A 70-year-old New York veteran spent months fighting to get his guns back after being wrongfully targeted for confiscation after a bureaucratic screw-up labeled him mentally ill. Don Hall, who served in Vietnam, said police showed up at his house late one night with an order to take his guns. Hall said he was surprised by the order and didn't have any idea why it declared him "mentally defective." When he told police he hadn't ever had any mental issues, they told him he must've done something to trigger the state's restrictive New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act. |

Camilla was Roy Weatherby’s wife, and by all accounts she was a class act. So it is fitting that Weatherby’s first women’s-specific rifle carries her name. After range testing, I took the Camilla hunting in Namibia. The Camilla is built around the proven Vanguard Series 2 action and comes with Weatherby’s sub-MOA guarantee. It’s offered in .243 Win., 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08 Rem., and .308 Win. All have a 13-inch length-of-pull, 20-inch blued barrel, 5+1 magazine capacity (4+1 for the Creedmoor), and weigh around 6 ½ pounds. The rifle sports a Turkish walnut stock with rosewood accents and a satin finish, with a subtle fleur-de-lis motif in the checkering on the wrist and forend. |

Women are a driving force for public opinion and policy in our nation. Women are also America’s fastest-growing segment of firearms owners. We train for safety, we teach firearms education classes, and we enjoy hunting and the outdoors. However, some women are also behind a recent organized march from Fairfax, Virginia, to the NRA Headquarters 18 miles away to protest gun ownership — specifically, the gun-rights protection efforts of the National Rifle Association. |

The National Rifle Association claims its mission is to protect and defend constitutional freedoms. Yet with a recent advertisement that says the NRA is “coming for” the New York Times, the organization does just the opposite. “We the people have had it,” NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch says in the ad. “We’ve had it with your narratives, your propaganda, your fake news. |

A year ago, students with a permit could begin carrying concealed handguns on public universities in Texas. The critic-predicted Armageddon never did materialize, a fact the Texas Tribune summarized with, “And that year was relatively quiet.” Chris Meyer of Texas A&M told the reporter there was, “Virtually no impact at all.” Texas Tech University President Lawrence Schovanec called the last 12 months, “Amazingly quiet.” Now, the state’s smaller community colleges—more than 70, in all—followed suit on Aug. 1, when their grace period to get signage and other requirements up to standards expired. |

Forming a proper sight picture, trigger control and a steady hand are all important skills that shooting enthusiasts have to work diligently to develop. On the other hand, getting a favorite shooting iron good and dirty is pretty easy to do. Whether you pound through hundreds of rounds during a competition weekend or you’re firing just a few shots to sight in for the big hunt, it’s important to keep guns running reliably throughout the shooting event and to clean them up quickly when the day is done. |

Should law-abiding U.S. citizens be required to show a “good reason” to obtain a concealed carry permit or license, and should they also be willing to give up their Second Amendment rights in order to provide foster care or adopt a child? These are questions that may begin to haunt the courts, courtesy of the Second Amendment Foundation. While SAF has become something of a legal powerhouse in gun rights litigation over the past several years – it was a SAF case, McDonald v. City of Chicago that brought essential nullification of the Chicago handgun ban and incorporated the Second Amendment to the states in 2010 – one might not see them mentioned often in gun rights court case. |
