In the past week, both Grant and Rapides Parish have become what’s called a “sanctuary parish” for the second amendment, meaning the parish’s police juries have taken a stance to protect the right to bear arms.

Both of the local parishes decided to move forward with the designation in unanimous votes.

“We support the second amendment and we want our legislators and everyone in those lines and senators to also support our second amendment rights for our people up here,” said Don Arnold, the Grant Parish Police Jury President.

Americans across the country rely on two things to keep themselves and their families safe: law enforcement and/or their Second Amendment rights. When an emergency takes place, most people call 911 and know at least one law enforcement officer will be there to help them in their time of need.

What’s amazing – although not surprising – is “The Squad” wants to do away with emergency services for you and me. But that decision wouldn’t impact them. In fact, the five women have spent a large sum of money on local law enforcement officers for private security. That’s right. Our lives aren’t worth protecting but theirs are.

But the real kicker? They spent more than any other House members on private security.

In a case that shows the enduring corrupt power of the U.S. gun lobby, on Sept. 9 President Joe Biden was forced to withdraw his nomination of David Chipman as director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Chipman was well qualified for the job. He served 25 years as an ATF special agent, and received a prestigious award from the U.S. Department of Justice for his contribution to community partnerships around public safety. But all of the Republican senators — and a few Democratic ones from rural states — opposed him.

Carter then reportedly pointed the gun at one of the people at the home.

The sheriff's office said that person was reportedly able to back away from Carter with his hands up and retrieve a shotgun.

The shotgun was fired once and Carter was struck.

He faces multiple charges in the protest shootings, including two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and illegal firearm possession. Rittenhouse, who was 17 at the time, opened fire with an AR-style semiautomatic rifle on Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, of Kenosha, and Anthony Huber, 26, of Silver Lake, killing both. He also shot Gaige Grosskreutz, of West Allis, who survived.

Rittenhouse maintains that the three men — all white — attacked him and he fired in self-defense. His arrest quickly became a rallying cry for conservatives and gun rights advocates frustrated with protests over police shootings across the country; conservatives covered his $2 million bail with donations.

An NRA instructor described as "the Left’s worst nightmare" helped train thousands of minority women from Detroit on how to safely protect themselves with guns "to ensure they’re never victims."

"The left thinks the Second Amendment wasn’t made for people who look like us. They said the same thing during the Jim Crow era too," NRA instructor Rick Ector, who is black, said in a video published by the NRA on Thursday morning.

Nearly half of the millions of new gun owners since the start of 2019 are women, according to new data from the 2021 National Firearms Survey.

The survey, which polled more than 19,000 adults, found that an estimated 3.5 million women became the owner of a firearm for the very first time. Over the same period, approximately 4 million men did the same.

This trend comes over a time period in which Americans have been exercising their Second Amendment rights at rates that have never been seen before. Beginning in early 2020, the number of Americans purchasing firearms skyrocketed, and though the trend has somewhat slowed since the turn of the year, it is far from stopping, according to the most-recent data.

Attorney Guy Relford had only been at his law office in Carmel’s Arts & Design District for a few minutes the late morning of Sept. 15 when Carmel Police Dept. officers knocked on his door.

Assuming they were coming to warn him about yet another gas leak in the building, Relford – whose practice focuses on protecting Second Amendment rights – was shocked to hear officers instead say they had received a call from someone claiming to be in his office threatening to set off a bomb on-site.

“They went through the entire building,” Relford said. “(The CPD officers) were consummate professionals. They were fantastic.”

San Diego City Council passed an ordinance on Tuesday that bans the sale and possession of “ghost guns” in an attempt to combat the rising gun crime in San Diego.

Ghost guns are privately made firearms that lack serial numbers, making them hard to be traced by law enforcement agencies. Under federal law, it is legal for private individuals to make their own firearms, but a license is required for the manufacture of firearms that are for sale or distribution.

A gun-control group that helped turn Virginia blue two years ago plans to spend more than $1.8 million in a bid to shape the state's gubernatorial race and other down-ballot contests this fall, according to spending plans shared first with CNN.

