"Businesses selling bumper stickers that read 'If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns' also should offer one with the rejoinder 'We told you so.'"

"In spite of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina -- and then by its citizens -- New Orleans still is the "Big Easy" because of its total and effortless vandalizing of the Second Amendment."

"Say what you will about the astounding ineptitude of Mayor C. Ray 'Not My Fault' Nagin and Police Superintendent P. Edwin 'Me Neither' Compass III who, when interviewed jointly, wear 'I'm with stupid' T-shirts with arrows pointing at each other. Who could have predicted that their gun grabbing would be almost lethally efficient?" ...

"'The anti-gun provisions in S. 397 would probably be stripped out in the House if all the gun groups were working together with GOA.' -- Rep. Ron Paul, Sept. 15, 2005"

"Thank you, Ron Paul, for your kind words. Sometimes it's a lonely battle fighting gun control. GOA was the only gun group fighting trigger locks in the Senate, and once again, is the only group fighting these gun restrictions in the House."

"The drums in the House are beating for gun control. There are two bills that would take baby steps toward protecting gun makers from the frivolous lawsuits that are plaguing the industry. The House bill (H.R. 800) would help protect gun makers WITHOUT imposing any new gun restrictions. ..." ...

"No. News of gun confiscation in New Orleans has reached every corner of the country. Contrary to the message in the accompanying newsletter (below), it is not a secret."

"The secret is what can be done about this violation of our right to keep and bear arms. But don't ask Gun Owners of America, because their answer is just as useless as the Second Amendment. Their answer is to pass additional legislation--legislation that forbids the violation of the Second Amendment and imposes a consequence consisting of the withholding of financial aid."

"The state Supreme Court declined Tuesday to hear a case on whether people must answer background questions to qualify for concealed-gun permits."

"In May, a three-judge Missouri Court of Appeals panel ruled that Paul Heidbrink - and any other applicant for a permit to carry a concealed weapon - has an obligation to answer the issuing sheriff department's questions about past crimes or military service."

"On the concealed-carry bill that keeps bobbing up every year in this state, the issue is that a firearm is not just an inanimate object. It is an object that becomes rapidly animate with the simple pull of a trigger. It is a volatile object because the emotions that activate it are the volatile elements of anger or fear." ...

"A responsible society knows that volatile objects such as guns and chemicals cannot be totally banned, but it also knows that their use must be limited due to a high level of risk. In the case of chemicals, they have usefulness. As for concealed carry, our relatively low crime rate in this state - and common sense - in no way demands a change in our current law."

"Buckeye Firearms Association is excited to announce its endorsement of House Bill 347. ... HB347 has overwhelming support as indicated by the bill's 47 sponsors."

"Perhaps the most momentous accomplishment is that HB 347 is a statewide preemption bill. It ensures that firearms laws are uniform throughout the state. 44 states currently have similar laws, and they have proven to be successful and are well accepted by police. This will eliminate problems for all gun owners who have been unduly burdened by local ordinances such as the Columbus’ so-called assault weapons ban or the unjust firearms confiscation and convictions in Toledo. This is crucial to anyone who owns a firearm in Ohio." ...

"That bell we heard ringing last week at Pigeon Forge High School did more than signal changing classes. It was an alarm that signaled changing times."

"Details are sketchy about why a student brought a 9 mm pistol to school, but parents and students alike were and are alarmed. One fact that can be pinned down is that a number of students knew about the gun early in the day. It's alarming that they didn't report it immediately to school authorities. Their unthinking silence unwittingly gave the gun-toter the opportunity to bring about disaster. Sometimes being a tattletale can save lives." ...

"The Bordelons, Donald said, were in no need of rescue. He said this from the roof, where he and his wife have been staying of late, because the interior flooded after the storm."

"But the deputies were adamant. They would not take "No, thank you kindly" for an answer. "What are the old sayings, 'You just can't argue with success' or, 'It ain't braggin if you can do it'? As much as I hate to give any ground up to the Lone Star State about anything, one undeniable truth is that Texas is still tops for producing white-tailed deer of both sexes. When a state touts deer population numbers that regularly exceed a head count of 5 million, then naturally it's a hunting location that is going to garner a lot of attention."

Argue as you will about some of the tactics used ... Non-resident hunters returning home from Texas deer hunts regularly report having seen more bucks in just a few days than several seasons altogether back home. That's just the reality of it." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all — security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again. — EDWARD GIBBON [On ancient Athens]
