... "If we are to sic the government on the 'voices of hate,' what are we to do when those voices are commissioned by the government?" ...

"The blogger in question ... is charged with threatening the lives of three federal judges ... The FBI acknowledges that they have, in the past, employed him as a paid informant and agent provocateur. Although that relationship was apparently not in effect at the time of his articulating his wish for the death of the federal judges, that was exactly the kind of thing he was expected to say when on the FBI payroll."

"What I cannot help but wonder is what those clamoring for 'justice' against the 'hate speakers' would suggest we do when the 'hate speech' comes at the government's behest."

Why Is Plaxico Burress in Jail?

"To summarize, Burress is being prosecuted not for damaging another person's body or property, for which that person has filed a complaint, seeking restitution and/or damages; he's being prosecuted for not having a permission slip from the State to carry his own property. And the people who helped him get medical treatment are being threatened for not turning Burress in to the State for not having a permission slip and because the piece of his property, for which he didn't have a permission slip, involved in the victimless incident happened to be a gun; and for not cooperating with the State, once the non-crime came to its attention, in helping it gather evidence to prosecute Burress for the non-crime, and possibly to prosecute them ..." ...

"President Obama's pick to serve as the assistant secretary of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is an 'aggressively anti-business' proponent of junk science who should not be confirmed by the Senate, his critics say." ...

"... [Dr. David] Michaels' critics say the epidemiologist, who has conducted numerous studies on the health effects of occupational exposure to toxic chemicals, will bring a junk science-based, anti-business agenda to the post. Second Amendment advocates are also up in arms, saying they expect Michaels to seek stricter gun control in the workplace as an issue of public health." ...

"National Hunting and Fishing Day is set for Sept. 26, 2009. Congress formalized the annual celebration 37 years ago but organizers say hunters and anglers deserve America's respect now more than ever."

"'Recent-year surveys show nearly 8 in 10 Americans approve of hunting and more than 9 in 10 approve of fishing. That's strong support. But, when viewed in the context of a recession and other modern headlines, our sporting traditions look even better today,' said Denise Wagner of Wonders of Wildlife museum in Springfield, Mo., the official home of NHF Day." ...

... "An interesting question that seeks a single, simple answer to to an almost unlimited universe of possibilities."

"For example, why would barter zones be disarmament zones? They will be what the consumers demand in terms of rules. You want me to come and trade my horses for your salt? Fine, I stay armed. No? Then you bring your salt to my AO. ..."

"Cops won't let you walk around with long guns? And who feeds them? ... If its like almost every small town I know, Charlie will come into town with his oldest sons and buddies as a security force escorting the wagon of consumables to trade ... "Anytime you carry a gun on your person, you should use a holster for it."

"Any decent holster will cover the trigger on the gun, decreasing the chance of an accidental discharge ..."

"Another important advantage is that the holster will keep the gun in the same place so you know exactly where it was at. Where this really comes into play is when dropping a gun into a purse, briefcase, or pocket."

"There are companies that make purses, briefcases, backpacks, etc. that are designed for carrying a gun. These have built-in holsters ... Anyone who has ever fumbled for keys in a purse or briefcase knows how important it would be for the gun to be exactly where you know it to be if you need to get at it quickly." ...

"Wicker had tacked the amendment – with threatens to withhold the $1.6 billion subsidy Amtrak receives if a gun-ban continues -- onto a transportation and housing appropriations bill."

'In our country today, airline passengers may transport firearms and ammunition in secure, checked baggage when declared during the check-in process,' Wicker said in a written statement. 'Amtrak passengers are not permitted to do the same.'" ...

"I was very pleased by last year's Supreme Court ruling [in Heller] ... I have always felt that if a carry permit holder can legally walk down Market Street, it makes little sense that they cannot legally walk across Krutch Park. I also have understood the concern about guns in parks with playgrounds and ball fields."

"Unfortunately we could not amend our city ordinance to apply only to some parks. ... I thought it best to avoid monkeying with this situation and risk ending up with criminal penalties in some parks and no penalties in others. My greatest concern was that criminal liabilities are removed from all parks." ...

"Most Americans probably are familiar with the philosophy, 'If guns were outlawed, then only outlaws would have guns.'"

"Stroudsburg Mayor Charlie Baughman has come under fire from the [NRA] and Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association for recently joining the Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition. That's because both associations believe MAIG wants to take away Americans' right ... to legally bear arms*."

"'It's not about taking away any law-abiding citizen's legal right,' Baughman said this week. 'I legally own a gun myself and I wouldn't like it if someone told me I didn't have the right to own it. This is about working to keep guns out of the hands of those not permitted to own them.'" ...
-------

Submitter's Note: What it's about is incrementally making it more unpleasant, expensive and more of a hassle to own a gun, to exclude more and more people from gun ownership with "common sense restrictions" and to make penalties so onerous that the law-abiding don't dare try to own guns.

Remember our recent piece about the stationing of an LRAD (long-range acoustic device) acoustic weapon at a San Diego Congressional town hall meeting?

The linked video shows one in use, albeit presumably in test/demonstration mode, as part of the "overwhelming show of force" supporting the G-20 meeting in Pittsburgh.

Submitter's Note: Read it all, as well as the slideshow at the end of the post.

And yes, I do know against whom this tool is being used today.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
As I have stood in the crosshairs of those who target Second Amendment freedoms, I've realized that firearms are not the only issue. No, it's much, much bigger than that. I've come to understand that a cultural war is raging across our land, in which, with Orwellian fervor, certain acceptable thoughts and speech are mandated. — Charlton Heston
