Another gunman targeted innocent victims in another mass public shooting this week, this time in Jacksonville, Florida. The resulting political outcry from gun control activists is as predictable as it is pointless.
They'll demand red flag laws, waiting periods, and a minimum purchase age for firearms.
Never mind that Florida has had these laws on the books for years—they'll demand them anyway. |

Today a Texas law goes into effect that prohibits financial institutions operating in the state from requiring a credit card merchant code to track the purchases of firearms and ammunition.
Rep. Matt Schaefer and Rep. Candy Noble introduced House Bill 2837 (HB2837) on Feb. 24. Titled the Second Amendment Financial Privacy Act, the law prohibits a financial institution operating in Texas from requiring or assigning a firearms code, which is defined as “any merchant category code approved by the International Organization for Standardization for a firearms retailer, including Merchant Category Code 5723.” |

The case is Fraiser, et al v. ATF, and the 4 plaintiffs in that case say that they tried to purchase a handgun, and a federal firearms dealer (FFL) denied the purchase based solely on their age. Plaintiffs were all over 18 years and under 21 years of age when they attempted to purchase the handguns. All were law-abiding citizens, had no criminal history and could otherwise purchase firearms.
Judge Payne ruled on the case in May of this year, denying the State's motion to dismiss the case, and granting plaintiffs' summary judgement. Here is our post explaining more of the details in that case. |

The recent heartbreaking incident at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in which a faculty member lost his life because of gun violence, should serve as a reminder of the pressing need for stricter gun-control measures in the United States.
This incident and many others highlight the vulnerability of our educational institutions and the urgent need to enact comprehensive gun laws. Schools, colleges and universities should be places of learning, growth and safety — places where students and faculty can thrive without fear of gun violence. |

A large percentage of “active shooter” incidents are thwarted by armed citizens who sometimes don’t even fire their weapons, but those cases are no longer counted under President Joe Biden’s pro-gun control policies.
According to just-released data from the Crime Prevention Research Center, 41% of active shooting incidents were stopped by armed civilians. |

Whew! It’s finally here! We first saw the Avidity Arms PD10 in January of 2017, and it was a functional and effectively finished product at that time. Rob Pincus, long-time defensive shooting instructor, designed and developed the PD10 based on experience and feedback from thousands of students and dozens of instructors.
Now that all of the manufacturing hurdles have been resolved, Rob’s PD10 is officially available and TTAG got our hands on one. |

Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) announced today that it has filed a new Second Amendment lawsuit challenging gun license delays of six months or more in Boston, Massachusetts. The complaint in White v. Cox can be viewed at FPCLaw.org.
...
“A right delayed is a right denied,” said Richard Thomson, FPC’s Vice President of Communications. “The Bruen decision specifically mentions lengthy gun license wait times as something that could violate the Constitution, and now we’re coming to Boston to restore its residents’ Second Amendment rights.”
FPC is joined in the litigation by Commonwealth Second Amendment and the Second Amendment Foundation. |

A May shooting death in Johnston was in self-defense, Polk County Attorney Kimberly Graham has determined, her office and Johnston police announced Friday.
Steven Miller, 62, was shot May 9 at an apartment complex in the 4700 block of N.W. 62nd Ave., and a second man was wounded, Johnston police said. Miller died at a hospital.
Witnesses told police the man who fired the shots, 27-year-old Dalton Meier, a neighbor of Miller, acted in self-defense, and an investigation confirmed their accounts, according to a joint news release Friday by police and Graham's office. |

For the second time in less than a month, a federal judge has upheld Connecticut's assault weapons ban by denying an injunction seeking a temporary halt to the enforcement of the ban as part of a lawsuit challenging the state's gun laws.
In a 14-page ruling issued earlier this week, U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton said the assault weapons banned by the state are not "commonly" used for self-defense, which would classify the firearms as protected under the Second Amendment. |

