"When I read the first couple of paragraphs of North New Jersey’s The Record editorial Smart Gun Control, I thought to myself 'Holy smokes! They’re actually finally starting to get it!'""NEW JERSEY has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, but even they cannot prevent an unstable man from opening fire and killing people. The tragic shootings last month at the Pathmark in Old Bridge remind us of that. Not that we needed reminding, because we never had a chance to forget that gun violence can crop up anywhere, regardless of the severity of the laws." "Brilliant! They’ve finally figured out that gun control doesn’t work and are going to recommend repealing all those stupid mala prohibita gun laws that are supposed to prevent crime but don’t work, right? . . ."

"To hunt in the state of Texas, if you were born within the last 30 years, you need to have passed an approved hunter education class and carry the proof with you. Unless you pay $10 for a one year deferral, like I did last year. Unfortunately that deferral is a once in a lifetime thing so this past weekend, in preparation for the coming hunting season, I spent 10 hours of my life in a conference room at a Bass Pro Shop listening to two TPW instructors indoctrinate the newest wave of Lone Star hunters. And it turns out they were the biggest Fudds in the world and made no bones about it . . ." ... |

"When the forcible citizen disarmament lobby finds itself stymied in its efforts to pass more 'gun control' laws, they often try to console themselves with gun 'buy backs' (and what do they mean by 'buy back,' which implies that they're once again taking possession of guns that were once theirs?). While for the most part it would seem that such fuzzy, feel-good efforts are fairly harmless to gun rights (not to mention harmless to violent criminals' plans), and indeed represent a waste of the other side's funds that could otherwise finance more effective attacks on gun ownership, there could be more to such events than meets the eye." ... |

"In August, the Republican Party released what the Second Amendment Foundation calls 'the strongest ever' pro-Second Amendment platform by a major political party. SAF's assertion is difficult to dispute. The platform's treatment of gun rights begins by stating that the right to keep and bear arms pre-dates the Constitution, and thus exists independently of it. It also specifically condemns attempts to ban or otherwise restrict so-called 'assault weapons' and 'high capacity' magazines, and supports national concealed carry reciprocity. The platform even condemns 'Project Gunwalker.'" ... |

What’s worse, Jones had a shotgun, a rifle and several handguns in the home, along with approximately 8,000 rounds of ammunition, which were ignited by the blaze. Until now, I’d never really had the chance to shoot one of those .380 pocket pistols but I had heard many other’s opinions on them...whether I wanted to hear them or not. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a controversial round of sorts. There are just as many people saying that it’s perfectly fine for self defense as there are people saying it’s terrible. "Imagine a product that serves no purpose but to kill people and each year causes many deaths. Surely politicians would compete with each other to pass laws to control it. If nothing else, the manufacturer of such a product, which is foreseeably used to murder people, would be held liable. Not, though, if the product is an assault weapon. The federal law banning assault weapons expired in 2004, and another federal law precludes civil liability for gun manufacturers. It is time to re-enact the Federal Assault Weapons Ban and to repeal a federal law adopted in 2005 that protects gun manufacturers from civil liability." ... |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands? — Patrick Henry, 3 J. Elliot, Debates in the Several State Conventions 45, 2d ed. Philadelphia, 1836 |
