The 1911 just refuses to die. It’s been at it for well over a century now and remains in production at all levels. Personally, I just don’t get it. Why is such an outdated design so loved? It doesn’t do anything better than a modern pistol, yet it holds half the ammo. I can’t say I understand 1911s, but I do see the appeal of the modern double-stack 1911. Double-stack M1911s at least offer you an excellent trigger and great reset, but twice the ammo. |

Police say a Washington County, Indiana, woman will not face charges for killing a man because that man was holding a gun to her husband's head.
It happened in Salem, Ind., on Aug. 7.
Indiana State Police said the woman shot Michael Chastain in self-defense.
Chastain previously dated the woman's daughter.
Police say Chastain drove through their garden and into a basketball goal at their home, before jumping out and pulling a gun on the woman's husband. |

A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday blocked a California law banning gun marketing that is attractive to minors, saying it was unlikely to reduce gun violence or the unlawful use of firearms.
A panel of the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said hunting and sport shooting groups were likely to prevail on claims that the law violates their free-speech rights under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and blocked it pending the outcome of the case. |

Law-abiding New Mexicans can once again carry guns for self-defense after a federal judge ruled Democratic Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham can’t enforce her emergency ban.
District Judge David H. Urias, a Joe Biden appointee, issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) in court today. The order, which hasn’t been published yet, enjoins the state from enforcing its total suspension of concealed and open carry in New Mexico’s largest city and county. The TRO goes into effect immediately and extends through October 3rd. |

Hours after California lawmakers voted to limit the areas where firearms could be carried in public, gun advocates filed suit in federal court saying the proposed law would endanger gun owners, harm businesses and violate the constitutional right to bear arms.
SB2 by Sen. Anthony Portantino, D-La Cañada Flintridge (Los Angeles County), won final legislative approval in the state Senate on Tuesday and will not take effect until January once it is signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, a sponsor of the measure. But later in the day, lawyers for the National Rifle Association’s California affiliate, other firearms organizations and a number of legal gun owners asked a federal judge in Santa Ana to prohibit the state from enforcing the measure. |

A potentially perilous situation was defused with guns on Friday night when a teenage boy shot a man allegedly trying to forcefully enter his family home near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road, as per police reports.
The suspect, identified as Juan Saavedra, 35, was attempting to gain access to the residence by breaking a window and banging on the door. However, Saavedra’s intentions were interrupted when he was confronted by an adult woman, believed to be the teen’s mother, and the teenager himself. |

Last week, a Florida Man — the good kind — rode to the rescue of his 24-year-old sister as her ex-boyfriend was physically abusing her. The ex-boyfriend had broken down the sister’s door, stormed inside like the big bad wolf, and beat the hell out of her. Shortly afterwards, the brother showed up and confronted the ex.
Seeing the angry brother, Mr. Big Bad Wolf pulled out a gun and pointed it at the brother and cocked it. The brother then moved off the axis of the attack, drew his own gun and shot the ex twice. |

This incident raises an important question: What more can store owners do to safeguard their businesses and customers? The Second Amendment clearly grants American citizens the right to defend themselves and those around them.
Furnari was fortunate that this assailant wasn’t armed. Some shop owners are not so lucky in their encounters with their assailants. It’s only prudent and justifiable for store owners in similar situations to consider enhanced self-defense measures. |

The Yale Law School community convened on Tuesday evening to discuss upcoming Supreme Court case United States v. Rahimi, which could clarify the scope of the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms in the face of complicating factors.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) today joined Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) in demanding Attorney General Merrick Garland protect the Second Amendment rights of New Mexicans from the unconstitutional actions of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.
In a letter to Attorney General Garland, the senators urged the Department of Justice to respond swiftly to Governor Lujan Grisham’s unconstitutional Executive Order 2023-130, which violates the individual right to bear arms upheld in cases like District of Columbia v. Heller and New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen.
Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) also signed the letter. |

Several new gun control laws signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul are now in effect in New York State. As of Wednesday, background checks are now required for ammunition purchases. Dealers will now also submit background check requests to New York State Police, instead of submitting requests directly from the FBI.
To cover the cost of the New York State background check system, there is now a $9.00 fee on all firearm transactions, and a $2.50 fee for all ammunition sales. New York State Police say a list of people who are banned from purchasing firearms, are now also prohibited from purchasing ammunition: |

Assembly Bill 28, spearheaded by Democratic Assemblyman Jesse Gabriel, would impose an 11% excise tax on retailers and manufacturers for the sale of guns or ammunition within the state. The plaintiffs had also argued that the state isn't equipped to take over the responsibility of conducting online background checks on gun sales from the existing federal system.
"There's no eyes-on proof the system exists and is operational," the plaintiff's lawyers wrote. "There are no training sessions for dealers. And there's not even a printed user guide to the systems platform."
In response to Sotomayor's rejection, the plaintiffs on Tuesday filed another emergency appeal with a "supplemental brief" to Justice Clarence Thomas, who voted with the court's conservative majority in last year's 6-3 decision striking down New York's concealed carry law. A federal judge in North Dakota said Tuesday that he doubts the arguments of Wyoming and 24 other states against the ATF over its new rule restricting pistol braces.
Because of his doubt, U.S. District Court Judge Daniel Hovland declined to block the ATF from enforcing its new rule in those states.
The ruling contradicts another order from the federal Fifth Circuit Court in Louisiana, where a panel of judges ruled 2-1 to temporarily block the ATF’s restrictions on pistol braces in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. |
