When the topic of varmint hunting or controlling coyotes are brought up on shooting forums or gun store counters, it doesn’t take long for the debate over 223 vs 22-250 to come boiling to the surface. As two of the most popular centerfire rifle cartridges for dispatching furry nuisances at long range, you cannot go wrong with either for your next hunting rifle.

This weekend, the state of Mississippi lives up to its motto, “Virtute et Armis,” Latin for “By Valor and Arms” by declaring no tax on sales through Sunday on all purchases of firearms, ammunition, and some hunting supplies. Celebrating Labor Day weekend while encouraging law-abiding Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights while saving money in the process, puts a smile on my face and makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, even if I don’t live in Mississippi. |

We are pleased to post the latest of our occasional Q&A features with an elected official who supports hunting and the shooting sports. NSSF thanks U.S. Rep. Blake Moore (R-Utah) for speaking with us about his staunch support for the Second Amendment and the importance of the firearm and ammunition industry. Rep. Moore represents the First District in Utah and is serving in his second term in Congress. Rep. Moore serves on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, as well as the House Budget Committee. In addition, Rep. Moore currently serves in leadership as Vice Chairman of the House Republican Conference and is a member of the bipartisan Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus. We thank Rep. Moore for speaking with us. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
As an individual, I believe, very strongly, that handguns should be banned and that there should be stringent, effective control of other firearms. However, as a judge, I know full well that the question of whether handguns can be sold is a political one, not an issue of products liability law, and that this is a matter for the legislatures, not the courts. The unconventional theories advanced in this case (and others) are totally without merit, a misuse of products liability laws. — Judge Buchmeyer, Patterson v. Gesellschaft, 1206 F.Supp. 1206, 1216 (N.D. Tex. 1985) |
