California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed into law an 11 percent tax on guns and ammunition Tuesday, describing the gun control measure as a “sin tax.” On August 23, 2023, Breitbart News reported that California Assemblyman Jesse Gabriel (D) was pushing legislation to create the 11 percent excise tax on firearm and ammunition sales in the state.

Professional gun control advocates have always had a seat at the table in the Biden White House. Now, however, they will not only sit at the table but also will determine its menu, set it, and compile the guest list for it. This comes under a new initiative launched by Joe Biden last Friday to establish an Office of Gun Violence Prevention, to be overseen by none other than Kamala Harris.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is applauding the 424-1 House vote approving the Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act, thereby crushing the Biden administration’s effort to block federal funding for school shooting sports programs. “Joe Biden’s attempt to stop funding for these important school programs was yet another demonstration of just how extreme this administration can be when it comes to guns and even hunting,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “These are programs that not only provide valuable and genuine safety training, but they also contribute to teaching the next generation about wildlife conservation while passing along an American tradition.

On Tuesday, October 3rd, Attorney General Patrick Morrisey will be hosting a Second Amendment Round Table meeting from 1:30-2:30pm in Morgantown. He will be discussing several Second Amendment related topics that his office is engaged in, including his leadership position in the NRA-backed lawsuit against the ATF’s pistol brace ruling.

Another person has been sentenced for stealing guns from a business in Derry. Gary Ortiz Jr., 19, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, was part of a group that broke into Second Amendment Outdoors in December 2021 and stole a dozen guns.

On Tuesday night, the U.S. House passed a resolution against President Joe Biden’s attacks on school hunting and archery programs by a vote of 424-1. The clerk for the U.S. House listed the one lone “nay” vote as being cast by Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX).

On Sept. 1, Jackson Mayor Carlos Duffey joined 42 other mayors from around the state to send a letter asking Gov. Brian Kemp and the members of the Georgia General Assembly to take action to lessen gun violence in Georgia. During the Tuesday, Sept. 19 meeting of the Jackson City Council, Jackson resident Teresa Hampton asked Duffey if by signing the letter he supports “taking away the Second Amendment.”

On October 1st Senate Bill One in Maryland is set to go into effect banning concealed carry of handguns in schools, hospital settings, childcare venues, stadiums, and more. State Senator Johnny Mautz says the restrictions are so extensive- it in effect is a repeal of the state’s concealed carry system.

California has the strictest firearm laws in the United States, but a large number of violent crimes still involve a firearm. A new report from the Public Policy Institute of California lays out the number of violent crimes involving a firearm in the state, and the numbers are staggering. While the number fell to 24.3% in 2022, the number is still up from pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Since 2019, aggravated assaults with a gun have increased by 61%, homicides by 38%, and robberies by 13%.

When it comes to picking your next semi-automatic everyday carry (EDC) handgun, two calibers that you should consider are the .380 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) and the 9mm Luger (9x19mm NATO, 9mm Parabellum). Both cartridges fire the same 9mm (0.355”) diameter bullet, but the .380 ACP has a shorter overall case length and is, therefore, the more anemic round.

Inserting polymer into a defensive-handgun bullet is nothing new. In 1999, Federal finalized the design of the expanding full-metal-jacket bullet (EFMJ) which used a polymer insert ahead of a lead core, inside a full-metal-jacket bullet. In 2009, Hornady introduced Critical Defense ammunition and, a few years later, its Critical Duty loads.
