Licking County prosecutors dismissed felony charges filed against a Newark man accused of stabbing another man outside Salvation Army because they say he defended himself.
Prosecutors in August charged Aubrey S. Kerr, 31, of Newark, with one count of felonious assault after police allege he stabbed the man Aug. 9 outside the Salvation Army, 19 N. Arch St.
Police said the man suffered a cut to his left arm that required 17 stitches but was otherwise unharmed. |

A particularly brutal attack at a party in a Waianae, Hawaii, neighborhood has at least one lawmaker in the Aloha State considering reintroducing a Stand-Your-Ground proposal when the state legislature reconvenes next year.
On August 31, party goers were enjoying themselves until a neighbor rammed his tractor into several vehicles at the house and then started shooting. According to local police, three women—Courtney Raymond-Arakaki, 34, Jessyca Amasiu, 29, and Cherell Keamo, 36—were killed by 59-year-old Hiram Silva before one of the home’s residents, Rishard Carnate, retrieved his gun and shot Silva, killing him on the spot. |

Then, a review of the mall's security footage showed Ignacio punching the man, who used a knife to defend himself.
"(Victim) told police that the altercation with Ignacio began with a verbal argument inside a store. When (victim) left the store, Ignacio followed him outside and then began punching him with enough force to knock him over. Ignacio continued hitting (victim) until (victim) pulled out a knife and swung it defensively in Ignacio's direction," the complaint stated. |

But KTVU got a whole lot more information, noting that the alleged shooter was a 72-year-old man who owned the Tesla, and “lives nearby.” That Tesla driver is the one who called the police, telling police that he himself shot the Forerunner driver. But he also reportedly said that the unidentified Forerunner driver got out of the SUV and punched him, and the shooting was in self-defense. |

For those concealed carry practitioners in the 21 states that don’t yet have a constitutional, or “permitless,” carry law on the books, help could be on the way at the federal level.
On Wednesday, Republican U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky introduced the National Constitutional Carry Act. HR 9534 would remove permitting requirements for Americans to carry firearms throughout the nation.
“Today, I introduce HR 9534, the National Constitutional Carry Act,” Massie posted on X, formerly Twitter. “No one should have to beg the government to exercise a constitutionally protected right anywhere in the country.” |

According to police, the conflict escalated when a 58-year-old neighbor, known for renting out his property for parties, began ramming cars into the carport using a front-end loader. This destruction quickly escalated when the man opened fire on the group. The terrifying scene ended with the deaths of three women attending the gathering.
A 42-year-old man, who lived at the home where the gathering took place, acted in defense of the group and used a handgun to fatally shoot the neighbor. The resident was subsequently arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, though he has since been released, with authorities still determining if criminal charges will be pursued. |

Republican Florida State Rep. Randy Fine announced his intention to sponsor a bill that would stop colleges from designating “gun free” areas. Fine’s announcement came shortly after Jewish students were assaulted at the University of Pittsburgh.
In an Aug. 31 post on X, Rep. Fine said: “It’s unfortunate that these students were not carrying in order to put the Nazi down. This is why I will be introducing legislation next session to end college campuses as gun-free zones. Your second amendment rights don’t end because woke queer studies ‘professors’ don’t like them. #FireAway.” |

If there’s one thing for certain, it’s that the anti-gun fake news site thetrace.org, which touts itself as an unbiased news source, is always going to come down on the wrong side of the ongoing debate over the Second Amendment.
But don’t take my word that it’s nothing more than an anti-gun shill website focused on propping up gun-ban proposals. Just look at a handful of the site’s latest headlines, all of which have a distinctly anti-freedom twist: “Red Flag Gun Laws Under Fire,” “Shot By A Civilian Wielding A Police Gun,” “Gunmaker Sig Sauer Found Liable in Shooting Accident,” and “How a SCOTUS Decision Led to an Unprecedented Gun Sales Boom.” |

Long before the United States Supreme Court ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Ass’n, Inc. v. Bruen (2022), a federal appellate court relied on the right to bear arms for self-defense to invalidate an Illinois law that generally prohibited the carrying of guns in public.
As justification, the court observed that “in Chicago, at least, most murders occur outside the home,” and that “a Chicagoan is a good deal more likely to be attacked on a sidewalk in a rough neighborhood than in his apartment on the 35th floor of the Park Tower.” |

Kamala Harris appealed to moderate voters Friday in the critical swing state of Pennsylvania, reiterating that she is a firearm owner who wants to preserve Americans' gun rights while maintaining "reasonable" gun safety laws.
The US vice president gave her first solo sit-down interview since she became the Democratic nominee to a local news station in Philadelphia, the largest city in Pennsylvania, where analysts believe her race for the White House against Republican Donald Trump could hinge. |

A review of the facts shows Trump's assertion that Harris wants to "confiscate everybody's gun" is totally false.
While Harris previously said she supported a mandatory buyback program for certain firearms, and has a plan for stricter gun control measures, she has never called for the widespread confiscation of guns.
Ed.: LOL. She wants to ban so-called "assault weapons". There are more AR rifles in America than there are registered pickup trucks, let alone other types of similar rifles. Seems like "widespread confiscation" to me. |

In a recent case out of Hawaii, a U.S. District Court has upheld a federal gun ban, denying a motion to dismiss the indictment of Christopher Chan, who was charged with unlawfully possessing a machine gun and a short-barreled rifle. Judge Derek Watson, appointed by President Obama, ruled that these types of firearms are not protected under the Second Amendment. While the court’s decision isn’t surprising, given the political landscape in Hawaii, it raises critical issues about how the Second Amendment is being interpreted today. |

In the race to become Washington State’s next governor, Democrat Attorney General Bob Ferguson declared during his first debate with Republican former Sheriff Dave Reichert that, “I believe in responsible limitations on the Second Amendment.”
The moment was captured by Seattle’s KING, which broadcast the hour-long debate.
Reichert, who served two terms as sheriff of King County—the state’s most populous jurisdiction which encompasses Seattle—countered that he prefers to “focus on gun crime.” That is, he would prefer to lock up criminals who misuse firearms than penalize law-abiding citizens, and his record speaks for itself. |

Kamala Harris, when she was a U.S. senator running for president in 2019, called for police officers to be removed from public schools to demilitarize campuses.
"What we need to do about … demilitarizing our schools and taking police officers out of schools," Harris said. "We need to deal with the reality and speak the truth about the inequities around school discipline. Where in particular, Black and brown boys are being expelled and or suspended as young as, I've seen, as young as in elementary school."

Attorney General Ken Paxton this week withdrew an eight-year-old legal opinion that gave private nonprofits the green light to ban guns on land they lease from a city — a move that comes as Paxton challenges the nonprofit State Fair of Texas’ ban on firearms.
Paxton, a Republican who ardently opposes gun restrictions, sued the city of Dallas and state fair officials last month, arguing the State Fair of Texas had violated state law that largely bars local governments from restricting firearms on land they own or lease. Fair Park, the site where the fair is held, is owned by the city of Dallas and leased to the nonprofit that runs the fair. The event is set to run from Sept. 27 through Oct. 20. |

The study found 2,526 of those who died were children and teenagers, an average of seven each day, and firearms accounted for 30% of all deaths among those ages 15 to 17. Overall, the gun death rate for children and teens has increased 106% since 2013. |
