If the crowd at yesterday’s opening session of the 30th annual Gun Rights Policy Conference in Phoenix had read the Newsmax report on speculation on Michael Bloomberg’s possible run for president as an independent, the groans might have been heard all the way to New York City.
That’s because the billionaire former Big Apple mayor’s name was used in vain numerous times by various speakers. They blasted him for using his wealth to help buy an anti-gun initiative election last year in Washington, for supporting politicians in Oregon who passed a so-called “universal background check” law in Oregon, and for supporting a similar effort in Nevada. |

The recently published study State Gun Law Environment and Youth Gun Carrying in the United States purports to prove that “more restrictive overall gun control policies are associated with a reduced likelihood of youth gun carrying.” The usual media suspects have decided that the study also proves that less restrictive gun control laws lead to more youth gun carrying, leading to more firearms-related teen suicides. |

Our old friends at CNN are at it again (still). This time they’re breathlessly yet loudly pronouncing the results of a study posted in JAMA Pediatrics. The report title is innocuous enough; State Gun Law Environment and Youth Gun Carrying in the United States. CNN takes the idea and runs with it. They headline their take Stricter state gun laws keep firearms out of hands of youth complete with a two-minute video featuring “The Loneliest Club” [click on the link to watch]. That would be a group of 40 people who have lost loved ones to CGUs (Criminal Gun Uses).

If you think that in the 14 years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Americans have learned that commercial airline passengers are not allowed to carry on board a weapon — think again..
In the week that ended Sept. 18, the Transportation Security Administration collected 67 firearms from airline passengers, a new weekly record that surpassed the previous high of 65 firearms uncovered in May of 2013.

On Sept. 16, the Union-Bulletin ran an Associated Press story on how gun-control groups believe they’re winning the gun debate. I’d like to offer a response.
#It’s not surprising to hear Michael Bloomberg-funded groups such as Moms Demand Action and Everytown claim to be winning the gun debate. They don’t stick to the facts when pushing their anti-gun agenda, so why stick to the facts when touting their success? Because the truth hurts. |

Beware when The Washington Post calls someone a “moderate.” It probably means they’re a liberal ranter. In Sunday’s newspaper, a book review by Post writer Michael Rosenwald of a book called Arms: The Culture and Credo of the Gun by a Canadian journalist named A. J. Somerset who loathes American gun culture. It's titled "Wisdom of a Gun-Owning Moderate." For example: “The color white plays an important role in this history: Somerset writes that ‘race war has long been the drunken uncle of American gun culture.’” He claims “Guns are all about keeping black people down”. |

Annual crime stats will be released this week, and the number of people killed in gun-related violence is expected to be as high as ever. Chandre Gould and Adele Kirsten argue that interviews with men who are serving time in jail for violent crimes indicate that gun ownership alone is a key problem

Every once in a while, a Democratic gun-grabber says something so shockingly stupid that it boggles the mind of any intelligent American who cares to think instead of feel. In this case, that dopey, liberal stupidity came from Virginia Democrat (imagine that) Patrick Hope giving us the typical, liberal, knee-jerk reaction of immediately calling for more gun control in the wake of a publicized shooting (read: shamelessly exploiting tragedy for political gain). I’m talking about the horrific televised murders of two Virginia news reporters by a psychopath, a loser. |

My good friend Roy Weissman has a great saying: “I want to be successful in business in spite of myself.”
Why do I like this so much? Because, as business owners, we have a tendency to get in our own way. Often, decisions we make cause unanticipated issues -- good and bad -- also known as unintended consequences -- those outcomes from an action that are not what you wanted or maybe even imagined possible. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
To trust arms in the hands of the people at large has, in Europe, been believed...to be an experiment fraught only with danger. Here by a long trial it has been proved to be perfectly harmless...If the government be equitable; if it be reasonable in its exactions; if proper attention be paid to the education of children in knowledge and religion, few men will be disposed to use arms, unless for their amusement, and for the defence of themselves and their country. — Timothy Dwight, Travels in New England and New York [London 1823] |
