WICHITA, Kan. -- "A father used fishing line to catch a man he suspected of spying on his daughters. Brian, a hunter and fisherman, took a spool of fishing line, snaked the fishing line into the house, and left the spool on the kitchen counter. With his 6-year-old daughter in the bathroom one night last week, he got a bite. Brian stepped forward and ordered the man to lie down while his wife called police. 'It was just a stupid, little trap,' Brian said. 'But we got him.' " |

"AS around 400,000 people took to the streets of central London yesterday, it was without doubt the largest protest gathering in living memory."
"The crowds were so huge that people were forced to queue for six hours just to filter through to the official route of the march."
"The sheer numbers of people who wanted to take part was a measure of how strongly they wanted to get their message heard. And this was not just about hunting with dogs, which the Government will shortly seek to ban in England and Wales."
"The March for Liberty and Livelihood, which was organised by the Countryside Alliance, cannot be simply dismissed as a protest by the pro-hunt lobby."
"People had travelled from all over the country to voice a range of concerns, from milk prices and farm subsidies to the Government’s handling of last year’s foot-and-mouth crisis.
"However, the overall message that came through loud and clear was a simple one: that people living in rural areas are just not happy with this Government’s performance." |

FULL TEXT BELOW... ------- ORIGINAL TITLE: "HOW MANY DID STALIN MURDER?" ------- "St.Petersburg law enforcement officers discovered a very sensational find, which is most likely yet another mass burial situated near the Russia’s northern capital. Members of the Memorial searching group suppose that mass executions were held at the Rzhevsky artillery range during 1937-38."
"According to provisional and yet to be confirmed information, about 30,000 people are lying in the burial place. Several large common graves have been already discovered. Remains found prove that the people were shot. Experts say the shots in the back of the people’s heads were from 45 caliber guns, which were commonly used by the Soviet People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs."
"As of now, several graves have been already inspected, and a more detailed investigation of the area is to start very soon. However, there is another problem: the mass burial is situated in the functioning Rzhevsky artillery range, which is covered by unexploded mines and shells. In addition, no official evidence has been found yet to confirm that mass shootings had been executed at the range during 1937-38. A special searching group consisting of forensic medical experts, geographers, ballisticians, and soil scientists has already been created. Most likely, the fact that mass shootings were held at the artillery range during 1937-38 will be soon be confirmed." ------- "The people who vote decide nothing. Not gun related but inspiring nonetheless. It illustrates nicely that government can be controlled by the people if enough pressure is applied. Notice how two of offending 'public servants' are now looking for new jobs? ------- JENSEN BEACH, Fla. - "When Karen Shidel looks beyond her backyard, she sees an empty green landscape, a view she fought to get for seven years."
"Shidel led her neighbors in a legal battle to demolish an apartment complex that towered over their properties, peeking into their yards and swimming pools. The Martin County Commission had approved the complex's development, even though it violated the county's own growth rules."
"The neighbors recently won their lawsuit and demolition crews began tearing down the $3.3 complex two weeks ago. Only construction vehicles, trash bins and an abandoned leasing office remain."
" 'I don't think governments before this always paid attention to citizens. This gives us the feeling that maybe we do have a voice,' said Shidel, who no longer sees a two-story building and balcony from her back patio." ...

TUCSON -- "Juvenile probation officers in Pima County could be carrying guns as early as next spring."
"The change, sanctioned by the Arizona Supreme Court in January, is getting mixed reviews locally."
" 'One thing that I don't want to do is change our basic mission, or change the way we interact with the community and the kids we are entrusted with,' said Presiding Juvenile Court Judge Hector Campoy."
"Juvenile probation officers work with teens and children in a variety of settings, including school campuses. Their role is to focus more on rehabilitation than adult probation officers do."
"Roughly 100 of the adult probation department's 191 officers carry guns. There are about 20 officers who are qualified but don't carry a firearm."
"Juvenile Court spokeswoman Gabriela Rico said 166 juvenile probation officers will be eligible to apply to be armed."
NOTE:
Arizona is an open carry state, and getting a concealed weapons permit is relatively easy for a lawful person with a clean criminal history. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.... We've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of government himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price. — Ronald Reagan |
