A federal grand jury has indicted a Bristol Borough man on charges he sold guns in Philadelphia without a license and owned more than two dozen guns with serial numbers that had been removed.

The indictment is fallout from Operation Cease Fire, a push by the U.S. attorney's office, the Philadelphia district attorney's office, Philadelphia police and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to identify and prosecute people believed to be "illegal" gun suppliers.

And now he and 10 other Miami officers are under federal indictment for allegedly fabricating evidence and planting guns on suspects to justify shooting them.

In Colorado, a growing number of suspects never see a courtroom or a jail. Events of this summer have made it painfully clear that some Colorado cops shoot first and ask questions later; and possibly without consequences for the policemen responsible.

"The figures were very embarrassing to a lot of police departments" said James Fyfe, a professor of criminal justice at Temple University, and a former New York cop.

Clerk Killed After Giving Robber Cash

A convenience store clerk was shot and killed Thursday night after he complied with a robber's demands. The clerk opened the register and gave the robber an undisclosed amount of money. The robber then shot the clerk and fled the scene on foot.

"It's a brutal crime," said Salt Lake police Sgt. Fred Louis. "The clerk complied. He didn't show any resistance."

According to police, Gallaher told a despondent friend, "If your life is so bad, end it," and offered her his gun. The woman used the gun to shoot herself in the head.

In addition to manslaughter, Gallaher is also being charged with culpable negligence with a firearm.
