In America, however, unanswerable questions about the intent of the Second Amendment (aka “the right to keep and bear arms') continues to incite those who refuse to compromise over what it means, what it allows, and what – with frightening frequency – it may be fomenting.
After all the children slain in Parkland and Columbine and Newtown, after all the random carnage in El Paso and Odessa and Gilroy, how can doing nothing still be an option, even if we are unsure what that option should be?

The case arose from a New York City regulation that banned city residents with “premises” handgun licenses from taking their own legally-owned firearms outside Gotham for lawful purposes. The city defended the law all the way to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, insisting it was essential to public safety. But ever since the Supreme Court agreed to hear the appeal of that decision, city and state officials in New York have been running scared, desperately maneuvering to convince the justices to dismiss it. Now, it seems, their reckoning may be nigh, as the high court has scheduled the case for argument on Dec. 2. |

The homeowner, a man reported to be about 50 years old, called 911 immediately after the gunfight. Neighbors say he owns a semi-automatic rifle. From wsbtv.com:
The homeowner who shot the masked intruder is a man. Neighbors say he's a truck driver who owns a semi-automatic rifle and is highly protective of his mother.
I talked to a retired police officer. He said his first thought, on reading of the gunfight, was the homeowner had a shotgun or a semi-automatic rifle. He opined it was very likely the demise of these three young men prevented hundreds, if not thousands of future crimes. |

Live Free or Die. Some of us meant those words when we say them.
Americans may mouth the words, but when push comes to shove, too many either really don't care or they are cowards deep down, who will allow the status quo to carry on, no matter how sorry a state of affairs has grown around it; or, their own ignorance is so deep that the God Given nature of our individual rights is beyond their grasp and understanding, and those words in the mouths of the timid, the weak and unsure become mere noises like the squeaking of a mouse eking out an advertising catch-phrase. |

As President Donald Trump continues to weigh potential gun reform legislation, at a private fundraiser this week in Palo Alto, the president reassured high-dollar donors that he'll be a champion of the Second Amendment amid bids for a bipartisan compromise.
Trump, who said Thursday that gun control negotiations were moving "very slowly," behind closed doors days earlier reassured a room full of donors that those concerned about second amendment issues "voted for the right president." |

Schumer is spinning that Beto is alone in his confiscatory designs because he intuitively understands that the mainstreaming of this perception of the Democratic Party writ large could be a very serious political problem. Better to minimize this push as the desperation of a flailing former Congressman than a growing movement within the party. |

When you serve two masters — the National Rifle Association and President Trump — as Senate Republicans do, you lose points on virtue, integrity, empathy and honesty. But these servants, while taking money from the NRA, will continue to deny that their actions on gun control have anything to do with their masters. It is, they will say again and again, just about the Second Amendment. |

A Fallbrook gun shop is a plaintiff in a federal lawsuit challenging California’s gun law banning the sale of firearms to those under 21. The lawsuit recently filed in San Diego argues that adults over age 18 who are not convicted felons or mentally ill should have access to the full scope of the Second Amendment.
Thomas Furrh of Vista and Matthew Jones of Santee, both under 21, are listed as plaintiffs, along with four gun advocate groups and three retail gun shops in San Diego County.
The four gun advocate groups include the Calguns Foundation, Firearms Policy Coalition, Firearms Policy Foundation and Second Amendment Foundation. |

As a semi-automatic firearm, the AR-15 only fires once per pull of the trigger when the safety is off. It may look like a M4 carbine (or an M16 rifle), it may have some of the same accessories as a M4 carbine of M16 rifle, it may use the same magazine as a M4 carbine or M16 rifle, but none of those change how it operates. This is something that far too many Americans do not understand, and much of it was deliberate lying, as encouraged by Josh Sugarmann three decades ago. |

The first person to speak was Adam Skaggs, chief counsel and policy director of the gun-control group Giffords Law Center. Next up was Tina Meins, a member of the gun-control group Everytown Survivor Network. Third was Dr. Suzanna Hupp, a former member of the Texas House of Representatives who became a leading advocate for the individual’s right to carry a self-defense firearm after surviving the Luby’s shooting in 1991. Finally, Dr. John Lott, president of the pro-freedom Crime Prevention Research Center, got his five minutes. |
