Bob Glass, the founder of a gun-rights activist group and owner of Paladin Arms in Longmont, plans to run for the Libertarian nomination for governor in 2002.
Glass founded the Tyranny Response Team and has been a vocal opponent of gun-control proposals. He said in a statement that his decision to run was prompted in part by Gov. Bill Owens' backing of a voter-approved 2000 ballot initiative that required criminal background checks of all buyers at gun shows. |

"The terrorists who are attacking our way of life do not have armies, navies or air forces. They do not have capitals. They do not have high-value targets that the typical weapons of war can go in and attack."
"They're in apartments, and they're using laptops, and they're using cell phones and they are functioning in the shadows, not out in front."

Banning pocket knives, plastic utensils and pointy objects (ballpoint pens?), requiring 3-4 hour delays to clear security, will succeed only in bringing airlines AND the businesses that depend upon them to their knees, possibly triggering a depression. Just what the terrorists want.
What would stop the hijackings: - Batter-proof, bullet-proof cockpit doors - Give the pilots back their guns - $25 million reward for terrorist heads, including green card/citizenship/asylum, new identity

A state appeals court has overturned the murder and assault convictions of Brian Eggleston, who killed a sheriff's deputy during a 1995 drug raid on his home here.
Pierce County prosecutors say they will appeal Friday's finding to the state Supreme Court -- and try Eggleston again if they get no relief there.
Eggleston, sentenced to nearly 49 years in prison, contends he shot Sheriff's Deputy John Bananola in self-defense. |

66% of the people who responded to a Washington Post/ABC News Poll said they "would be willing to give up some of the liberties we have in this country in order for the government to crack down on terrorism."
But which freedoms would they relinquish? The freedom to speak their minds? To practice any religion they desire? To associate with whomever they choose? The freedom to sleep at night without fear of overzealous law officers kicking down their doors? |

The crime-deterrent effect of concealed handguns carried by ordinary citizens is clearly predictable. Nothing is more disquieting to the criminal than the recognition that a potential victim is likely to be carrying a concealed handgun, and might be very adept in using it. |

A member of a Mosque in Chino was arrested for carrying a concealed handgun. He chose to arm himself because mosque members were threatened by people angry about Tuesday's terrorist attacks. "All we were doing was exercising our right to defend ourselves," Ghaffar said.
Deputies confirmed that members of the mosque filed a police report about the incident. Chino Hills Sheriff's Station Sgt. T.A. Peters said that Ghaffar "shouldn't take the law into his own hands," and "Let us do our jobs." |

"The suicide attacks on the nation’s landmarks have already prompted some sacrifices of personal liberties. So far, most Americans are accepting them in the interest of the common welfare."
"Some question whether such constraints will truly provide safety: Ban guns, and terrorists turn to knives. Ban knives, and they’ll use sharpened belt buckles or learn martial arts." |
