In the 1970s, Maj. Richard J. Keogh, a retired U.S. Army ordnance officer, was visiting his sister in Ireland, where she had returned some years previously, having been raised in Massachusetts. The Keogh family had emigrated to New England from Ireland in the early 20th century, and it contained a number of relatives who were notable personalities during the “Troubles” of 1916-1923. Richard (“Dick”) had joined the U.S. Army in the post-World War II period and had served with distinction in Vietnam before retiring in Hawaii. |

The theory is that we can make criminals harmless by regulating the people who obey the law. When that doesn’t work, the gun-control idealists say we need more and more laws to reach their utopia.
It is more than a cliché to say that a conservative gun-activist is a liberal who was mugged. I’ve met them and heard their stories. I want all of us to learn from them. |

When it comes to the most iconic rifle cartridges developed by the U.S. Military that defined two generations, no one can debate that the 30-06 Springfield and the 308 Winchester are at the top of the list.
Not only have these two rifle cartridges served our troops faithfully overseas, but they are also two of the most popular hunting cartridges across North America and around the globe. |

The Second Amendment Foundation is cheering Friday’s 71-page ruling by a federal district court judge striking down, for the second time, California’s ban on so-called “high-capacity magazines,” and suggests this will affect similar ban in other states.
U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez handed down the 71-page ruling, noting in his decision, “Removable firearm magazines of all sizes are necessary components of semiautomatic firearms. |

A Bellevue-based gun-rights organization claims it has been unlawfully targeted by the state attorney general through a yearslong investigation by its Consumer Protection Division. The Second Amendment Foundation, its founder Alan Gottlieb, and several other affiliated organizations initially sued Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson in federal court over the investigation in May. This week, the organization moved the lawsuit to state court, where it believes it will get a quicker resolution. |

Back in April I may have snuck into the NRA BOD party. May have. It was suggested that I work the room. Someone took me around to meet folks that I haven’t met and see if I could connect and maybe get them on the show. It’s fantastic to me when people I haven’t met come up, say hello, and want to talk. As I was sweeping around the room, Todd Ellis stopped me and asked when the episode with Nayara Andrejczyk (RSWC #171) was going to be published. Todd is an NRA BOD member, but also a Training Counselor. They were friends and she had done some training with him. We exchanged cards and I kept working the room. |

After years of pinballing around the federal courts, California’s two-decade-old ban on magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds was once again torpedoed last week. Writing from his bench in San Diego, U.S. District Court Judge Roger Benitez issued a scathing 71-page decision in the long-running case of Duncan v. Bonta. |

Tennessee-based SDS Imports has a new offering for the always-hungry 1911 market – an easy-carrying alloy framed Commander-sized gun dubbed the Aviator. Made in Turkey by Tisas – a firm that has received widespread acclaim for its high-quality 1911s – the Aviator uses a full-sized aluminum alloy frame to save weight, hitting the scales at 32 ounces. The "in the white" look, like that seen on World War II-era P-51 Mustangs and B-17 Flying Fortresses, comes from a protective H-151 Satin Aluminum Cerakote finish, offset by black Cerakoted surface controls and slide. |

It took me a long time to write this piece. I spent the first three months waiting for my writing permit, which by law should have taken 50 days, but which was delayed while the staff at the Federal Department of Print went on strike. Despite asking, I never did get a discount on the $75 processing fee. |

The concept of a handgun that chambers both the .410 bore shotshell and .45 Colt cartridge has been around for a while, beginning with the Thompson/Center Contender in the late 1960s. Several designs followed in both single-shot and revolving form. The most well-known of the latter type is the Taurus Judge. For 2023, Rossi is offering its take on the .410/.45 pistol with the Brawler.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
We'll take one step at a time, and the first is necessarily - given the political realities - very modest. We'll have to start working again to strengthen the law, and then again to strengthen the next law and again and again. Our ultimate goal, total control of handguns, is going to take time. The first problem is to slow down production and sales. Next is to get registration. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and ammunition (with a few exceptions) totally illegal. — Pete Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc., New Yorker Magazine, June 26, 1976, pg. 53 |
