Illinois’ circuit court clerks said there shouldn’t be any problems meeting the requirements of a new state law that puts them into the gun control effort. Circuit court clerks have had to report mental health orders from a judge for years, but it was loosely enforced. A new state law now places greater emphasis on making them responsible for telling the Illinois State Police any time a judge rules someone is mentally ill or had a mental health issue. The idea is keep guns out of those people’s hands. |

Once upon a time, when the world was fresh and new and all handguns were revolvers, you could tailor your sidearm to the size and shape of your own hand pretty easily and cheaply. You could get grips (or, more properly, “stocks”) that were smooth or textured, big or small, with or without finger grooves, and made from all manner of materials.

Of late, slim and lightweight 9 mm AR-type carbines have become very popular. There are several manufacturers producing guns designed to take Glock magazines, and their success is based on the economy of the 9 mm round, ability to shoot the carbine more accurately than a pistol and the fact most indoor ranges will welcome 9 mm ARs when the blast and power of the 5.56 NATO cartridge are not allowed.

With gun ownership comes substantial responsibilities. Conscientious gun owners already embrace them, and anyone who is intent on becoming a gun owner should be ready to accept them. Responsible gun ownership doesn’t start and stop in the home, at the target range, in the deer stand, or in the goose pit, either. It’s a commitment to be met wherever you are, and encompasses much more than basic safety principles. It extends to care-and-maintenance, shooter welfare and beyond. In short, it’s a 24/7 mission. |

During World War II, America’s enemies cut off our military’s supplies. Back home, our Greatest Generation responded by holding scrap metal drives to support the troops. Farmers turned in tractors. Moms gave up pots and pans. Even kids chipped in, offering their toys for the cause. Americans of all backgrounds sacrificed to protect freedom. We don’t see much of that community-minded patriotism anymore, and as a result, the freedom our Greatest Generation protected is starting to slip away. Schools don’t teach the Constitution. Hollywood and the media ridicule our morals, while their doctrine of political correctness censors our beliefs. And the Second Amendment is yet again under siege.

Texas businesses that ask customers to disarm themselves will have to pay for injuries incurred in these gun-free zones if state Sen. Bob Hall has his way. Hall, R-Edgewood, wants to propose a law that will make gun-free businesses liable for "any harm that befalls patrons as a result of being deprived of his or her weapon." The law, Hall says, would "encourage Texas businesses to do the right thing and allow their patrons to carry the firearms they have lawfully trained with for self-protection."

According to the Los Angeles Times, she learned to shoot from her father. The family hunts. She took her first deer with a single shot on a hunting trek with her grandfather. How she described the hunting experience to the Washington Post back on July 6 is enough to make anti-gunners and anti-hunters cringe.

One of the great things about being a gun accumulator—as opposed to being a gun collector—is that I can acquire just about any type of gun that piques my interest. My acquisitions don’t have to fit into any logical collecting scheme. You know what I mean. They don’t have to follow the developmental evolution of some specific type, make, or caliber of firearm. All they have to do is tickle my fancy. One of my most recent purchases—the Savage Model 1903, the subject of this report—is a good example.
