"Last Monday, we looked at a sampling of the hysteria triggered by a Senate vote to cut off federal funding for Amtrak, unless passengers are once again permitted to travel with locked, unloaded firearms in their checked baggage. In that column, I focused mostly on how silly the citizen disarmament advocates' claimed fears were ... Now, though, it occurs to me that this is no laughing matter--that Mayor Bloomberg, Representative McCarthy, and company, are actually resisting a change that could do much to combat the very real dangers of terrorism."

"I am not referring to a scenario in which armed passengers would dispatch the terrorists before they could accomplish their evil mission ..." ...

"Although Wilt Alston has written a piece good enough to be the Last Word on the unjust imprisonment of Plaxico Burress, nonetheless, I figure I will do mop-up duty, as well as second his excellent commentary. Indeed, I believe that Burress is a political prisoner who is being disguised by the press as a felon. Given that the mainstream media today is little more than a mouthpiece for the political classes, I think it is safe to say that the press does not 'get it,' nor ever will." ...

"Gov. Jan Brewer recently signed five pieces of legislation that foster gun-safety education in Arizona's schools and reinforce the rights of gun owners in the state into law."

Jack Harper and Russell Pearce, and mandates that Arizona's Right-to-Carry permit holders are allowed to defend themselves in public restaurants, store their firearm in a locked vehicle while parked in a publicly accessible parking lot, and reveal their firearm to an individual threatening them or a loved one."

"The 24th Annual Gun Rights Policy Conference, 'Challenges Ahead,' wrapped up this weekend, and was jam packed with good information for pro-gun activists across the country."

"While we are faced with a multitude of challenges from the economy and an anti-gun administration, there is plenty of hope for the future if we're willing to work for it."

"The 'Chicago Gun Cases' are now pending in the Supreme Court, which should vote on September 29 whether to hear them or not. In the meantime, yet another case is slowly moving in the same direction. Like the Chicago cases, the main issue is whether the 2nd Amendment applies to the States via the 14th Amendment."

"Nordyke v. King challenges an Alameda County, California, regulation forbidding carrying of firearms on county property, a rule that was aimed at barring gun shows from the county fairground. Gun show organizers filed suit in 1999 – yes, the case has bounced from one court to another for a full decade! It finally arrived in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which covers the far west and has historically been anti-gun." ...

But the president didn't accomplish this on his own; a good deal of credit goes to the gun lobby, which has always relied on fearmongering and paranoia as critical parts of its strategic arsenal. In its propaganda campaign in the run-up to the 2008 election, the NRA portrayed Obama as the most anti-gun candidate in the history of the republic." ...

Submitter's Note: No it wouldn't. Let's look at just one topic, closing the mythical gun show loophole. MAIG want's gun show promoters to 'register' with the AG, pay a fee and get a license. No limit on the fee, no mention of requirements to get a license. Really makes you want to run a gun show, doesn't it.

Anyone who sells as much as a single gun at a show, or talks to someone about a gun which they later buy elsewhere, is a 'vendor' and must be registered with the promoter. Failure to do so will send the buyer and seller to prison for two years, but the promoter faces five years. Still want to run a gun show?

How about the waiver of your 4th, 5th 6th and 14th amendment rights? "[T]he Attorney General may enter during business hours the place of business of any gun show promoter and any place where a gun show is held for the purposes of examining the records required by sections 923 and 932 and the inventory of licensees conducting business at the gun show. Such entry and examination ... shall not require a showing of reasonable cause or a warrant." No warrant required, no presumption of innocence. Still want to run a gun show?

Passaic Police Officer Joseph Rios III faces an aggravated assault charge and one count of official misconduct stemming from the May 29 incident.

A restaurant surveillance camera captured Rios, 28, flinging Ronnie Holloway, 50, to the ground at a Passaic intersection and hitting him while Rios' partner paces around nearby.

Rios' attorney, Anthony Iacullo, said Monday that his client denies any wrongdoing and expects to be vindicated once evidence is presented to a jury.

The Passaic County prosecutor says Rios' partner faces departmental charges.

Both Rios and his partner have been suspended without pay.
