A federal judge on Friday refused to dismiss gun charges against a Coast Guard lieutenant accused of being a domestic terrorist who stockpiled weapons and drafted a hit list of prominent Democrats and TV journalists.
U.S. District Judge George Hazel rejected defense attorneys' argument that charging Christopher Hasson with unlawful possession of firearm silencers violates his Second Amendment right to bear arms. Hazel said a silencer is a firearm accessory, not a weapon in and of itself, and therefore isn't a "bearable arm" protected by the Second Amendment. |

So declared Alan Gottlieb, founder and executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation and chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms as he opened the 34th annual Gun Rights Policy Conference in Phoenix over the weekend.
It was, according to a report in the Arizona Republic, the largest GRPC in the event’s history. It is no mystery why attendance was almost standing-room-only as the two-day session opened. |

In January, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear a Second Amendment challenge to a gun control law for the first time in nearly 10 years. The case arose from a New York City regulation that banned city residents with “premises” handgun licenses from taking their own legally-owned firearms outside Gotham for lawful purposes. The city defended the law all the way to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, insisting it was essential to public safety. |

In 2010, Advanced Armament Corporation developed the .300 AAC Blackout in conjunction with Remington Defense, with the intention of offering a .30 caliber cartridge with better performance than the 5.56mm ammunition currently in use. Replacing the 5.56 NATO cartridge is an idea that has been around since its introduction, but the urgency rose with the global War on Terror, which rapidly placed many of our troops in harm's way across many different situations and unfamiliar geography. |

The leftist Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) has raised an incredible possibility, apparently something they just noticed: Self defense might be legal! This is not a parody. This is not in the opinion section. This was written as a straight news article. As a common practice, writers search for sources they can quote, which will give the spin their outlet desires. |

There is a lot of talk about guns all across the country — a lot of “talk,” but not a lot of discussion. We are so entrenched in our opinions that we never discuss, we just talk and raise voices.
Discussions about gun safety do not threaten the Second Amendment. I believe that the National Rifle Association and all gun enthusiasts agree that there needs to be something done.
There are laws about about safety. For example, there were many people against wearing seat belts. There are laws about how fast you can go and laws that govern the right of way.
My point is that whenever safety is an issue, there need to be laws for protection. Guns are not the problem. People are.

Beto O’Rourke and the Democrat Presidential candidates talk about big splashy plans to confiscate or license guns and deny services to gun and ammunition manufacturers. That is unlikely to happen. What is more likely is a subtle, step by step non-legislative action that will ultimately lead to the nullification of the Second Amendment. |

Being an American in Australia means you get asked to explain America. They pay attention, as I suppose much of the world does. They know about the Electoral College and the Supreme Court and the filibuster. Australians generally like America, and they are horrified by the same things that Americans are. |

Sheriff Roger Deeds of Hoods County, Texas, has proposed turning his jurisdiction into a "sanctuary county" that would ignore any new gun laws introduced by the federal government. This means the district will not spend money or resources enforcing federal laws Deeds believes are an infringement of residents' constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

Gun control policy could play a significant role in the 73rd House District race, especially with the Republican contender breaking away from the party’s usual stance on gun control. Republican Mary Margaret Kastelberg is calling for stricter gun control policies but says her positions are consistent with gun owner’s Second Amendment rights.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them. — Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States; With a Preliminary Review of the Constitutional History of the Colonies and States before the Adoption of the Constitution [Boston, 1833]. |
