"Newspapers, even those in the Pacific Northwest, must rely on a handful of principles in order to stay in business: Accuracy, credibility and reliability are near the top."
"And that brings us around to today’s editorial in the New York Times, which expresses some sentiments sure to earn it high marks with the 5,000 reported members of Washington CeaseFire, but not much traction with the more than 345,000 (as of 9/19) Washingtonians licensed to carry concealed handguns. (Do some math; which group is more relevant to the Northwest lifestyle, eh? It's a 69:1 disparity.)" ... |

... "Let’s start with a refresher course before we continue. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution states 'A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.'"
"The right to have arms, per above, came from a long established 'natural right' in English law stemming from the English Bill Of Rights from 1689. A “natural right” is one that exists through natural law or a right that you’re born with. The ability to protect yourself is a natural law and can be seen all over nature without any legal dissection necessary. But, let’s dissect a few words from above and look into their meanings." ... |

... "Vriniotis, Barber and Huston emphatically asserted their research, findings and actions are not about gun control or Second Amendment rights."
"'The goal isn’t to be anti-firearms, but to make them inaccessible,' Huston said."
"'There may be some people who are hard to convince about innovative ways of firearms safety,' Vriniotis added."
"But suicide profoundly affects families, friends and communities, and firearms should not be exempt from scrutiny, she said. 'A lot of people in the gun world know someone who committed suicide with a gun.'" ... -------
Submitter's Note: This article is a masterpiece of anti-gun propaganda. Even though it never explicitly states that firearm availability increases suicide rates, by the time the reader finishes the piece, they are left with the firm belief that "locking up the guns" will save lives. The only problem with that belief is that it is demonstrably false. Numerous studies have shown that while restricting guns may reduce the firearm suicide rate, the overall suicide rate remains effectively unchanged. |

CBS News has been revealing explosive new audio tapes detailing the extent of panic among the perpetrators of 'Project Gunwalker.' The tapes, recording phone conversations between participating gun dealer Andre Howard (owner of Lone Wolf Trading Company, in Phoenix), and [ATF] Special Agent Hope MacAllister, were made in March, shortly after the herculean efforts of National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea and Sipsey Street Irregular Mike Vanderboegh had finally brought the story to the mass media, with CBS having just begun to cover it."

"These differences would be obliterated by the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, which was taken up by a House panel last week. The act would force states that allow concealed-carry to permit out-of-town visitors to tote hidden handguns if they have obtained a license elsewhere — regardless of the issuing state’s standards. Advocates say that the law will allow law-abiding citizens to defend themselves wherever they are and to ensure that their right to travel — with gun handy — is not impeded by an obstinate state. This approach is bad policy and unnecessary law." ... |