When the young paste-eaters at Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun propaganda factory, known as the Trace, team up with the stodgy window-lickers at the Gun Violence Archive to produce a story about the utility of the AR-15 platform as a modern self-defense tool, it’s hard not to get too excited.
It’s like watching two freight trains headed toward each other on the same track. You know the results are going to be cataclysmic. None of these halfwits have ever heard a shot fired, much less one fired in anger, or especially one fired to good effect. They know less about what makes a reliable home defense weapon than I do about man-buns, skinny jeans, or avocado toast. |

But it’s a good bet that more New Jersey women own guns than ever before. |

The Second Amendment speaks of two separate groups the Militia and the People. If the right to keep and bear arms was meant ONLY to apply to the militia it would read “The right of Militia members to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Or, it would read “The power of the States to maintain armed militias shall not be infringed.” It reads “The right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” It calls for a “Well-regulated Militia” and not a well regulated populace, and all other references to “The People” in the Bill of Rights are also rights of individual citizens.

FIRE spoke with Jaiden's mother, who said that contrary to the board's public statement, a district official—Mike Claudio, assistant superintendent of Harrison School District Two in Colorado Springs, Colorado—told her that her son would only be allowed to display the Gadsden flag patch as long as no one else complained about it.
Moreover, Rodriguez is still prohibited from displaying a secondary patch that references the Firearms Policy Coalition and expresses support for the Second Amendment. The justification for this restriction is the district's categorical ban on content having to do with alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and weapons. |

In a neighborhood where four people were shot, two fatally, this summer, a group of area residents will gather Saturday for a different kind of anti-violence rally.
Many members of the group will be openly carrying guns when they arrive at Unity Plaza in the North End as they take a step toward launching regular armed patrols. Their goal is to prevent further gun violence in a city that had 28 homicides this year — 16 since Memorial Day. |

Self-defense or "ego and anger and avarice" were the choices presented to jurors Friday in the second-degree murder trial of Eddie Dingle, who fatally shot Maurice Williams on the Uptown New Orleans parade route on Mardi Gras 2018.
His defense attorney argued that Dingle, 27, pulled a gun and fired to protect himself and his family, from a group that charged them in the 2400 block of St. Charles Avenue.
...
The jury reported at 6 p.m. it was split 7-5 on a verdict. Goode-Douglas reread her instructions to the group and sent them back to deliberate further. |

On Saturday, September 2nd, constitutional carry and statewide preemption laws will take effect in Nebraska. Thanks to the significant victories from this year’s legislative session, law-abiding citizens can exercise their Second Amendment right to carry firearms for self-defense without unnecessary government interference and can exercise their rights freely across the state without having to navigate a patchwork of local gun control ordinances.
The NRA is grateful to Senator Tom Brewer for championing this legislation and all the Nebraska state legislators who fought for these laws to pass. We also thank all of our members and other Second Amendment advocates whose vigilance made this victory possible. |

Gun rights activists have threatened to sue Los Gatos over its recent concealed carry ordinance, which prohibits guns in sensitive places like schools and places of worship.
Michel and Associates, law firm representing the California Rifle & Pistol Association and the Second Amendment Foundation, recently sent a letter to the town saying the concealed carry ordinance approved this summer infringes on the constitutional rights of gun owners.
“Specifically, the ordinance makes it so that firearms are prohibited to be carried – even by those with a permit – in town property, public transit and places of worship,” the letter reads. |

“Constitutional carry” is now the law of the land in Nebraska and many other states, but carrying a deadly weapon isn’t a decision to be taken lightly or made on a whim.
It’s also not a right that applies everywhere and in every situation.
Yes, there are reasons one might want to add a pistol to the list advocated by Adam Sandler — phone wallet and keys.
But there are plenty of other reasons not to. |

Crediting last year’s poorly-thought-out Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA), the U.S. Department of Justice on Thursday announced its highly anticipated new proposed rule that seems to leave enough up to ATF interpretation that just about any American selling a firearm could be considered a “gun dealer.”
In announcing the new rule, Steve Dettelbach, head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, blamed those Americans lawfully selling firearms in private sales—something that has been legal since before our nation was founded—for the necessity of yet another gross overreach by the Biden Administration. |
