... "'The idea is to buy time for teachers and students during a school shooting.' Most of the current strategies making a great deal of money around the nations essentially consist of 'run, lock classroom doors, hide, and hope someone comes in time to save you.' Buying time doesn’t stop a killer. At best it momentarily inconveniences him, and considering that the police can’t possibly arrive in time, will not save lives."
"With perhaps only a single exception, the police have not had a significant effect on the outcome of a single modern-era school shooting. In most cases, even Newtown they had none at all." ... |

"More than 600 gun rights activists have already pre-registered for the 29th annual Gun Rights Policy Conference, which is being held Sept. 26-28 2014 at the Chicago O’Hare airport Hyatt Regency."
"SAF Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb said this year’s GRPC will attract gun rights leaders and grassroots activists from across the country. It is being held in Chicago in recognition of repeated SAF court victories in Illinois, including the landmark Supreme Court 2010 ruling in McDonald v. City of Chicago, plus Ezell v. Chicago and Moore v. Madigan, the case that forced the Illinois Legislature to adopt a concealed carry statute, thus bringing the Prairie State in line with the rest of the nation." ... |

"Fresh on the heels of Washington CeaseFire’s Ralph Fascitelli twice using a discredited statistic about the number of gun transactions that occur without a background check in this country last Friday night, Saturday’s Reno Gazette-Journal – discussing an initiative effort in Nevada to expand background checks – also hammered down on the anti-gun myth."
"It came more than a year after the Washington Post fact checker did the same thing, as noted during Friday night’s taping of the KOMO Town Hall program dealing with Washington’s dueling initiatives, 591 and 594. ..." ... |

"An innovative 3D-printed hybrid revolver design is being worked on as tribute to 3D printing’s first martyr, Yoshito Imura. Imura was arrested for printing some plastic, blank-firing guns in Japan. The new design would fire from the bottom of the cylinder, as did the original blank-firing plastic gun. The new revolver has hybrid features, including a steel barrel liner and chamber sleeves . . ." ... |

"In the aftermath of a certain incident involving a 9-year-old and an Uzi, the usual gun control extremist suspects have been shopping around the idea that firearms and children are a bad combination. As we know from our own polling, over 50% of TTAG readers started shooting before the age of 11 years old. Huffington Post seems to think that’s a terrible idea, and so produced an equally terrible poll to promote their agenda. Why is it a terrible poll? Mainly because it breaks the one golden rule about how to conduct a survey in a statistically valid manner . . ." ... |

... "But Krauthammer has never really explained why he thinks that gun bans are necessary for domestic tranquillity. They have never reduced the homicide rate anywhere else. The homicide rate in England increased with more gun control, including homicides with guns. Nowhere have gun bans been shown to decrease homicide rates. The closest place is Australia, where a massive, intrusive, gun control scheme was pushed onto the public in a rush after a mass shooting in 1996. The legislation had been planned in advance, just waiting for the right event to implement it."
"The only problem is that even academics agree: the legislation had no effect on Australia’s homicide rate, which was already dropping before the ban." ... |

"I recently wrote about Mayor Sly James of Kansas City saying that Too much violence is committed by guns. I was skeptical that he had actually said that, because the mayor is a well-educated man and served on active duty as a Marine. Attributing violence to guns rather than those who use them is nonsensical. It transfers volition and responsibility to an inanimate object. But now that another mayor has said much the same thing, I begin to wonder . . ."

"I haven’t seen this episode of Have Gun Will Travel since, well, never. It’s a bit of an eye-opener. Larry Tate, I mean, Marshall Tom Kerry is a perfect stereotype of a bad cop: vain, overbearing, self-righteous, drunk with power and privilege, insensible to the individual rights protected by the United State Constitution. Spoiler alert! Tom gets it in the end. Well, the chest. Paladin restores the balance of power with a double dose of lead. Unfortunately, Paladin doesn’t make the dame the new Marshall. The preparations by Texas law enforcement agencies are in response to recently discovered plans by militia groups to attempt closing several international bridges.
