It wasn’t supposed to be this way. When Great Britain banned the sale and ownership of handguns in 1997, few expected it to be a panacea against such horrors as the Dunblane massacre, a madman’s handgun rampage that killed 16 children and gave political impetus to the anti-gun movement. But nobody expected the surge of violent crime that followed.
Believe it or not, Britain’s rates of assault, robbery, and burglary now exceed those in the United States... |

"You and I have never met and I am tolerably certain that if we ever did meet, we would not be warm friends. Frankly, I think that the term George W. used when describing New York Times reporter Adam Clymer suits you rather well. To be fair, you probably wouldn't be too crazy about me, either..." ===== Speaks for me, too. |

By Clayton E. Cramer, author of Concealed Weapon Laws of the Early Republic
Professor Bellesiles has provided a novel work in his Arming America. It is novel in both senses: much of it is certainly "new," and much of it is highly imaginative fiction. |

This is long from our "friends" at VPC. Very interesting read which actually supports a lot of what we are saying. BUT, of course the end/conclusion using their typical "data/studies" is, as usual, wrong.

Well worth the read. A lot of it can be used to defend NOT licensing and registering.

"Judges across the country have split on whether to hear big-city lawsuits aiming to make gun manufacturers pay for the costs of gun violence."
"Are these cities overreaching, clogging an already overcrowded judicial system with unnecessary lawsuits that try to blame legitimate merchants for the misdeeds of criminals? Or should the gun industry be held responsible for violence in much the same way the tobacco industry's been penalized for cancer and other smoking-related illnesses?" |

"Stanley Howse, better known as rapper Flesh-N-Bone of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, has drawn an 11-year prison sentence for allegedly threatening a friend with an AK-47 assault rifle in December of 1999." ===== I'm not sure what kind of "friend" threatens someone with an AK-47, but this guy, like many "rappers," is a violent criminal, and it's nice to see him going to the farm. Now let's see how tough he is... |

"The mother was attacked in the driveway of her home as she unloaded her car with her husband Joe, a wealthy businessman, after a shopping trip in Knightsbridge, central London." ===== Sad, sad thing. Criminals in the UK know that 999 times out of 1,000 their victims are unarmed, easily assailable little serfs.
"The robbery follows a series of strikes on Rolex wearers including former mayor of London candidate Steven Norris, the actress Britt Ekland and the celebrity chef Anton Mosimann." |

"This summer, Citibank announced that it would close all the accounts of customers who owned firearms-related businesses. Citibank quickly relented under a boycott threat from the Second Amendment Foundation."
"Citibank's short-lived policy of political correctness, while mean-spirited, did not threaten anyone's safety, other than the safety of profits for Citibank shareholders. Other businesses, however, have taken far more dangerous steps in order to be politically correct." |

"In a new book, "Gun Violence: The Real Costs", to be released next month, economists Philip J. Cook of Duke University and Jens Ludwig of Georgetown University have upgraded the health costs of gun violence from the previously erroneous figure of $20 billion to $100 billion."
"To reach this astonishing figure, the authors used a novel approach..." |

Fasioned after "Project Exile" Baltimore adds a new twist for law abiding gun owners.
"You would think that if someone knew of an illegal gun they would automatically want to report it," Averella told APBnews.com. "But we find that maybe offering a monetary reward will encourage them to do so more quickly."
Offering cash to turn in people with guns will end up involing more law abiding gun owners than criminals. Way to go Baltimore, my condolences to your peaceful citizens that own guns. |
