And if you are out of state, remember, there are other states looking to impose similar state (and federal) legislation, so feel free to call in and post your opinions too. "As you may well know, the City of Brotherly Homicide, also known as Philadelphia, is having some problems. Murders are on the rise, and their own version of Project Exile is not doing anything to stem the flow of blood. Efforts to implement yet MORE gun control have failed - otherwise, we'd probably see the murder rate rise to the level of 'gun free' Washington, DC."
"So what's a city to do?"
"Philadelphia police and black community leaders called on Wednesday for 10,000 men to volunteer to patrol the streets of America's most dangerous big city in a bid to halt a surge in murders and violent crime." ... "If you're imagining a posse of armed, law-abiding citizens patrolling the streets and protecting the innocent from armed thugs, you're sadly mistaken." ... |

"Is DC Mayor Adrian Fenty really this stupid? It's amazing to me that someone with the intellect of half-wilted lettuce can walk and breathe simultaneously, let alone run a large city like Washington, DC."
"Does the following passage not make it patently clear that the DC gun ban is worthless?"
"The 30-year-old law in question makes it illegal to posses a handgun inside the city but allows citizens to own shotguns or rifles. Most of the shootings in the city are committed with handguns." Apparently, what is patently clear to the rest of us gets lost in the muddy waters of Fenty's fetid, swamp-like intellect." ... |

"In the above-linked, spacy, somewhat drooling diatribe, Dreyer describes a recent incident in which burglars had apparently broken into his home. Seems shouting at them in a loud, authoritative voice scared the numbskulls away from his home."
"The robber jumped out the window and fled ..." ... "Yes, Dreyer was fortunate. He was fortunate that armed thugs didn't hold him at gunpoint while they raped his wife. He was fortunate they didn't force him to watch while they shot and killed his young nieces ..." ... |

"Is banning handguns a 'reasonable regulation'? The District of Columbia certainly hopes that the Supreme Court thinks so."
"D.C. filed a brief last week asking the U.S. Supreme Court to let it keep its 1976 handgun ban, but how the city argued its case was what was most surprising. Instead of spending a lot of time arguing over what the constitution means, the city largely made a public policy argument. D.C. argues that whatever one thinks about the Second Amendment guaranteeing people a right to own guns, banning handguns should be allowed for public safety reasons."
