"Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden was trying to convince rural Virginians the other day that he's a devoted gun owner who will not allow presidential nominee Barack Obama to 'fool with my Beretta.'"

"'Senator Biden must think America's gun owners are dumber than rocks,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. 'Here is a man who has supported every restrictive gun control and gun ban law that ever landed on his desk, suddenly telling Virginia residents that he's a gun owner, and very pro-gun."

"... 'Senator, it's not your Beretta that concerns American gun owners, but their own Colts, Smith & Wessons, Kimbers, Winchesters, Marlins, Remingtons, Mossbergs, Springfields, Kahrs and Brownings.'" ...

"Top 5 ways to observe National Hunting and Fishing Day 2008:"

"1. Introduce a newcomer to the outdoors."

Army, Special Forces and more recently Marine units are using them to warn or deter drivers approaching checkpoints and to 'defuse potential escalation of force incidents,' according to the report."

"Marines were given approval to use a green laser whose beam can temporarily reduce a person's vision when aimed from a distance of 1,000 yards, according to the report. These 'laser optical incapacitation devices' were being procured on a case-by-case basis." ...

"The D.C. Council should require all gun owners in the District to obtain gun liability insurance ['D.C. Legislation Would Remove More Gun Limits,' front page, Sept. 13]. The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of an individual right to own firearms, but it did not say that jurisdictions cannot regulate guns in a way similar to how cars are regulated. A study by P.J. Cook and Jens Ludwig, professors at Duke University and the University of Chicago, shows the direct and indirect costs of handgun violence exceed $100 billion a year." ...

"A coalition of religious and civil rights organizations has joined together in an effort to stop the Senate's consideration of H.R. 6842, which would endanger the lives of DC residents and the millions of people who visit Washington each year. H.R. 6842 would remove DC's bans on semiautomatic weapons and handgun ammunition, repeal registration requirements, and remove criminal penalties for possession of unregistered firearms. In the few remaining days before recessing, Congress should be working to protect Americans – not to place them in greater danger." ...

After 'Heller,' Reason Can Prevail

"The U.S. Supreme Court's Second Amendment decision last term, with its historic affirmation of an individual right to keep and bear arms, is being read as a harbinger of doom by gun-control advocates, and as cause for celebration by the National Rifle Association and its allies. In fact, it could play out exactly the other way around. District of Columbia v. Heller may finally open the door to sensible gun policy in the United States, and it could be the beginning of the end for the NRA, at least as we know it today." ...

"The federal judge that sentenced Weldon Angelos to 55 years and one day in prison in 2004 said his hands were tied by mandatory-minimum gun laws, calling his own sentence 'unjust, cruel, and even irrational.'"

"Now a law professor and a group of Am Law 200 lawyers are challenging the sentence on unique grounds: that Heller v. District of Columbia, the case celebrated as a definitive victory for gun rights, protects Angelos and others like him convicted of gun crimes."

"The Evanston City Council is still discussing what to do next after being "forced kicking and screaming" to amend its handgun ban last month."

"The change was made following a June 26 Supreme Court ruling, District of Columbia v. Heller ... The day after the landmark decision, the National Rifle Association brought a lawsuit against Evanston alleging its ban was unconstitutional."

"The City Council chose to change its ban instead of fighting the potentially expensive suit, said city corporation counsel Jack Siegel, who wrote the amendment. Now, Evanston residents can have handguns in their home for the purpose of self-protection, Siegel said. Other uses and other types of guns are still prohibited." ...

"Sarah Palin is more familiar with the Second Amendment issues important to average American gun owners than any Vice Presidential (or Presidential) candidate in decades."

"She doesn't wear gun rights on her sleeve, but is a citizen for whom guns are a natural and unremarkable part of life and tradition. She is an example of the ordinary gun owner in America."

"Palin understands the simple truth that people commit crimes, while guns, knives and hammers do not, and thus such objects should not be banned ..." ...

"A National Rifle Association advertising campaign distorts Obama’s position on gun control beyond recognition."

"The NRA is circulating printed material and running TV ads making unsubstantiated claims that Obama plans to ban use of firearms for home defense, ban possession and manufacture of handguns, close 90 percent of gun shops and ban hunting ammunition."

Much of what the NRA passes off as Obama’s '10 Point Plan to 'Change' the Second Amendment' is actually contrary to what he has said throughout his campaign: that he 'respects the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms' and 'will protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase, own, transport, and use guns.'" ...

"A clear examination of the NRA endorsements show that the NRA endorses Bob Schaffer for Senate, They stated: “Bob Schaffer amassed an outstanding voting record on firearms and hunting issues during his five years in the U.S. House, voting to protect gun shows and to protect our hunting heritage.
