"It is appropriate for a nation to fight a war in its own defense, especially when war has been openly declared upon it. But in doing so, we must resolutely resist the call to sacrifice that which makes the United States of America a country worth defending – our inalienable rights and our individual freedom." --Vox Day

Don't expect airline crews or passengers to cooperate with future hijackers.

"Each of us has probably decided that, no matter what, no one's going to get into our cockpits," said Ken Adams, an Atlanta MD-11 captain and air safety expert. "We've always been reluctant to resist hijackers because everyone's chances for survival improved if we cooperated. That's not the case anymore."

From a Canadian commentator:
"I can name you 5,000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake. Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around."

KABA NOTE: And more than once America aided other countries with our guns and saved the day. But we cannot forget that we WERE aided by the French in our Revolutionary War against Great Britian.

The terrorists who struck the heart of America's financial and political capitals this week thought they could take us out with a one-two punch, simultaneously bringing down our military leadership along with our financial system, the pulse of the world economy.

They were wrong.

Because it's not about the money.

"some politicians in Washington making statements that terrorist operations against America are over. How can they make such claims? International terrorists are still targeting the U.S. and the American people as never before.

The President acted prudently. He continues to do so, by understanding the new, larger attacks may occur. He also knows just how weak American intelligence agencies are after the Clinton-Gore administration." --Col. Stanislav Lunev

As President Bush vowed yesterday to "lead the world to victory over terrorism," lawmakers, activists and scholars debated how far the government should go in curbing civil liberties to avoid a repeat of this week's horrific attack on the United States.

The Senate ... approved legislation that would make it easier for the FBI to get warrants for electronic surveillance of computer transmissions.

And, in fact, approved the "Combating Terrorism Act of 2001," which enhances police wiretap powers and permits monitoring in more situations.
