“During the protest, a white male entered the crowd and began documenting the protest. That individual was pushed from behind by a white protester, which led to a physical altercation between the individual and several other white males,” Tallahassee Police said. “During the altercation, the individual was knocked to the ground. He got back to his feet and brandished a gun. TPD officers quickly engaged, took the individual into custody, and peacefully dispersed the crowd. There were no reported injuries.

Submitter's note: Why did they arrest the victim and not the attackers?

A couple near St. Louis emerging from their mansion brandishing firearms as Black Lives Matter demonstrators marched by the house. Men roaming the streets with rifles during protests over racial inequality, punctuated by two people being killed in Wisconsin and another in Oregon over the weekend.

And because the Second Amendment does not protect concealed-carry, the plaintiffs argue open-carry must be protected and any law that burdens that right must be strictly scrutinized by courts.

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Kimberly Mueller found the men may have a point — but the point wasn’t enough to warrant a preliminary injunction of California’s open-carry permit scheme.

For months, Reese Monson, who helps organize security for the hundreds of protesters who gather in downtown Portland, Ore., every night, has advised them to use shields made of plywood, pool noodles and 55-gallon drums — tools to deflect the riot-control measures used by the police.

Now, Mr. Monson said they were considering a new kind of shield when they go out to demonstrate against racial injustice: bulletproof vests.

How unpopular is gun control in states with contested Senate races? Ask Everytown for Gun Safety, a firearm prohibition lobby backed by billionaire Michael Bloomberg. They’re spending big piles of Bloomberg’s cash running campaign ads to flip Senate seats in Iowa and North Carolina. But for a gun control advocacy group, their messaging is suspiciously silent on … well … gun control.

So much for having the courage of their convictions.

Yet Osterweil’s real ideological message—which NPR is uncritically promoting through its massive, taxpayer-backed platform—is the Marxist argument that property destruction is nonviolent because property rights are invalid. (Unfortunately, Osterweil is by no means the only left-wing voice making this argument.)

“In terms of potential crimes that people can commit against the state, it's basically nonviolent,” Osterweil offers in the interview. “It's just property. It's not actually hurting any people.”

Was Kyle Rittenhouse's possession of a gun protected by the Second Amendment?

Rittenhouse’s attorney, John Pierce of Pierce Bainbridge, plans to fight the underage weapons possession charge, arguing that at 17, his client could be part of the “well regulated Militia” mentioned in the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Put another way, Pierce will likely argue that Wisconsin’s ban on firearms possession by 17-year-olds is unconstitutional because a 17-year-old minor is on the same Second Amendment footing as an adult.

Therefore, the argument goes, the Wisconsin law unconstitutionally restricts Second Amendment-protected firearms possession. Pierce will likely add that the American colonies expected, and sometimes required, citizens under 18 to have and bear arms.

Political Elite Value Their Own Safety, NOT YOURS

The hypocrisy of the pampered political elite on the topic of personal safety is reaching breathtaking new levels. No longer content to merely deprive the citizenry of the means with which to defend themselves, politicians in some jurisdictions are depriving residents of police protection as well. All the while, these contemptible figures have shown a keen interest in making arrangements to secure their own safety.

Anti-gun political actors have always ignored the logical implications of their own policies. Hillary Clinton travels with a bevy of bodyguards, as did Democrat mega-donor and NRA opponent Harvey Weinstein.

A federal judge Monday affirmed a set of firearms regulations approved by Washington voters in 2018, ruling against a legal challenge raised by gun-right advocates.

Initiative 1639 raised the legal purchase age of a semi-automatic rifle to 21 and put in place enhanced background checks for their purchase. It also prohibited the sale of such rifles to out-of-state residents.

Voters passed the measure with nearly 60 percent support, but gun-rights advocates have vehemently opposed it. Some sheriffs have said they wouldn’t enforce the law because they believed it was unconstitutional.

On the eve of his visit to Wisconsin, President Donald Trump defended the 17-year-old who fatally shot two protesters in Wisconsin last week, embracing an attorney's account that Kyle Rittenhouse acted in self-defense.

Referring to cell phone video of the incident, Trump told reporters on Monday that Rittenhouse was "trying to get away from them, I guess, it looks like" and said that protesters "violently attacked him." Trump repeatedly noted the shooting remained under investigation but also appeared to lean into Rittenhouse's self-defense argument.

"I guess it looks like and he fell and then they very violently attacked him and it was something we're looking at right now and it's under investigation," Trump said at the briefing Monday evening.

"I guess he was in very big trouble. He probably would have been killed. But it's under investigation," Trump said.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Those, who have the command of the arms in a country are masters of the state, and have it in their power to make what revolutions they please. [Thus,] there is no end to observations on the difference between the measures likely to be pursued by a minister backed by a standing army, and those of a court awed by the fear of an armed people. — Aristotle, as quoted by John Trenchard and Water Moyle, An Argument Shewing, That a Standing Army Is Inconsistent with a Free Government, and Absolutely Destructive to the Constitution of the English Monarchy [London, 1697].
