A shipment of military surplus storage cases recently bought by a Texas couple had at least one filled with some NFA-regulated party favors, sans tax stamps.
The unidentified winners of an auction for over 100 green plastic Hardigg rifle shipping and storage cases from a Georgia-based online surplus company cracked open one to find at least a dozen M16s inside, reports KTRK in Houston. In what was probably the right move from a legal standpoint but what will be an epic let own for many, they called the ATF who "quickly" arrived to pick up the guns. |

As part of a criminal justice “reform” effort, the state of Illinois is preparing to unleash the first statewide no-cash bail law, which will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2023, and the ramifications could be disastrous. The policy, or variations of it, have already been implemented in a number of areas, generally promoted by radical District Attorneys (DAs) who have decided that, rather than using a financial commitment (bail) from an accused individual to better ensure that person shows up for their day in court, an honor system is all that is needed.

Last week, a federal judge in the Western District of Texas ruled that a law which prohibits the acquisition of firearms by someone who is under felony indictment violates the Second Amendment. The decision to invalidate a major provision of the Gun Control Act of 1968 underscores the gravity of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision in New York Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, which prescribed a standard of review that lower courts must apply when resolving Second Amendment cases. The case from the Western District of Texas is United States v. Quiroz.

During a recent Illinois House Public Safety and Violence Prevention Task Force hearing on addressing gun violence, Christian Heyne with The Brady Campaign praised the state’s Firearm Owner Identification card law. “The license to purchase, the FOID system in Illinois, is something that has a tremendous impact on the flow of illegal guns in ensuring that the people who are purchasing weapons are adequately screened and that they are purchasing the guns for themselves,” Heyne said. |

Did you ever see something that just knocked your socks off? I felt that way when first I encountered the woman who would ultimately become my wife. Meeting each of my kids left me similarly humbled. On a smaller scale, I recall being awestruck when I initially saw a smart phone in action. In each case on a visceral level, I knew I was in the presence of something extraordinary. |

The .500 Smith & Wesson Magnum, commonly referred to as the .500 S&W, is the most powerful production handgun cartridge on the planet. Affectionately coined the “half-incher,” these bullets grace the top of the big-bore spectrum and can easily take down big game that weighs 1,000 pounds or more.
With its size and strength, the .500 Magnum is a no-compromise round. It features a .500-inch diameter bullet that sits in a semi-rimmed case that’s 1.625 inches long. Together, they reach an overall length of 2.3 inches, a massive round for a handgun. |

The world of self-defense is defined by extreme positions; in particular, when dealing with the use of the handgun for personal protection, most take their sides on what we should be training for. The majority of concealed carriers will regale the troupe of “three yards, three shots, three seconds.” There is some validity to this mantra; most civilian-oriented defensive shootings are resolved quickly, with only a few rounds fired, and take place at close range. The problem is, however, that this is a common theme but hardly a rule. There are numerous examples of incidents that demanded far more rounds fired or happened at far greater distances than this. |

The world has always been a dangerous place and that has escalated during the COVID pandemic. Fewer people are working and more people are venturing into the great outdoors. I define the outdoors as different from the wilderness. The wilderness is a wild place where few humans venture and the threat is almost exclusively from animal predators. The outdoors is more dangerous, as it’s often populated by both human and animal predators. |

If you were to ask astute gun owners to name five rifle makers, Savage Arms would likely make the list for most—and for good reason. The company’s omnipresent rifles have an unparalleled reputation for delivering world-class accuracy at an affordable price. Frankly, the performance-to-price ratio is unmatched, which is the reason Savage rifles remain at the top of the list of the everyman, even after a century of operation. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Some people think that the Second Amendment is an outdated relic of an earlier time. Doubtless some also think that constitutional protections of other rights are outdated relics of earlier times. We The People own those rights regardless, unless and until We The People repeal them. For those who believe it to be outdated, the Second Amendment provides a good test of whether their allegiance is really to the Constitution of the United States, or only to their preferences in public policies and audiences. The Constitution is law, not vague aspirations, and we are obligated to protect, defend, and apply it. If the Second Amendment were truly an outdated relic, the Constitution provides a method for repeal. The Constitution does not furnish the federal courts with an eraser." --9th Circuit Court Judge Andrew Kleinfeld, dissenting opinion in which the court refused to rehear the case while citing deeply flawed anti-Second Amendment nonsense (Nordyke v. King; opinion filed April 5, 2004) |
