Sound Bites are Easy, but Safety is Hard- notes from the 2019 Gun Rights Policy Conference

It takes more than virtue signaling to make us safer. That is the message I took away from the 2019 Gun Rights Policy Conference. I met the people who are doing the real work of making our homes, our offices and our schools safer. They live with the real-world problems that go far beyond 144 character solutions and political press-releases.

I came away with hope, but progress isn’t easy.

Senators were convening Monday to approve Fritz William Michel's nomination as prime minister. Several hundred opposition supporters confronted Fethiere and other senators from the governing party. Fethiere pulled a pistol when protesters rushed at him and members of his entourage.

Moments before the shooting, AP journalists saw supporters of about a half-dozen opposition senators approaching Fethiere, hurling dirt at him and accusing him of selling his vote in favor of Michel.

I can see owning a weapon for self-defense. I can also see owning them to hunt. But why do you need a gun that can fire several rounds of ammunition just to take down a deer or rabbit? The only purpose for this type weapon is to kill as many people in a short period of time.

These type weapons should be in the hands of our police and military to protect us. They do not need to be in the hands of deranged people to kill at will.

Regardless, the stun gun law has passed. Some now feel protected, but does this promote a sense of security overall?

Being a woman, I fear more now than I did before. This is not a law I could personally agree on. I do not feel safer. Stun guns are supposed to make iowans feel more secure, but we might get more than what we bargained for.

I feel the law gave the attackers more leverage. Think about it this way: what would happen in a situation where you find yourself in a struggle? You lose your device, and now the attacker has it. Your safety device is now a weapon being used against you.

There have been a couple of variations of these on the market in the past with varying degrees of success but with this latest generation of AR-12 we think that Panzer Arms of Turkey has finally hit on the ultimate combination of design and features. This shotgun has beautifully styled polymer furniture that has a great feel similar to Houge. Butt stock has a built in recoil pad with an ergonomic pistol grip. Flat top receiver with a full weaver rail . Forearm has a great futuristic and ergonomic design with a quad rail molded in to the top as well as a light attachment molded in to the front of the fore end. Chambered for both 2 3/4″ and 3″ shells.

To be clear, when Senator Feinstein refers to “ensuring that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited,” she isn’t talking about restricting people’s right to unusual armaments, or those that are only legally used by members of the US Armed Forces. She is talking about the most common rifle platform owned by ordinary law-abiding citizens, the AR-15. The National Shooting Sports Foundation estimates there are 16-million AR-15-type modern sporting rifles owned by civilians in the US.

Part-time South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg currently spends his days running far behind people like Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders in the race for the Democrat presidential nomination. That’s probably more fun than running his increasingly crime-ridden city. And like all of the other Democrats running for President, he doesn’t like guns.

But what he said in recent days says more about him than it does about America’s gun owners.

The most arresting pieces of evidence, which came into court through security videos and body camera recordings, illustrated just how fast the shooting happened.

In one clip, the officers who responded to shots fired at the Triangle Mart early on Feb. 24 found the victim’s empty car still running in the parking lot, its stereo audibly pulsing, its owner lying newly dead near the gas pumps.

Dave Hardy, an attorney in private practice in Arizona, thinks this is the term when the Supreme Court finally decides whether a constitutional right to carry a firearm extends beyond the front door.

Gun rights advocates like Hardy, who’s been writing about the Second Amendment since the 1970s, have waited for years for the Supreme Court to hear a new challenge to a gun control law.

Guyger has she said she mistook Botham Jean’s apartment for her own when she shot him last September. Gugyer, who was off duty but in uniform at the time, was later fired from the force.

Guyger’s attorneys have argued that she fired in self-defense based on the mistaken belief that Jean was a burglar.

Prosecutors say Jean was no threat to Guyger, noting that Jean was in his living room eating a bowl of ice cream when she entered his apartment.

The White House has announced new plans on gun control. House Democrats are pushing another universal background check bill, and high-profile Republicans in both chambers of Congress are campaigning for a new federal grant program that would incentivize states to pass “red flag” laws. It is not overstating the case to say that there has never been a greater threat to due process and the Second Amendment.

“What we can’t do is fail to pass something,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, when asked about last month’s shootings in El Paso, Texas; Dayton, Ohio; and Philadelphia.

'The squad' smears the NRA as ‘mass murderers’ and ‘white supremacists’

Are you an ardent supporter of gun rights? Well, Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and at least one of her cohorts in “the squad” think you’re a terrorist and mass murderer. At least, if you support the National Rifle Association.

In a video released last night, the squad is shown on tape reacting in real-time after NRA activists approach the four congresswomen respectively and ask them questions that are perhaps antagonistic, but well within the bounds of reasonable discourse.

Tech Censorship Has Huge Second Amendment Implications

Just as the Big Three broadcast television networks—ABC, CBS and NBC—used to control what news was delivered into our living rooms, now a handful of tech companies have the power to determine which news articles you read, which friends’ social-media posts you see and even which political candidate’s ads show up when you search for information about the next election.

The thought of a few tech oligarchs amplifying political commentary they agree with, while muting what they find detestable, isn’t just the stuff of dystopian novels anymore. Time and again, there are indications that Facebook, Google, YouTube and Twitter have moved to help anti-gun causes and to hide gun-rights ones.

Profiling a substantial barrier to gun control

One estimate shows there were 14,611 murders by guns in the U.S. in 2018 with only 373 from mass shootings.

Should we save lives by taking the guns of the millions of law-abiding gun owners or the criminals?

We could allow cops to stop and frisk, including traffic stops. All illegal guns would be confiscated and law-breakers arrested. Massive sweeps of crime-ridden neighborhoods would unquestionably save lives.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves. — Winston Churchill
