Thanks, Beto.
“Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47,” he said, on television, on the Democratic Party debate stage, for all to hear and see. “We’re not going to allow them to be used against fellow Americans anymore.”
And with that, all the Democrats who’ve tried for years to deny the gun confiscation motives behind their gun control pushes went — nooooooo.
It doesn’t get any clearer than that, does it?
“Hell yes,” we’re going to take your guns. |

Campus police at Washington State University are killing a popular safe gun storage program because of restrictions imposed by recently implemented firearm laws.
I-1639 established safe storage requirements in Washington state when it went into effect in 2019, as well as imposing tougher background check measures.
The way the law is written, WSU police say they’d have to conduct a background check every time a student checked out their gun, which would take several days. They’d also have to do a “mental health check” and send letters to mental health facilities to make sure the student is allowed to have a firearm.
That forced campus police to ax the program, due to the strain long wait times would impose on the system. |

Detroit police are investigating a shooting that injured at least one person on the city's east side Wednesday morning.
It happened in the 19300 block of Algonac, which is near Seven Mile & Outer Drive, at a home where the victim is a medical marijuana caregiver.
Police say two suspects were allowed into the home to purchase marijuana, but then one of them tried to rob the homeowner and fired several shots at him.
The homeowner was hit, and his wife saw what was happening and shot back at the suspects.
The suspects were able to escape from the home and it's not known right now if either of them were hurt.
The husband, who we're told is 61 years old, was taken to the hospital and is in temporary serious condition right now. |

One wishes the media would stop using absurdly lazy phrases like "mandatory gun buybacks." Unless the politician they're talking about is in the business of selling firearms, it's impossible for him to "buy back" anything. No government official -- not Joe Biden, not Beto O'Rourke, not any of the candidates who now support "buyback" programs -- has ever sold firearms.
What Democrats propose can be more accurately described as "the first American gun confiscation effort since Lexington and Concord," or some variation on that theme. Although tax dollars will be meted out in an effort to incentivize volunteers, the policy is to confiscate AR-15s, the vast majority of which have been legally purchased by Americans... |

Feeling that their constitutional rights are under attack, hundreds of gun rights advocates from around the state openly displayed firearms at the state capitol on Tuesday, while attending the 2019 Second Amendment March. This year’s speakers focused on the issues of right to open carry and red flag laws.
Carrying an AR-15 on the steps of the capitol, state Rep. Beau LaFave of Iron Mountain addressed the crowd by asking, “If you have to ask the government for permission, is that a right’?”
Michigan is one of thirty-one states that allows people to open carry a handgun or long gun without a permit. |

On Sept. 1, HB466 went into effect. The bill was an amendment to an existing statute, which will now allow the legal carry of clubs, knuckles and defense-keychains. Because of the amendment to the law, students may bring their self-defense items to Texas public campuses.
Since Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) is a private campus they have the option to continue the ban or not (opt-in or opt-out). When Texas changed the laws regarding firearms on campus, OLLU decided to opt-out. Now, OLLU decided to continue with that precedent and not change the list of prohibited items on campus. |

Perhaps the simplest approach is to conduct a survey asking people whether they’ve used a gun defensively within some preceding time period. Most famously, a survey conducted in 1993 by Gary Kleck and Marc Gertz estimated that more than 1 percent of American adults had used a gun defensively in the past year. This implied something on the order of 2.2 to 2.5 million defensive gun uses annually. Several other surveys conducted around the same time suggest roughly the same thing (including one effort by the Centers for Disease Control that went unpublicized until Kleck stumbled upon the data in 2018, two decades after the questions had been asked). |

The McDonald Court declared that the Second Amendment is not a “second-class right,” to be “singled out for special — and specially unfavorable — treatment.” In 2019, however, Heller is in a precarious situation: There have been numerous victories for gun rights, but many lower courts have in practice nullified the Second Amendment. Later this year, the Supreme Court may hear a case involving egregious Second Amendment infringements by the New York City government. The Court should take the opportunity not only to strike New York’s abuses, but also to firmly remind lower courts that the Second Amendment is a first-class civil right. |
