"According to the statement, Starbucks no longer welcomes guns in its stores."
"The coffee chain giant has been extremely neutral on the subject recently. Previously the policy was to allow open and concealed carry where allowed by law."

"It started with a CNN Money article last Thursday, titled 'New rifle mimics machine gun's rapid fire -- and it's legal.' The means by which the rifle ostensibly 'mimics machine gun's rapid fire' is not new--'bump firing,' whereby the recoil from each shot allows the trigger to reset, thus permitting rapid firing of a semi-automatic firearm--has been around for years. Somewhat newer are stocks like the Bumpski and DefendAR-15, from Fostech Outdoors, and the Slide Fire Solutions stock used in the new rifle, which mechanize the process of bump firing, making it easier and more controllable." ... |

"... This fact is at the heart of the debate over whether or not private citizens have the right to own firearms: All governments eventually become uneasy with the idea that armed citizens have the power to control their own destiny. It need not even be a majority of the populace; only a small fraction of the population of the American colonies actually took up arms against British rule. The question of gun ownership, however, goes beyond this and even beyond the Second Amendment; gun ownership is a civil right. In a society that has no way to completely eliminate the possibility of those who wish to do harm from obtaining firearms, it is also a moral duty." ... |

"Over at TTAG’s Facebook page, Todd Ellner gave me a ration of you-know-what for being closerthanthis with the NRA. Huh? TTAG’s criticized the gun rights group for not reaching out to African Americans, Hispanic, gays and women. We’ve slated them for being slower than continental drift when it comes to reacting to breaking news. And we’ve called the NRA out for waving the blue shirt (fears of U.N disarmament). Mr. Elmer also didn’t like the fact we’re against ALL 'reasonable restrictions' on firearms. Rather than debate on generalities, I asked him for examples of 'reasonable restrictions' Here’s his reply . . ." ... -------
Submitter's Note: The only restriction I can think of off the top of my head is that inmates in prisons and lockdown psych wards should not be allowed guns. |

"Hopefully, loyal TTAG readers can sympathize with me when I say that wedding season has ruined my shooting year. Seven weddings has meant that I’ve been to the range only a handful of times in 2013, and at one point, had every weekend for four months spoken for. So when RF and Nick shot me an email on Friday asking if I could cover an event on Saturday in nearby Lockhart, TX, I typed out, 'Sorry. Wedding season in effect. Can’t do anything.' Then I checked my calendar and realized that I was wrong – I actually had a weekend free to go shoot guns! Make the jump for gun porn and words . . ." ... |

"I like revolvers. From what I read, a lot of us old shooters like revolvers. In fact, there seems to be a revolver renaissance with Ruger introducing new models and the gun store shelves sold out of the popular models. I have been looking for certain models for a year with no luck and when I stopped by a local gun store that got a new shipment in that included every popular S&W J-frame model they make, I bought three on the spot."
"We may carry a semi auto but that is no reason to fill our gun safes with more than we will ever carry. What makes a revolver very suitable for the seasoned senior shooter is its simplicity, choice of calibers and slow shooting." ... |

... "But the fact that there is still so much we don't know about Alexis -- or the motive behind the shootings -- won't detour gun-control advocates from lumping his story in with that of [redacted], the man police say is responsible for the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, along with the victims from gang- and drug-related shootings."

"Since the Aurora massacre occurred in July of 2012, gun control is on the media’s agenda. When the shooting occurred at Sandy Hook elementary, gun control quickly became the most talked about issue. Soapboxes have and are emerging across Facebook, as every major news network is putting inatheir two cents regarding the matter. Many Americans believe reforming gun control policies is long overdue and that stricter laws are needed. However, many Americans also think that the government has no right to infringe on the Second Amendment any further than they already have. Somewhere in the middle of the two extremes lies the nebulous concept known as common sense." ... -------

"1. He passed the Federal NICS background check."
"2. He used Joe Biden's approved weapon of choice, a shotgun and did not use a rifle. The handguns he had were taken from guards he killed."
"3. If every gun control measure proposed in the last 20 years were in effect, he still will have been able to get the shotgun and do what he did."

"The liberal media is so obsessed with linking the Navy Yard shooter with the AR-15 rifle that it is making up false tales of Aaron Alexis trying to obtain one."
"The New York Times attempts to give the impression that a so-called assault-weapon law stopped Alexis from buying a rifle in Virginia, but that is not true." ...
"'Virginia law does not prohibit the sale of assault rifles to out-of-state citizens who have proper identification,' Dan Peterson, a Virginia firearms attorney, told me Tuesday night. "Washington, D.C. is buzzing in the wake of Monday's Naval Yard shooting with talk of a renewed push for a new gun control law that would require prospective firearm buyers to undergo expanded background checks. But it's unclear whether tighter restrictions would have made a difference, since Aaron Alexis, the shooter, passed federal- and state-level checks before he bought a 12-gauge shotgun on Sunday." ...

... "Above all, Monday’s shooting should give urgency to efforts to enact more rational gun laws. No, we don’t yet know, as the investigation proceeds, what might have slowed or stopped Mr. Alexis. And, no, no law or reform could prevent every mass killing. "That’s what today’s court ruling seems to indicate. If you’ll remember, the Illinois supreme court ruled last week that the right to keep and bear arms as enumerated in the bill of rights extends outside the home. A radical idea to be sure. What’s the practical effect of that? It’s this: 'A Cook County judge reversed herself Monday and dismissed weapons charges against a Chicago man after a recent Illinois Supreme Court ruling that called part of the state’s gun law unconstitutional.' The defendant, Deafalla Haddad, bought a .45 and began carrying it after he was attacked in his car. In Cook County. Illinois. When he was stopped for speeding in December . . ." ... |

"Liberals loves to teach the incorrect notion that the Second Amendment grants gun rights to members of a militia only. In other words, only government officials can have guns, according to liberals, and everyone else should be disarmed. That is the liberal utopia view on gun issues."
