... "First, on the subject of no such thing as an illegal gun and how such gun data is useless, let me mention to non-gun owners that the Second Amendment was written for only one thing: to block anyone in this country from applying any seemingly reasonable due process [as you’re observing in this trafficking issue] to unwind the right to own and bear weapons, short of a constitutional amendment. We’re not talking about trafficking per se, we’re talking about further harassment as I’ll show. The founders knew only too well how due process could be abused to the detriment of the people, little by little, seemingly helpfully, and how it could be likely in any age, then and now. ..." ...

An off-duty New York City police officer's gun went off in his Rye Brook home, wounding him in the hand, Rye Brook police said today.

The shooting has been deemed accidental by Rye Brook police, Lt. Gene Matthews said.

The 30-year-old man was cleaning his service revolver at 3:45 p.m. yesterday at his Highview Avenue home when it discharged, police said. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. Village police did not know if he was admitted.

New York City police would not confirm the incident because it happened outside the city. The NYPD did say an internal investigation into such an incident would be routine procedure.

Rye Brook police said no one else was in the home when the gun went off.

"Among the more notable is one new law that eliminates a two-hour class that once was required for renewing a concealed-weapon permit. The permit still must be renewed every five years."

"'It's good to get training, and I encourage it for everyone who has a firearm,' said Alan Korwin, the Scottsdale author of The Arizona Gun Owner's Guide. 'But to require you to take a government test to exercise your rights is contrary to the American way and just fundamentally wrong.'"

"If there was a definitive statement on the Canadian psyche as it relates to the gun issue, it came from the prime minister in the aftermath of the Montreal shooting last week."

"Prime Minister Stephen Harper mused: 'How could such an individual get such an arsenal of weapons?' It’s a rhetorical question, asked by many Canadians who do not understand guns or existing gun laws. What they mean is why."
