Original Associated Press Title: "Unarmed man charged with shooting"

Highlights: Now-Convicted burglar enters home with his buddy, who is carrying a gun. Home owner defends himself, kills armed burglar, and the surviving burglar goes to jail for his buddy's death. Talk about Criminal Justice! (Then he pretends he broke into the house to dial 911? Please!)

WASHINGTON -- "When Jamie Wing drove up to an Arlington gas station Thursday and shouted, 'Call 911! I have a hawk stuck to my arm,' customers thought she was kidding."

"But it was no joke. The red-tailed hawk had bit Wing's lip, then dug its talons into her right arm and wouldn't let go."

"The bird had crashed into Wing's pickup on I-5 Thursday morning. She had pulled over to free the hawk's wing from her side mirror when it flew into the pickup and attacked her."

"Despite the pain, Wing, who owns two cats, two dogs and four horses, did not want the hawk killed."

" 'There was a point where it got so painful that I was going to reach down and break its neck myself, but I love animals and I realized the bird was in shock and pain,' Wing said. 'It wasn't the bird's fault.' "

"The hawk was taken to the wildlife center, but both of its wings were broken and the fractures could not be repaired, said Kestrel SkyHawk, who cares for all birds of prey at the center. The bird had to be euthanized, he said."

Zimbabwe: Shots fired as farm raided

"GUNFIRE was exchanged as about 70 pro-government militants raided a white-owned farm and barricaded the farm family inside their home in northern Zimbabwe, a farm lobby said."

"No injuries have been reported, but the family remained barricaded inside the farmhouse as police refused to intervene, said Jenni Williams, spokeswoman for Justice for Agriculture (JAG)."

KABA NOTE:

Sounds a lot like the FBI "raid" at Ruby Ridge and the FBI/BATF mass murder at Waco. The two main differences: 1) those two constitution-violating assaults on American citizens weren't about race; and 2) the police were very involved in both of them.

"EXPLOSIVES residue has been found in the luggage of an Islamic religious leader arrested at an Oregon airport during the weekend."

"Sheik Mohammed Abdirahman Kariye, 41, was on his way to the United Arab Emirates when he was arrested on Sunday at Portland International Airport by members of an anti-terrorism taskforce."

"US authorities yesterday told an Oregon court that TNT residue was found on two pieces of Kariye's luggage after he was originally detained for document fraud."

"Federal prosecutors alleged Kariye travelled throughout the Middle East in 1999 and 2000 – including Saudi Arabia and Qatar – despite not filing an income tax return for years."

"The Somali-born Islamic leader was charged with the unlawful use of a social security number and unlawful possession of a US government document."

"But prosecutors were able to convince the US District Court to order the further detention of Kariye, a US citizen, on the basis of the residue."

"A VICAR who was jailed after hiding a loaded gun at his home has been sacked by the Church of England."

"And in an exclusive interview with the Manchester Evening News, American-born Rev Michael Daggett has told of his regret at the embarrassment he has brought to his parishioners in Swinton."

KABA NOTE:

The Reverend is being far too kind. The embarrassment belongs on the head of the Church. Any "Christian" who'd support such a move is unfit to wear the title. Related reading: Christians & Guns

"This week, the state's highest court will hear two cases that test the liability limits for gun owners based on gun storage and child safety issues."

In one case: "He was disobeying a family rule, but no adults were at home. They fired a few rounds, then a cartridge jammed. While trying to dislodge it, the gun discharged and wounded the friend in the chest. The friend, 12, survived after a lengthy hospital stay."

In the other case: "Alex Duenas of Staten Island...was charged with child endangerment after his 11-year-old little brother, playing with Duenas' handgun, accidentally shot and killed a playmate."

In both cases: people want to blame the inanimate object.

New Movie Coming Out - "American Gun" - looks like an anti-gunner's wet dream

This is the site for a new movie coming out staring James Coburn. Some of the reviews and the synopsis lead me to believe that this might be an anti-firearm/anti-self defense theme movie.
-------
One Reviewer Says:
"A thoughtful, complexly structured film that gets the U.S. culture of violence in its sights and rarely lets it get away…"
In the website's synopsis of the movie, we find the following:
• "A haunting portrait of loss and redemption, American Gun is the story of a man searching for answers in the wake of his daughter's death."
• "In letters to his dead daughter, Martin reflects on a childhood fascination with his grandfather's gun."
• "He speaks to the previous owners of the gun, finding common themes of loss, fear, passion, betrayal and regret in their stories."
Then there's the screenwriter's own words about how he came up with the movie:
"I didn't want the film to be political; I was more interested in the human side of the story. I did, however, research both sides of the gun control issue. I also went to a shooting range in San Francisco where I was living at the time I started writing the script. It really gives you a rush. It was important for me to be able to understand the appeal. At the same time, looking down the range at the other people on the line, I also wondered…what if someone were having a really bad day today? I know how emotional people are, and if there is a gun there, obviously it's much worse than what happens when people throw things in a rage." ... and

"I later met several NRA members and went to a machine gun show in Kentucky. There were some lost souls there, to be sure..."

Dumber Than Corn: Common plant allowed greater access to self-defense than many Americans

"A variety of plants respond to attacks from herbivorous pests by synthesizing substances that deter their visitors from further feasting. Now scientists have discovered a new, fast-acting form of self-defense that some strains of corn use to defend against caterpillars attempting to feed on them. The findings, published online this week by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, could help researchers better protect corn crops from hungry invaders."

Corn, a mere plant, expresses its self-defense within its full capabilities.

But get caught in possession of a banned self-defense tool (handgun) in places like New York City or Washingtoon, D.C. without the hard-to-acquire government "permit," and you're going to go to jail.

Surprisingly, many citizens in those cities (and others like them) think this a good thing -- proving themselves to be dumber than corn.
