" 'Everything to them is black and white,' (Ed) Rendell said. 'To cast me as an extreme liberal on this, gosh -- I'm not for registration, I'm not for licensing, I'm not for making it more difficult for people to carry a handgun. I am for one handgun a month.' "

Why? Why support a proposal that has no hope of stopping crime, but instead places restrictions on law-abiding citizens' purchases?

...While well-meaning liberals - be they black or white - will deny it, "The Racist Roots of Gun Control" provided compelling evidence that racism underlies many gun-control laws.

While most gun grabbers would will deny it, much of the same emotional if not racist antagonism against arming minorities still exists in 21st-century America.

"A dozen farmers in Alberta are getting ready to go to jail after repeatedly refusing to pay fines imposed following a 1996 demonstration against the Canadian Wheat Board."

You have to show a government-issued photo ID to buy a box of .22 long rifle cartridges, and you have to tell the government about any and all guns you own. So you're surprised about selling wheat?

I think this farmer knows that he is not living in a free society.

It's part of the "Worker's Socialist Paradise" where the government tells the people what they can sell, who they can sell it to, and how much profit they can make.

"The delivery is deadpan, the horror of the scene described barely registers in the telling. 'My friends told me to pull the trigger, but I couldn't. I knew the guy. I would have, if I hadn't known him. But I said no, I'd rather not. So someone else did it.' That victim survived, many don't."

September 11 being called "Patriot Day"

THEIR TITLE: "Patriot Day ceremony planned for Sept. 11"

AN EXCERPT: "See more Patriot Day coverage inside on page A3."

REALITY CHECK: Patriot Day is April 19 -- as a result of the April 19, 1775 "shot heard 'round the world" that resulted when Redcoats attempted to disarm Patriots. To attempt to abuse the hallowed day by making it about victims is not only absurd, it's an insult to the many great American Patriots who brought our nation into being.

NOTE: This website, linked above, has a feedback mechanism. Every time you see someone calling September 11 "Patriot Day," you are invited to set them straight.

"The study concludes that there are strong similarities between children involved in drug wars in Rio's slums and child soldiers elsewhere in the world."

"The report details how the gangs employ teenagers to guard their domains."

"Sometimes they are even given ranks and called soldiers."

"The levels of violence are comparable to a war zone."

"In the last 14 years, for instance, almost 4,000 under-18-year-olds were killed by firearms in Rio alone."

"That compares, the report says, with just under 500 children killed in the fighting between Palestinians and Israelis in the same period."

"There are estimated to be between 5-6,000 armed children in Rio."

"Most of the killings take place in disputes over territory between drug gangs."

Today, only people who demand increased government protection, increased government handouts, and increased government bureaucracies are considered patriotic."

"The Sept. 11 attacks shattered the American sense of freedom, casting the very idea of freedom in a new light."

"They also raised the question of whether Americans should be willing to surrender some of their rights in exchange for security against terror."

"Some lawmakers and security experts say, yes, absolutely -- despite a drumbeat from privacy advocates who say it doesn't have to be that way."

"British police will set up armed checkpoints on the streets of London to crack down on drug-related gun crime, the Independent newspaper said on Saturday."

"Though occasionally used to protect perceived terrorist targets, such roadblocks are rarely used in the fight against street crime, which is currently soaring, fueled in part by the lucrative trade in hard drugs."

"The airline pilots' group that proposed arming commercial airline pilots with handguns wants Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta fired for his opposition to the plan."

" 'Secretary Mineta's opposition to arming pilots is not based in reason, but is based upon an emotional and visceral aversion to firearms in the hands of anyone but federal agents,' said Capt. Tracy Price, chairman of the Airline Pilots Security Alliance (APSA)."

"Where There Are Guns, There Are Suicides!"

"Well, that’s akin to saying, 'Where there is food, there are overweight Americans.' Food is by far the most popular means by which people achieve obesity, but the cause for overeating is something else entirely."

"Here’s a clue, Ms. McCook: find another cause célèbre – preferably one that hasn’t been beaten to death and discredited."

"First To Call For Armed Pilots, CCRKBA Hails Senate Passage Of Legislation"

"Having been first to call for the arming of commercial airline pilots just hours after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, DC, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) today hailed passage of legislation in the U.S. Senate that will allow guns in the cockpit."

KABA NOTE:

While we absolutely applaud the efforts of CCRKBA in rightly fighting the "armed pilots" fight -- they do lots of good work! -- it's curious that they'd say they were the first to call for armed pilots when numerous gunowner rights groups have supported arming pilots for years. Virtually every gunowner rights, conservative and liberty advocacy group in the nation deserves a pat on the back for standing, shoulder to shoulder, to arm pilots; they didn't all get the idea from CCRKBA. :-) Even anti-gun lieberal Barbara Boxer helped make it happen.

"Scandinavian airline pilots including those working for Nordic carrier SAS are opposed to carrying guns in the cockpit as an anti-terrorism measure, their representatives said on Friday."

"The statement by the Swedish and Danish pilots' associations was a reaction to the US Senate's overwhelming vote on Thursday giving airline pilots the right to carry firearms to do battle with would-be hijackers."

OH, BROTHER!

One terrorist looked at the other with a grin on his face and said, "You thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?"

"The rant of the week is brought to you by the tinhorn principal of a Georgia high school."

"He told an Atlanta Journal Marxist Constitution newswhore the following: it 'represents racial prejudice and divisiveness.' "

"The 'it' that this public school and university educated moron was referring to was of course the Confederate Battle Flag as included in artwork on various t-shirts sold by Dixie Outfitters."

"It is sensible that pilots who are entrusted to operate complex machinery at high speeds and altitudes with hundreds of lives at stake can be trusted to use a simple firearm responsibly. A majority of pilots are ex-military, and all will receive refresher training before they are issued weapons."

"Airport security remains alarmingly inadequate. Last March a federal test at 32 airports found that screeners missed 30 percent of guns, 60 percent of simulated explosives, and 70 percent of knives. Plus, despite increased hiring of armed sky marshals, there still are only 1,000 such officers to board the nearly 35,000 flights per day in the United States."

"Armed pilots would be an additional -- and stronger -- deterrent against hijackers, who would have to conclude that their odds of succeeding would drop dramatically at the cockpit door."

"Across the country, individual victims of gun violence and violence-ridden communities are using their legal rights to hold the gun industry accountable in the courts for irresponsible business practices that contribute to gun violence. But the gun lobby is trying to escape that accountability. H.R. 2037 and S. 2268, the deceptively-named 'Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act,'..."

"No issue resonates among rural voters more than gun ownership rights, and Edwards has one of the most pro-gun stances among the Democrats most actively vying for their party's nomination to challenge President Bush in 2004."

"While most Democrats have pushed for new, tougher gun control laws, Edwards supports the gun laws now in place. Otherwise, he has said, he supports protecting people's right to bear arms."

"But for every traveler who feels safer, there is a critic who charges that airport changes are more show than substance. Neither the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) nor the airlines are doing their jobs in the wake of the nation's most horrific aviation-related disaster, critics say."

"In a statement issued last week, the Association of Flight Attendants AFL-CIO blamed airlines for 'inadequate security training [that] has left flight attendants unprotected and unable to defend themselves.' "
