With early hunting seasons just getting underway, shooting ranges around the state have been preparing for hunters who need a place to sight in their rifles or practice firearm or archery shooting.
As part of its ongoing efforts to provide safe, accessible, user-friendly shooting facilities, the DNR recently has made improvements at several of its ranges. The federal Wildlife Restoration Program (Pittman-Robertson Act) — funded by hunters and sport shooters who buy firearms, ammunition, archery equipment and hunting licenses — helps make such shooting range improvements possible.

Buried in the text of an article in the current issue of Discover Magazine dealing with so-called “gun violence” is an interesting remark from one of the leading names in gun-related research that seems to let the air out of an argument anti-gunners have been using for several years.
While gun prohibitionists have contended that federal legislation passed more than 20 years ago has stopped gun research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Garen Wintemute, head of the Violence Prevention Research Program at the University of California, indicates that’s not exactly accurate. |

Fifty-three people were reportedly killed by mass shootings in America in August while 40,000 were killed by obesity during that same month. The UK Sun reported the mass shooting deaths vs. obesity deaths, showing the media is fixated on gun violence reporting although other causes are death are exponentially higher. |

The case arose from a New York City regulation that banned city residents with “premises” handgun licenses from taking their own legally-owned firearms outside Gotham for lawful purposes. The city defended the law all the way to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, insisting it was essential to public safety. But ever since the Supreme Court agreed to hear the appeal of that decision, city and state officials in New York have been running scared, desperately maneuvering to convince the justices to dismiss it.

Live Free or Die. Some of us meant those words when we say them. Americans may mouth the words, but when push comes to shove, too many either really don't care or they are cowards deep down, who will allow the status quo to carry on, no matter how sorry a state of affairs has grown around it; or, their own ignorance is so deep that the God Given nature of our individual rights is beyond their grasp and understanding, and those words in the mouths of the timid, the weak and unsure become mere noises like the squeaking of a mouse eking out an advertising catch-phrase. |

Bonner County and Sheriff Daryl Wheeler are suing the city over its policy of allowing the Festival at Sandpoint to prohibit firearms at the annual waterfront concert series. Counsel for the county filed a complaint for injunctive relief in 1st District Court, which seeks a judicial declaration that the city’s policy of regulating lawful possession of firearms is beyond its authority. It also seeks an order forever preventing the city from enforcing the firearms ban, according to the 18-page complaint filed on Wednesday. |

To a cynic, Justin Trudeau’s Friday announcement on gun control might seem like an attempt to change the channel on his embarrassing blackface/brownface problem. The timing of the announcement suggests just that. But it has long been clear that the Liberals would use gun control as a Big Progressive Issue to polish an image tarnished by backtracking on electoral reform, by saying "thank you very much for your donation” to a Grassy Narrows protester, and most recently, by large quantities of dark makeup. |

Supporters of the Second Amendment know there are innumerable hypothetical arguments against anti-gun policies, and unending amounts of statistical evidence that show the abject failure of gun-control laws to have any discernible impact on efforts to diminish violent crime. And when extremists opposed to our rights roll out the tired, overused phrase, “If it saves one life,” we know they have abandoned all logic and are simply resorting to an unprovable argument.

Nearly a month after New York’s new ‘red flag’ law took effect, Governor Cuomo is traveling the state, making the case for the law. The .22 Long was introduced in 1871, and was expected to be a natural progression from the .22 CB to the .22 Short and beyond. To improve the performance of the .22 Short, the case was lengthened and the powder charge boosted, while retaining the 29 grain bullet of the .22 Short. It is currently the second oldest surviving rimfire cartridge on the market.
