Brady poster boy Colin Goddard, who was helpless during the Virginia Tech murders and now endorses laws to impose defenselessness on the rest of us, expressed outrage. 'I was soon infuriated,' he pouted, 'by the gun fanatics in America who immediately used this massacre to assert that strong gun laws, like Norway’s, don’t work.'"

"Well, they don’t. Sorry if reality offends you, pal."

The Renton City Prosecutor wants to send a cartoonist to jail for mocking the police department in a series of animated Internet videos.
The "South-Park"-style animations parody everything from officers having sex on duty to certain personnel getting promoted without necessary qualifications. While the city wants to criminalize the cartoons, First Amendment rights advocates say the move is an "extreme abuse of power."

"NORTH SALT LAKE — Police say the victims of a home invasion robbery early Monday appear to have been selected at random. Investigators say they are concerned not only at the apparent randomness of the crime, but also the home invaders punched one resident in the nose and held a gun to another in an effort to escape.

"It's pretty brazen to go into a home that's clearly occupied and to go to that level of intimidation to get out," said North Salt Lake Police Chief Craig Black.

As of Monday afternoon, the wanted men had not been arrested." {emphasis added}

Submitter's note: Yea, no need for a gun close to you at home. You're paranoid if you keep a gun close to you at home. Paranoid sez the cowards.

A San Diego police officer facing hit-and-run and drunk driving charges was found dead in the backyard of his home Monday morning, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

David Hall, 41, was discovered slumped against the rear wall of his home in the Clairemont Mesa neighborhood of San Diego. His wife called police shortly after the 10 a.m. shooting.

At about 4 p.m., the victim claims her ex-boyfriend took her at gun point from her home on Northfield. Then put her in the passenger seat of her car and he drove, but his alleged plan back fired in less than a mile.

"As they took off and were coming down Raymar Road she was able to get into her purse where she had a small caliber hand gun and was able to use the handgun. She shot the assailant and was able to escape," Sgt. Crowson explains.

I keep my Beretta holstered as a guy wielding a crowbar pops out from behind a car in the parking lot after work, but I'm ready to draw.

When he says he needs help changing a tire, I relax - until he yells something and points over my left shoulder. At the same time, movement catches my eye in front of me to my right: Two more dudes are approaching me. I draw on them but quickly realize they're not armed.

An instant later, I hear loud cracks behind me, and I swear I can feel the concussion. I swivel and see a fourth guy, who's armed. I get off two shots. Both strike his upper torso - good shots - and he goes down.

Republican members of Illinois congressional delegation and one Democrat are urging Gov. Pat Quinn and legislative leaders to allow Illinoisans to carry concealed weapons in public.

...

Among those signing the letter were Republican U.S. Reps. Bobby Schilling of Colona, Tim Johnson of Urbana, Adam Kinzinger of Manteno, Aaron Schock of Peoria and John Shimkus of Collinsville. U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello of Belleville was the only Democrat to sign the letter.

...

There currently are two lawsuits pending in federal district court seeking to overturn Illinois' ban on carrying concealed weapons. U.S. District Judge Sue Myerscough said Thursday she could issue a preliminary ruling in one of the cases within the coming days.

Airport Carry Is Legal In 44 States, But Florida Will Put You In Jail

44 States allow lawful carry of firearms in the common terminal and baggage claim areas of airports.

There are federal laws that restrict firearms, knives, and other weapons in the “sterile area” beyond the security checkpoint but the unsecured areas of the terminal are subject to state law.

Florida, and only five other states, make the entire airport terminal off limits even to carry license holders while armed. The US Supreme Court made it clear in DC v. Heller (2008) that Americans have the right to “carry weapons in case of confrontation,” but this right can be restricted “in sensitive places”.

I am strongly opposed to the editorial concerning the magazine capacity of firearms ["There's no reason for 30-round clips," Aug. 4]. The magazine ban cited by Newsday existed from 1994 to 2004 and was a resounding failure. Nevertheless, the proponents of the ban want to resurrect it and give it another try.

When Kaci Lusk started a blog for women interested in firearms, she was surprised by the curiosity and concerns it spurred from women around her hometown of Borger.

Some were curious: “How do I get a concealed carry license for a handgun?” “How do you conceal a handgun in a skirt?” “Do you carry a little or big gun, and why?”

Others were concerned: “What does your husband think about you carrying a gun?” “How does your daughter feel about it?”

The response to her blog, “That Texas Lady,” stirred Lusk’s own curiosity, which eventually led her to Julianna Crowder and A Girl and a Gun Women’s Shooting League.

WA: Oly Park goat attack might have been avoided with sport hunt

Nowadays, people can carry firearms in national parks for self-defense. That was not a choice 20-plus years ago when F&H News editorialized for the special goat hunt. But today, a hunting option still makes sense.

A carefully-managed sport hunt would raise money for the park through the sale of permits. The park could conduct a lottery for a limited number of permits.

Such a hunt would make the animals wary of humans and less likely to confront them. Animals that become accustomed to close human contact lose their fear. Alas, some people that become accustomed to close contact with wild animals lose their good sense, and sometimes their lives. Too many people forget that wild animals are wild.

B 798 is alive and well! California SB 798 is still going strong, but representatives in the California State General Assembly are playing games!

Sen. de Leon, author of the bill, heard the overwhelming objections about forcing airsoft, pellet and BB guns to be either clear or brightly colored and changed SB 798.

