"When coming home late on a Saturday night, it is not unusual to hear the occasional loud bang."
"This sound could just as easily be produced by a dropped two-by-four or a blown transformer, but the first thought is usually, 'Did someone get shot?'"
"This reaction is evoked because society has an undercurrent of anxiety about gun crime – anxiety partially influenced by statistics and stereotypes of the Brady Campaign ... the largest and most prevalent gun control organization in the U.S. Its findings are regularly cited on many major media establishments."
"As the saying goes, 'The devil is in the details,' and while I wouldn't go as far as saying the Brady Campaign is the devil, I would call its use of statistics misleading." ... |

"Apparently, things are going so well in the Middle East that the State Department now feels it can turn its attention to banning the lawful possession of firearms by American citizens."
"In a little-noticed decision in March, the Obama administration reversed an earlier decision and moved to block the importation of 857,470 lawful M1 semi-automatics which were being sold by South Korea in an effort to raise money for its military. According to Hillary Clinton's State Department, this action was taken because the M1's 'could potentially be exploited... for illicit purposes.'"

"The alternative is to get a historic item that doesn't actually fire. While that might seem like half the fun is missing, think of half the fun you get for having a fantastic display item – one that is generally legal to own and still looks quite impressive."

"The NRA is wrong again –as wrong as it was in 2009 when its President Wayne LaPierre suggested that our founding fathers believed that so-called 'Second Amendment remedies' were the way to ensure democracy." ... -------
KABA Note: Where could those NRA nut-jobs have gotten the idea that the founders felt that arms would ensure liberty?
"The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." -- (Thomas Jefferson)
"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence ... From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to insure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable . . . the very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that is good" (George Washington)
"What country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms." (Thomas Jefferson to James Madison, Dec. 20, 1787, in Papers of Jefferson, ed. Boyd et al.)
"The right of the people to keep and bear arms has been recognized by the General Government; but the best security of that right after all is, the military spirit, that taste for martial exercises, which has always distinguished the free citizens of these States....Such men form the best barrier to the liberties of America" - (Gazette of the United States, October 14, 1789.)
"What, Sir, is the use of a militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing army, the bane of liberty.... Whenever Governments mean to invade the rights and liberties of the people, they always attempt to destroy the militia, in order to raise an army upon their ruins." (Rep. Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts, spoken during floor debate over the Second Amendment [ I Annals of Congress at 750 {August 17, 1789}])
"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States" (Noah Webster in `An Examination into the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution', 1787, a pamphlet aimed at swaying Pennsylvania toward ratification, in Paul Ford, ed., Pamphlets on the Constitution of the United States, at 56(New York, 1888))
"...but if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude, that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people, while there is a large body of citizens, little if at all inferior to them in discipline and use of arms, who stand ready to defend their rights..." (Alexander Hamilton speaking of standing armies in Federalist 29.)
"As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the article in their right to keep and bear their private arms." (Tench Coxe in `Remarks on the First Part of the Amendments to the Federal Constitution' under the Pseudonym `A Pennsylvanian' in the Philadelphia Federal Gazette, June 18, 1789 at 2 col. 1) |

... "A jury convicted Defendant Richard Charles Morsette of assault for attacking two people in his home, which is located on Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation in Montana. At trial, Defendant claimed that he acted in self-defense. The district court gave a standard jury instruction on self-defense but declined to give Defendant's additional requested instruction: 'In the home, the need for self-defense and property defense is most acute.' The sole question on appeal is whether the Supreme Court's recent decisions in District of Columbia v. Heller, 128 S. Ct. 2783 (2008), and McDonald v. City of Chicago, 130 S. Ct. 3020 (2010), required the court to give the requested additional instruction.[ 1 ] We answer that question 'no.'" ... |

"In light of the double murder in a prominent California city where two 16-year-old thugs with baseball bat and knife bludgeoned an elderly couple to death after first robbing them in the hopes of acquiring more money for their frequent marijuana usage, I wonder if this tragedy may have been avoided had the victims used a gun to protect themselves. Many crime victims also are victims to our society's undying trust that if we are law-abiding, others around us will be also, and those who are not will be dealt with swiftly by law enforcement. Such is naive, impossible and a great American myth." ...

"With all of the important issues and challenges facing our nation right now supporting politicians based solely on their position on individual rights might seem myopic, but luckily there is a broader issue which every Second Amendment supporter can strongly stand behind. That issue is Liberty. There are clear choices on the ballot this year. On one side are those who see the Constitution as an obstacle to their objectives and something to be side-stepped, slipped past, or redefined. On the other side are those who respect and revere the Constitution and the full Bill Of Rights. This election could easily be seen as a referendum on the Constitution itself. ..." ... |
