But that power extends only to people who are dangerous. Founding-era legislatures did not strip felons of the right to bear arms simply because of their status as felons. Nor have the parties introduced any evidence that founding-era legislatures imposed virtue-based restrictions on the right; such restrictions applied to civic rights like voting and jury service, not to individual rights like the right to possess a gun. In 1791—and for well more than a century afterward—legislatures disqualified categories of people from the right to bear arms only when they judged that doing so was necessary to protect the public safety. |

Ronnie Royal’s t-shirt summed up the feelings of dozens of Davie residents attending the board of adjustment hearing for a gun range off Sheffield and Duke Whittaker roads last week.
“I Support The NRA, Not The RMA,” his shirt read, the RMA referring to Recoil Management Academy, which had applied for a special use permit to build the range. Board members heard some five hours of testimony before continuing the meeting to Wednesday night, Sept. 23, when they were expected to make their decision. |

“It was the biggest gathering of gun rights activists in the world,” said Alan Gottlieb, founder and executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation, in the aftermath of this weekend’s 35th annual Gun Rights Policy Conference, held entirely online for the first time in history.
The event was viewed by well over 300,000 gun rights activists across the country on multiple platforms, and more than 4,100 people pre-registered for the event, which shatters all previous records, Gottlieb reported. He said it would be impossible to get an exact count of all the people who watched because several groups [including AmmoLand News] held “Watch Parties” attended by many people watching the program on large screens. |

It has now been four months since the shooting of James Scurlock and there are plenty of questions about self-defense from what is considered justifiable to what could get you into big trouble.
We went straight to the Nebraska statutes for answers to those questions. Here's the key: Use of force must be necessary and for the purpose of protecting yourself. If it escalates to deadly force, you have to believe your life is in danger or you are protecting yourself against serious bodily harm. |

No arrests were made in a fatal shooting Tuesday evening in John Day after the initial investigation indicated the shooting was in self-defense.
According to a press release by Grant County District Attorney Jim Carpenter, the preliminary investigation indicates that Patrick L. Duignan, 34, was harassing Lloyd N. Leach, 86, while Leach was attempting to get from his vehicle to his apartment in the 100 block of Southwest First Avenue in John Day. |

The 2020 presidential election is just six weeks away, and pollsters and pundits are turning more attention to the handful of swing states that could ultimately decide the outcome.
While the issue of the Second Amendment hasn't necessarily been at the forefront of this campaign cycle, the notion of gun rights has been a significant flashpoint throughout the turmoil and uncertainty of this year – induced by the ongoing global pandemic and national shutdown and further enhanced by the rioting and unrest that has permeated much of the country in recent months. |

We all heard of the scarcity of toilet paper as the pandemic hit in March. Apparently that was not the only item in demand. In early September, local, state and national headlines highlighted the record-breaking sales in firearms and ammunition. Abundant are suggested reasons for the demand.
Some cite the pandemic for the cause. That makes about as much sense as the hoarding of toilet paper. Circumstances stemming from the lockdowns caused by the virus may be more credible. Others point out the fear for personal safety as the riots have continued to terrorize citizens across the country. |

Gun owners are beginning to face heavier restrictions throughout northern Virginia as localities are passing ordinances to prohibit the carrying of weapons on some public property.
Local governing boards in Arlington County, Fairfax County, the city of Alexandria and the city of Falls Church have passed ordinances that prohibit people from carrying weapons in publicly owned buildings, publicly owned parks and at certain events that require a permit. Loudoun County is considering a similar ordinance. |

The announcement canceling the protest came just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday and stated that the GRNC office was receiving emails and voice messages from members concerned they would not be able to defend themselves if attacked while protesting.
The messages, according to GRNC, were variations of “I’ve been a member and supporter of GRNC for years, but this demonstration is scheduled for a political environment in which crazies from the left are lobbing bricks and Molotov cocktails, and under North Carolina law, I’m not allowed to carry a firearm for self-protection at a demonstration.” |

Your guns will be confiscated, since an armed citizenry is dangerous to an all powerful state. Our Founding Fathers made clear why the Second Amendment was in the Constitution. It must be removed. Likewise the First Amendment. Speech must be controlled, as many colleges and universities now put into practice. Business and industry is now following suit. Nice little job you got there, until you say the wrong thing. Then you get canceled. |

A federal judge ruled Howell Township did not violate gun owners' constitutional rights when township planners denied a request to amend a local ordinance that could have allowed a new outdoor gun range on property in the township.
Oakland Tactical Supply and five gun owners filed a federal lawsuit against the township in November 2018. In 2017, Oakland Tactical Supply owner Mike Paige filed an application to amend the township's zoning ordinance to allow a 1,000-yard outdoor shooting range and other amenities on about 350 acres on Fleming Road. It would have been called Premier Precision Park. |

Just over year ago, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said that the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008), which affirmed that the Second Amendment does protect an individual right, was incorrect.
Biden was asked during a town hall in Manchester N.H., “Do you agree with the D.C. v. Heller decision in regards to protecting the individual right to bear arms that are in common use and which are utilized for lawful purposes?” |

A pro-guns activist says two of President Trump's potential Supreme Court nominees would be a vast improvement over Ruth Bader Ginsburg when it comes to Second Amendment rights.
During her tenure on the high court, Ginsburg was not a friend of the Second Amendment. So Mike Hammond, legislative council to Gun Owners of America, says her vacant seat is a huge deal for the gun right advocates. |

We are voting for the First Amendment. We are voting for the Second Amendment. We are voting for potential Supreme Court justices who hold a constitutional viewpoint. We are voting for the Electoral College, which the Democrats would like to abolish along with state’s rights in national elections. We are voting for liberty over failed Socialistic Marxism. We are voting for the police, and law and order, instead of against the police and lawlessness as seen throughout our Democrat controlled states and cities. We are voting for the military instead of its demise. We are voting for the veterans who fought for and died for this country. |