He’s rewritten the bill and is leaving it up to individual cities and counties to make laws similar (or more restrictive) than his original bill proposed. SB 798 has become a permission slip for any county or city to force all airsoft, BB and pellet guns in an area to be clear or brightly colored.

The left claims to be advocates for the poor. Yet, instead of passing constitutional carry, the left forced Wisconsin citizens to settle for a permit system. The poor, who live in the most crime-infested areas, will be forced to pay for a permit to be lawfully armed if they want protection in the urban jungle. If any other fee hit the poor hardest, the left would be screaming, yet this doesn't bother them in the least.

Citing threats of intimidation and reports of issues nationwide, the Casper City Council Monday informally approved making it illegal to “open carry” guns at public meetings.

The decision could be the first such in the state and may prompt lawsuits from Second Amendment advocacy groups or others.

The decision prompted Sen. Kit Jennings, R-Casper, to attend the meeting and express concern on behalf of constituents who had complained to him.

“There’s a movement in this state that’s big, and they’re not going to like it,” Jennings told council members.

...

“If the City of Casper decides to challenge the state preemption, Wyoming Gun Owners is prepared to file a lawsuit against the city.”

The “Firearms Destruction Prevention Act” (or “Disposition of Firearms in State and Local Custody Act”) would require a firearm collected by law enforcement to be auctioned to federally licensed firearms dealers. Prior to the auction, reasonable efforts must be made to determine if the firearm was lost or stolen and, if at all possible, returned to its lawful owner. Alaska, Kentucky and Tennessee have already adopted this legislation.

The light popping sound was coming from slow-moving lead projectiles released from their brass prisons and sent sailing down steel tubes.

Looking at the long row of nearly 200 rimfire shooters indicated each person on this relay was engrossed in the paper targets set 50 meters away.

To heck with a pesky reporter snooping around, trying to find out why a person is so willing to dress up in tight-fitting leather jackets that overlay skin-gripping synthetic undergarments designed to "wick away" moisture.

On Monday, days after reports of a possible gunman at Virginia Tech shook the campus and revived fears of the 2007 attack, an organization that promotes the right of licensed gun owners to carry concealed firearms on college campuses brought together a number of speakers for a discussion here on the issues of gun control and Second Amendment rights.

The discussion was part of the second national conference of the group Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, which was held at the National Press Club and supported by the Second Amendment Foundation.

NRA members are rightfully concerned about the protection of gun rights and the longevity of the shooting sports.

We know the successes we have enjoyed in the past are due in no small part to our strength in numbers.

Furthermore, the key to maintaining and building on our past victories is not only to sustain, but to also grow the size of our organization. To that end, NRA tries to provide and promote opportunities for people to get involved in the shooting sports.

The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign announced today the national “Gun Owners for Ron Paul” coalition to energize voters who value their Second Amendment rights.

“Rep. Ron Paul has justly been dubbed a champion of our Constitution. He works tirelessly to stop – and reverse – federal encroachment on the Second Amendment. While other members of Congress traded their integrity to get votes for pet projects, Ron Paul earned the nickname ‘Dr. No’ for his unwillingness to abrogate the Constitution,” said Ed Dolan of Central City, Iowa.

Here we go again. Another ad hoc group focused on limiting 2nd Amendment rights upon innocent Americans. The more scrutiny into the topic of controlling gun sales, the worse it gets. Add “The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence” to our list of groups to battle. Founded in 1974, they have spent decades seeking to control gun sales and sue gun makers, arguing in a recent blog post “Actually, guns do kill people.” No, they do not. Someone has to pull the trigger, stupid!

First, law enforcement officials said there was a massive melee at the Wisconsin State Fair, in which hundreds of unruly teens assaulted fair-goers. The large mobs greatly outnumbered police and it took several hours before order was restored.

"The fair board has decided there will be no weapons -- firearms, knives, billy clubs -- allowed on the fairgrounds. The state fair board has made that decision, and we're going to enforce that," Bright said.

Dear Mr. Mann,
The Bill of Rights is not an a la carte menu from which you may pick and choose; it is what is, the law of the land. I find it more than a little ironic that as you exercise your Right as guaranteed by (not provided by) the First Amendment you would throw out the Second.

A firearm is a tool, and like any tool can be used for good purposes or ill. A knife, pencil, hammer, plow, or a gun are neither good nor evil. Only the actions of the tool-user can be called such, as any non-juvenile would understand. It would indeed be a great tyranny (even to you) if every firearm were treated as you have proposed.

Similarly, Christiansburg police, assisted by Montgomery County sheriff's deputies, searched Thursday for a man reported to be carrying a holstered gun near the health department on Pepper Street. They found a man carrying a cellphone on his hip.

In both cases, even if a man had been carrying a gun, he very well may have been in compliance with state laws and university policies.

Unless convicted of a felony or otherwise disqualified from possessing a firearm, it is legal to "walk down the sidewalk with an unconcealed weapon today. A lot of people don't realize that," Christiansburg Police Chief Mark Sisson said.

Oh, and one more thing about ‘regulation’: the second amendment is the lethal force which backs our sovereign authority as supreme. Any and all gun laws are a challenge to that authority and therefore reflect a very poor understanding of who is in fact the Sovereign under our system.

How many candidates can you count who will actually say that our authority is supreme in this country? I can think of three.
