"The Second Amendment Foundation today renewed its pledge to sue Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels if he pushes through a proposed rule that would ban legally-carried firearms in city Parks and Recreations Department facilities."

"The proposed rule change was announced Friday morning. SAF founder Alan Gottlieb quickly noted that this rule would violate Washington State's long-standing firearms preemption statute, first adopted more than 25 years ago. That law has become a model for similar state laws all over the country." ...

"Madame Speaker's gaffe of the week is in talking about the American people as extremist in their rhetoric and reminding America of how she saw the violence from the rhetoric of the seventies. ... Not only is the left in America the most vile in rhetoric, but in the seventies, of which Pelosi is speaking, it wasn’t conservatives or republicans in the riots, it was Hippies and the nihilistic teens of the era. It was the left who was bombing universities ..." ...

Gun sales up; crime down

"Anyone even remotely familiar with gun isses is aware that gun sales started picking up as soon as it became apparent that gun banner extraordinaire Barack Obama was likely to be elected. The spike became especially dramatic immediately after the election, and was sustained for months. As had to happen eventually, the huge surge in gun sales has levelled off, but a look at NICS background checks (a pretty reliable gauge of relative numbers of sales) shows that sales are still up ..."

"As we reported in our bi-monthly newsletter, The Knox Hard Corps Report, voting records, especially those for final passage, don't tell the full story of where our elected servants stand on a particular issue. And the fact is that those servants occasionally take pains to conceal their true position from the people who sent them to office."

"This year's poster boy for obfuscated voting is Senator Mark Pryor a second-term Democrat from Arkansas."

"In the July Senate vote for nationwide concealed-carry reciprocity, Pryor first voted against the measure but then, when Republicans Lugar of Indiana and Voinovich of Ohio cast their votes against their party line, he changed his vote to a nominally pro-gun vote." ...

"A federal appeals court heard arguments today in a Fourth Amendment case that has united civil libertarians and gun rights advocates against the District of Columbia government."

"At issue before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit was the question of whether a plaintiff could sue the city for wrongly targeting him with an arrest warrant, even though it was quickly withdrawn. The case was dismissed by a district court judge, who found that the man, Robert Ord, lacked standing." ...

... "Meanwhile, Mayors group losing members"

"Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) may not be the juggernaut it promised. Since its inception, more than 40 mayors have dropped out, including Vancouver, WA Mayor Royce Pollard. He sent a letter to MAIG, which he copied to some constituents, and I obtained a copy. This happens frequently when gun owners raise alarm about the group to their local mayors, who do their homework and come to a negative conclusion." ...

"My friend Dan Marcou, a retired SWAT cop and police supervisor from Wisconsin, has another police novel out. This one is titled 'Nobody's Heroes,' and it continues the adventures of a group of street cops in a small city in Dan's state. This time, they're up against a serial killer."

"If Dan's action scenes sound realistic, well…it’s because they're real. He hit upon the ingenious strategy of taking real-life gunfights and simply transposing them shot-for-shot to his fictional characters. In this case, cop's cop 'Dave Compton,' a beloved street-wise patrol sergeant, relives the shooting of a real-life beloved, street-wise patrol sergeant, Dan's and my mutual friend Marcus Young. ..." ...

"On the other hand it's exactly as dumb as it sounds. In terms our politicians can understand: it's likely that they have neither the people nor the facilities to keep this from becoming a total disaster. We can't even imagine how a 13-hour delay goes down if the passengers are strapped." ...

"I've been pleased at how many people on all sides of the gun violence prevention issue appear willing to find some common ground on some issues, while agreeing to disagree on others. In many ways, my experiences have been the exact opposite of the contentious 'town hall' protests we've seen on television over the summer."

"It has been averred that Congressional gun control deliberations often reflect support for gun rights because the 'gun lobby' buys more votes. Open Secrets is the internet resource run by the Center for Responsive Politics (CRP), an organization that claims it is 'the nation’s premier research group tracking money in U.S. politics and its effect on elections and public policy.' An article on Open Secrets explain this money-for-gun-votes thesis:"

"Lawyers and law firms have contributed over $1 Billion to federal election campaigns since 1990, placing it first in overall federal campaign contributions. In 2008, lawyers contributed over $233 million, with 76% ($178,706,835) going to Democrats."

"According to the American Bar Association, there were 1,180,386 active practicing attorneys in 2007. Extrapolating for 2008 population growth, the estimated number of attorneys at the end of 2008 was 1,191,236. This means that for the 2008 election cycle, lawyers and law firms contributed about $196.36 per attorney. (Compared to the $0.20 per politically active gun owner.)" ...

"An industry's percent of total contributions to each candidate's campaign fund were selected as a sorting criteria rather than total contributions by industry and candidate. For example, $1,000 in lawyer contributions to an incumbent candidate who collected a total of $10,000 is a larger percent of the total than $10,000 out of a total of $2.5 million (10% versus 4%).
