"Huan Yun Xiang, 37, wrote a note before the shootings pleading for the laws that allowed him to buy seven handguns not to be tightened, Melbourne Magistrates' Court was told."

"The note said: 'What I want to say is, please don't tighten gun control! I anticipate you certainly will tighten gun control and say I am mad.' "

"The New York City Council today prepares once again to mind other peoples' business."

"Specifically, the council's Committee on Public Safety will undertake to make New York City free of illegal guns."

"And wouldn't that be nice."

"If it was possible - which, of course, it isn't."

"The council, a reliable rubber stamp for Speaker Gifford Miller, is very good at passing innocuous resolutions that carry little weight, but urge either Albany or Congress to strengthen various state or federal laws."

"These measures are usually wrongheaded, though harmless."

"Not so the bill to be taken up today."

"It's meant to strip the manufacturers of a perfectly legal product - firearms - of liability protections enjoyed by virtually every other manufacturer in America."

"People should buy home alarms and handguns or take other steps to protect themselves because looming budget cuts will erode the state's ability to protect them from criminals, Attorney General Bill Pryor said Thursday."

This is good advice for anybody, anytime, anywhere. The cops exist to solve crimes, not prevent them. That's up to us. But too many have forgotten what the word CITIZEN means.

"Gun-rights supporters treated Maj. Jon Dolan like a returning war hero Thursday as the state senator cast a critical vote to override a veto of concealed-weapons legislation."

"But Democrats said Dolan, a Lake St. Louis Republican, had gotten special treatment in getting six days of leave from his post in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and that he had flouted military rules by acting as a politician while on active duty."

"They also said it was ironic Dolan would return on the second anniversary of Sept. 11, saying he should be at his post fighting terrorism."

-------
Rule #1 for the Democrats is no one wearing the uniform of the United States should be allowed to vote.

Rule #2 is giving illegals all the rights of citizens.

"Last week, Matthews found himself before a federal grand jury in Raleigh, N.C., testifying to his statements about the document — appraised at $30 million — which he bought for $200,000."

"On Thursday, a federal civil judge will hear arguments over whether the document’s March seizure by a North Carolina U.S. attorney was just that — a seizure — or a theft."

"At issue will be the very rights scrawled on the 216-year-old piece of parchment, and the question of whether a Confederate state that shunned a document in 1861 still owned it four years later."

"The copy in question is believed to be one of 13 drafted in 1787 for review and ratification by the young states, on orders from the president of the Continental Congress, George Washington."

"The gun-haters start with the basic premise that guns are bad. You shouldn't have them in your house because they're dangerous, they say. I should let you know right from the start that handguns are used for protection against criminals in America nearly 2 million times per year. That's up to five times more often than they're used to commit crimes and nearly 128 times the total number of murders in the United States. Those stats alone are good enough to blow any anti-gun argument out of the water, but there's more. According to the National Crime Victimization Surveys, people who use guns to defend themselves are less likely to be attacked or injured than people who use other methods of protection or don't defend themselves at all."

"Now be truthful, the thought of everyone and anyone owning whatever arm they can afford to own scares the majority of Americans. This is why there are reasonable limits in place today to the anguish of many on the right. Now these people may be correct when they assert that these limits should be abolished because they are contrary to the second amendment. I’m even almost inclined to agree."

"I believe there should be much stronger laws regulating the punishments for the abuse and misuse of arms. Guns, knives, iron pipes, nukes, crowbars, land mines, tanks, airplanes, automobiles, etc; whatever someone uses as their arm of choice. Although, maybe the founders were more traditional than that, and only meant the arms in use by the military, in which case guns, knives, iron pipes, nukes, crowbars, landmines, tanks, automobiles, etc."

"Because the fundamental nature of motor vehicles allows those who feel threatened to simply drive away, the argument that motorists need loaded concealed weapons is weak."

"You argument is false and misleading. A majority of carjackings and crime against people in motor vehicles happens in urban environments, where there is traffic that impedes the ability to drive away." ...

"I build bulletproof cars for a living. I supply them to government officials, corporations for protection of their executives, and to citizens concerned about security. I can tell you with absolute 100% confidence that you are wrong about being able to drive away. My entire industry, which is quite large, with revenues far more than OHP's budget, exists because you cannot drive away from a bullet. I have lots of examples of bullet-holed cars. I am sure you can figure this out too. In fact, the largest company in this industry is located in Fairfield, Ohio."

"After this gun's trail of ownership was revealed by the Chicago police, Daley, Cline and McGrath became remarkably silent. They can't complain about the gun coming in illegally, because it has always been in Chicago. As for the "easy access" and "only cops should have handguns" laments, this case suggests that it's apparently easier to get undocumented guns if cops own them, and nobody seems eager to explore that subject." ...

"Tapia's crime was not the gun's fault, nor is it reason to scrap the firearm civil rights of every other American citizen. But the same social philosophy that has disarmed law-abiding Chicagoans for decades--and would jail them for having unregistered handguns--has also left the court system broken, so that predators like Tapia roam free to create more havoc that people like Daley, Cline and McGrath exploit until facts stop them cold."

Hahn, asked the senators to vote 'no' on Senate Bill 659, the so-called 'Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act,' which would shield the firearm manufactures from product liability except in cases where they willingly flout state or federal law in marketing their products."

Is it any surprise that the mayors of some of the most violent cities in the country, which coincidentally are also ones with some of the toughest gun control laws nationwide, would seek to further disarm and victimize their "subjects"?

"Missourians at least age 23 may apply to their county sheriff for a permit to carry concealed guns. They must be a U.S. citizen and either live in the state for six months or be stationed here in the Armed Forces. Applicants must undergo state and federal criminal background checks and pay $100 for a three-year permit, with a renewal cost of $50."

"Permits are denied to anyone who had been charged or convicted of a felony; convicted of a violent misdemeanor or twice convicted of driving while intoxicated in the previous five years; dishonorably discharged from the military; mentally incompetent; or believed by the sheriff to be 'a danger to himself or others.' "Headlining a gathering Thursday in New York of hundreds of people who question official accounts of the Sept. 11 tragedies, McKinney said a new anti-terrorism law giving the government access to Americans' private lives reminded her of the illegal measures federal authorities took in the 1960s to discredit leaders of the civil rights movement."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

New Interpol international crime statistics revealed, rather surprisingly, that Sweden, our laid-back, neutral, furniture-loving neighbour, where slapping a child is a criminal offence, tops the European crime league in murder, serious assaults and robberies, and even surpasses the USA in violent crime. The murder rate in Sweden is three times as high as Denmark, four times as high as Norway, and twice as high as in the USA. In addition, Sweden has twice as many sex crimes and robberies as this country and 25 times as many violent assaults. A Swedish National Crime Agency criminologist dismissed the Interpol figures as 'exaggerated.' 'They claim that there were 900 murders here in 2001, but that also included suicides which have somehow ended up in the murder column. To say we have a higher murder rate than the USA is ridiculous,' he said.

Details several stories of armed self-defense and asserts a near-blackout in the media on these types of reports.

-------
"In 2001 (the last year available), ABC, CBS and NBC ran 190,000 words’ worth of gun-crime stories on their morning and evening national news broadcasts. But they ran not a single story mentioning a private citizen using a gun to stop a crime. The only network I could find that ran any defensive gun-use stories was the Fox News Channel."

"The print media were almost as lopsided: The New York Times ran 50,745 words on gun crimes, but only one short (163-word) story on a retired police officer who used his gun to stop a robbery. For USA Today, the tally was 5,660 words on gun crimes versus zero on defensive uses."
