The Charleston man who was shot at an Elkview video lottery parlor he allegedly attempted to rob at gunpoint was arrested after being released from a local hospital.

Lt. Bryan Stover said Chad Wehrle, 29, of Charleston was released from Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital on Saturday after receiving treatment for gunshot wounds received in an alleged attempted armed robbery.

Witnesses at Teresa's Cafe on North Pinch Road in Elkview said Wehrle came into the building at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday carrying a 12-gauge shotgun. The patrons in the cafe, which serves as a video gambling parlor, fell to the floor to protect themselves.

A Centralia man being held in connection with a weekend stabbing in Wamac has been released from custody without being charged pending further investigation. Marion County State's Attorney Matt Wilzbach says witness statements indicate the man was acting in self defense, but he wants police to talk to the stabbing victim before a final decision is made on charges.

Wilzbach has been told 36-year-old Christopher Walker of Patoka remains in the intensive care unit of St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia on a respirator, but his condition is stable. However, Walker's condition is not good enough to allow him to talk to police. He is being treated for multiple stab wounds.

So, you’re settling back into the swing of things on campus. You’ve dropped your jaw at the textbook prices, picked out your seat in the classroom for the semester, and maybe already knocked out an early quiz from an overzealous professor.

If you’ve paid attention, someone on your campus has probably already become a victim of a crime.

The bustling hive of activity on campus is great, but it’s also scary business…the “gun-free zones” are back in session; an open invitation for a psychotic killer or rapist.

Of course, no one thinks your school will be targeted. But then, that’s what they thought about Virginia Tech, NIU or University of Alabama (Huntsville) too.

A Lubbock courtroom could be the location of a major change in national gun laws.

James A. D’Cruz, 18, has asked a federal judge to declare unconstitutional the ban on handgun sales by federally licensed dealers to 18-20-year-olds.

The suit against the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and explosives was filed just days after D’Cruz visited Sharp Shooters, Inc. and asked if he was legally able to buy a handgun. The employee told him he couldn’t.

According to the suit, D’Cruz is a well-trained, lawful owner of both long guns and handguns and is a decorated competitive Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps marksman.

NRA Jokes About Shooting Government Officials

When National Rifle Association (NRA) President Charlton Heston hoisted a rifle above his head at the organization’s 2000 convention and shouted the words “from my cold dead hands,” there was no joke about it. He was conveying a serious threat by expressing the organization’s belief that the Second Amendment provides individuals with the right to take violent action against our government—“one bullet at a time”—when they deem it has become “tyrannical.” Since the conservative wing of the Supreme Court gave legal backing to this dangerous “Insurrectionist Idea” in 2008, there have been a significant number of violent acts by those who fear and hate our government.

Chatham Borough Police confiscated toy guns from two boys Thursday after getting 911 calls reporting two males walking on River Road dressed in dark clothes with partially covered faces and carrying what appeared to be machine guns.

Around 1 p.m., Police Chief Philip Crosson and other police officers found the boys, ages 12 and 13, in front of the Five K Deli, police said.

The boys said they were playing with Airsoft pellet guns -- realistic-looking weapons that generally have orange tips -- and walked to the deli. The guns were taken from the boys pending contact with parents.

JON KARL: Okay, but you know the wrap on you from conservatives that are supporting your opponent are that you are not a true republican. You’re not a true conservative. You’ve got a “F” rating from the NRA. You have one of the most liberal voting record of any republican in the US House. How do you respond to that?

CONGRESSMAN CASTLE: First of all, that liberal voting record according to my judgment is an independent voting record if people look at it carefully. With respect to like an NRA, I am a defending of the second amendment but I believe there are certain safety measures that we need to pay attention to, which the NRA doesn’t like and so we get into that.

Former presidential candidate John McCain supports former Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. in the Republican primary, the Associated Press is reporting.

The endorsement is extra notable because McCain's would-be vice president, Sarah Palin, backs Ehrlich challenger Brian Murphy, who has drawn the support of tea partiers for his more conservative positions.

Ehrlich is "a fine guy," McCain told the AP's Brian Witte in an interview today after a meeting of the U.S. Naval Academy's Board of Visitors.

AK: Joe Miller's view from Denali

Miller put Denali on the list because he wanted his suggestion that Alaska recover more control of federal lands to catch the attention of folks, firstly in Alaska, but everywhere else, too. Because -- it shouldn't come as a surprise -- what he's talking about will apply everywhere else, too. So sure -- he wanted Denali to guarantee notice.

The reason we now have guns in parks is that there was never anything about the establishment of national parks that suspended the Second Amendment. It was simply a mistake to outlaw guns. It was categorically unconstitutional from day one. Time and circumstances have caught up with this misstep.

There's more where that came from ... and Joe Miller knows it.

Christine O'Donnell has picked up key endorsements from the National Rifle Association and conservative Republican Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina in Delaware's Republican U.S. Senate primary.

The NRA said Friday that it can depend on O'Donnell to defend the right to bear arms. The group is asking Delaware gun owners to vote for O'Donnell in Tuesday's primary.