Everytown for Gun Safety, backed by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, plans to pump roughly $1 million into its efforts to elect Democrat Terry McAuliffe, with another $500,000 going to support a dozen Democrats running for the House of Delegates.

An additional $300,000 will aid the campaigns of state lawmaker Hala Ayala, who is running for lieutenant governor, and Mark Herring, who is seeking a third term as attorney general.

Self-defense claims are nothing new to the homicide detectives at the Tulsa Police Department, but to have three in a row that appear to be legitimate is, at the least, "strange."

And to know the three killings were carried out in a mere 38 hours might just be something new — even to detectives who have spent more than a decade in the unit, Tulsa Police Lt. Brandon Watkins said.

"There's a lot of people who claim self-defense," Watkins said. "That's usually the first refuge that people go to when they come in, but we look at the evidence.

"On these three cases, the evidence was compelling."

David Frum is wrong: Guns save lives and sustain communities

The debate over guns in the United States could, until recently, be divided into two extreme camps: the liberal elites (invariably protected by armed guards) who call for ever-more restrictive control of firearms, the basic functionality of which they cannot even begin to explain, and the uber-conservative right, for whom guns are a way of life and are ofttimes life-sustaining.

David Frum is evidently of the first faction, writing in The Atlantic this month about how ‘Responsible Gun Ownership Is a Lie.’ Gun sales – especially among first-time gun buyers – surged between 2019 and 2020, and continue to smash records. This trend has Frum worried.

The Progressive power grab, aside from the particulars of imposing heavy-handed measures, is openly and clearly unconstitutional. It colludes with social media giants to limit the First Amendment rights of those it disagrees with and argues against the Second, Ninth and 10th amendments Those amendments that serve as the ultimate safeguard against the amassing of power in Washington. The Second Amendments allows citizens the right to self defense. The Ninth and 10th amendments are clear and unambiguous: those powers not specifically given to the federal government are reserved to the people and the states.

Assembly Bill 518 (or Senate Bill 516 in the Wisconsin State Senate) is important concealed carry reciprocity legislation. AB 518 removes burdensome red tape by simplifying the current system presently in place. The bill allows anyone who is authorized to concealed carry from another state to concealed carry a firearm in Wisconsin. Specifically, AB 518 removes the requirement that a valid concealed carry permit from another state be subject to approval at the discretion of the Attorney General of Wisconsin.

One such case hit the news involving an employee at a Rockford, Illinois, Subway restaurant. This time, Araceli Sotelo has not been fired for defending herself – technically. She’s been suspended until the video of her defending herself during an armed robbery is off the internet. As Second Amendment supporters proved in taking down the nomination of David Chipman, once something is on the internet, it’s there forever. So, for all intents and purpose, Sotelo has been fired for protecting herself, albeit the indefinite suspension leaves her in a state of limbo.

To that end, SB 19 prohibits businesses that engage in the practice of discriminating against members of the firearm and ammunition industries from contracting with governmental entities in the Lone Star State. It requires banks or other companies, including bond underwriters, seeking state or local contracts valued at $100,000 or more to certify that they are compliant with the law and have no such policies.

Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office has let it be known to law firms representing big banks that policies that reject potential firearms industry clients based on the types of lawful guns or accessories they manufacture or sell, or the legal customers they serve, are not in compliance with the new Texas law.

Many young black men are being arrested for firearms possession. These men are mostly from the most dangerous neighborhoods in the United States. Most of these men would rather take the chance of being arrested compared to the chance of being defenseless when attacked. Some of these cases are arrests when the firearm is being used in defense of self and others. We do not know the percentage.

It is almost midnight when you hear your roommates call out. Someone is trying to get into the house. They heard someone at the windows and at the back door. You get your gun. A few seconds later, a stranger kicks through the front door. He rushes in and you try to push him back outside. He fights you. You shoot your attacker until he stops.

You back up and call 911. You put your gun away. EMS tries to life-flight your attacker to the hospital, but bad weather keeps the aircraft on the ground. You and your roommates give a statement to the police. Your attacker is transported to the hospital where he dies.
