The Canik TTI Combat was one of my favorite new guns in 2024. It’s an excellent, reasonably priced pistol produced in collaboration between Taran Tactical Innovations (maker of John Wick handguns, if you’re not familiar with the name) and Canik. New for 2025 is the Canik TTI Combat Smoke, dressed in a sleek, two-tone smoke finish.

A University of Michigan professor mocked the assassination of Turning Point USA CEO Charlie Kirk as “prudent” and “rational.” Professor Lydia Fettig wrote a Facebook post that quoted 2023 comments from Kirk about the Second Amendment. Following Kirk’s assassination, many liberals have mocked his death by citing the conservative leader’s words.

The number of states that ban the open carry of firearms has again been reduced to five. Before 2022, it was four, but New Jersey criminalized open carry, even with a permit, in 2022. New Jersey permit requirements and processes for obtaining a permit are being challenged in the courts. Connecticut banned open carry in 2023, making six states that generally banned open carry. Open carry with a permit is allowed in some rural parts of California. The California ban is being challenged in the Ninth Circuit.