O'Donnell is challenging longtime Republican U.S. Rep. Michael Castle, who has received a grade of "F' from the NRA for his views on gun–related legislation.

Forty-two current and former New Jersey mayors have joined Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group of 500 led by Michael Bloomberg of New York that opposes a bill that would gut the already weakened Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Known as the “ATF Reform and Firearms Modernization Act,” the measure should be called the ATF Neutering Act, because it would limit significantly the agency’s ability to keep illegal guns off the streets. Hearings are expected to start in the Senate this month.

Of the nation’s 100,000 licensed gun dealers, approximately 10 percent are audited by the ATF each year. The only bullet in the ATF’s chamber allows the agency (which cannot levy fines) to revoke a dealer’s license.

An Arizona City man will not be charged after shooting two intruders in his home on Sunday.

Pinal County Sheriff's Deputies say 58-year old John Miller was babysitting his two grandchildren, both under the age of two, at his son's residence in the 9800 block of West Century Drive, Arizona City. Shortly after 1 a.m. he was awakened by a noise inside the home.

Miller went to investigate and was confronted by two unknown individuals inside the garage. The individuals got into the garage by forcing open a side door. There was a confrontation between Miller and the two suspects. Miller told deputies he feared for his safety and shot both intruders.

Along with hours, entrée prices, beer selections and smoking policies, diners and drinkers might want to know another key piece of information before choosing a restaurant or bar: Will anyone be packing?

A new website will try to answer that question, letting diners know which Nashville establishments allow guns inside and which ones prohibit them.

The site, www.gunfreediningtennessee.org, made its debut Friday in response to a new state law that allows gun carry permit holders to bear arms in any establishment that serves alcohol unless the owner explicitly bans guns. Permit holders aren't allowed to drink while carrying.

“We are trying to balance what it means to have a right to bear arms with carrying and using an illegal gun on the streets,” Lang said. “In that case, the gun, really, is a terrorist weapon.

“Guns are the scourge.”

“We are not going after the law-abiding citizen with a firearm,” Flanagan added. “We are going after gangbangers and drug dealers.”

In a Monday statement, Giannoulias spokeswoman Kathleen Strand said Kirk supported a U.S. Supreme Court decision that overturned Chicago's handgun ban — a ruling she said has made it even easier for gangs to get guns.

"Congressman Kirk's exaggerations and embellishments continue today with his latest claim that he, a 20-year Washington insider and incumbent Congressman, has a strong law enforcement background," she said.

Kirk's campaign said only that he supports the Second Amendment right to bear arms as well as "sensible measure to reduce gun violence."

Is it legal or illegal to carry a firearm into a bar or restaurant in Arizona that has a liquor license? Yes and no -- sometimes.

Flagstaff police officials say confusion still exists about new gun laws that went into effect last year. ...

The answer is twofold:

-- If you have a concealed carry weapons permit, you may legally enter with a firearm into a bar or restaurant that has a liquor license -- unless the bar or restaurant has a properly posted sign that prohibits it.

-- If you carry a concealed weapon without a permit (as allowed by the new law), you are not allowed to carry a firearm into bars or restaurants that sell liquor -- even if there is no sign prohibiting it.

There comes a time in a man’s life when he must decide whether or not to take his girlfriend fishing. He must also decide if the risk of getting out-fished by his significant other is worth the embarrassment. Perhaps he has no idea that his petite girlfriend really has an inner fishing talent waiting to be released, or maybe the fish decide to take one for the team and bite her lure just to prove a point — who knows.

If the connection is strong between the two of you and you trust her, a friendly shooting match may be in order.

Sounds fun right? Just the two of you — love, guns and the great outdoors.

...it is lots of fun, but only if you can take the embarrassment of being out-shot, because I guarantee it will happen.

What we should be debating is how to control the MISUSE of guns… how to control the PEOPLE who have them.

While the vast majority of gun owners are responsible, law-abiding folk, there are others (we’ll call them the “Bad Guys”) who need to be prompted in the proper use of firearms. By “prompted”, I mean discouraged from misusing their weapons… and by “discouraged”, I mean stronger deterrents, harsher penalties!

Gun bans and costly registries (long-gun) can only be effective, if ALL of us play by the rules. The “Bad Guys”, being “Bad Guys”, won’t! They WILL have their guns!

"A woman bashed to death inside her house called police over a smashed back door but no patrol was dispatched, Commissioner Mal Hyde has admitted."

"Mr Hyde confirmed Pirjo Kemppainen telephoned the police assistance line on 131444 at 12.35am to report a glass pane of her back door had been smashed by a stone."

"It should have been passed on and for some reason it wasn't on this occasion," Mr Hyde said."

Submitter's note: I wonder if the "just call 911" gun control nuts agree that 16 hours is too long to wait for the police to respond.

"Unfortunately for law-abiding”' subjects of the Crown, an observable truth was articulated in a press release by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms: '[The] mass shooting in northwest England is more proof that restrictive gun laws do not prevent horrible criminal acts.'”

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws. — AYN RAND
