A bill proposed today in the Florida Legislature would allow the killing of bears in self-defense.
House Bill 87, proposed by Representative Jason Shoaf, faces an uphill battle as it passes through the legislature. Under the bill, people can kill bears without authorization or permits if the person feels threatened. However, a person cannot lure a bear or provoke an attack and must contact the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Committee within 24 hours so they can dispose of the remains. The person also may not “possess, sell, or dispose of the taken bear or its parts.” |

Supervisor Dean Preston proposed a new ordinance earlier this year that would bar armed security guards from drawing their weapons in response to a property crime in progress — following the widespread outrage over the April killing of Banko Brown.
That ordinance had a hearing at the Board of Supervisors' Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee today, and as Mission Local reports, and all three supervisors on the committee supported putting it forward to the full board. |

Whether you’re a competitive shooter who loads a new mag after every string, a TEOTWAWKI prepper who stockpiles just in case, or just a concealed carrier who’d like to have a couple of extra magazines at your disposal, you’ve found yourself shopping for additional magazines for your handgun or AR-15. You’ve no doubt discovered that buying OEM mags from the gun’s manufacturer is a pricey proposition—they’re just plain expensive. There are cheaper options online made by aftermarket third parties. Are they any good? How bad is it to use these aftermarket magazines? |

There are two decisions about the future of gun rights in California that the employees at Rifle Supply are closely watching these days.
Like many firearms enthusiasts, they anticipate the imminent end of California’s ban on “large-capacity magazines” capable of holding more than 10 rounds, a potential boon to their business. U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez of San Diego overturned the law on Friday, with a brief stay to give the state a chance to appeal. |

On behalf of the over 2.2 million members of AMAC – Association of Mature American Citizens, including over 5,400 members in TX-27, I write to offer our support for H.R.5561, a bill “Protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms,” which you and 38 cosponsors introduced. We fully support the purpose of the bill, “To prohibit the President and the Secretary of Health and Human Services from declaring certain emergencies or disasters for the purpose of imposing gun control.
“If you let the government break the law for an emergency, government will create an emergency to break the law.” ~ Anonymous |

This awful day in 2018 set in motion a chain of events that included the passage of Ethan’s Law, which mandates safety rules for storing a weapon in a home where minors are present. It passed in our state of Connecticut a few years ago by a near-unanimous vote. It even won the support of many Second Amendment advocates.
And that’s the point — neither the state nor federal version of Ethan’s Law should be called “gun control.” It’s life-saving legislation for our children, period. |

County sheriffs in upstate communities are voicing concerns about the state's 2-week-old ammunition background check system, saying they disagree with state political leaders that it will reduce gun violence in the state.
More members of law enforcement Thursday spoke out about the New York State Police background check system as issues persist and U.S. Supreme Court justices will consider taking up a challenge to the state's Concealed Carry Improvement Act and background checks on ammo purchases. |

Yesterday, hundreds of Massachusetts gun owners gathered at the Boston Common to voice their opposition to the proposal, asserting they would not comply with the restrictions detailed in the bill. Even though an event organized by Moms Demand Action took place earlier this month, urging the Legislature to take action on Day's bill, the advocacy by gun rights proponents showcases the deeply rooted disagreements surrounding gun control measures as stated in Union Leader article. |

Almost immediately, gun rights groups decried the move, Sheriff John Allen of Bernalillo County, alongside the Albuquerque police chief, made a public statement explaining that his office would not enforce the governor’s order because of the potential for “civil liability conflicts,” and the concern that enforcing a gun restriction would lead to more violence. The New Mexico Sheriff’s Association also issued a statement opposing the ban. |

New gun safety measures were signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom adding to the state's already strict gun safety legislation.
One of the most notable measures signed on Tuesday was Senate Bill 2, which is designed to strengthen the state’s public carry regulations and adjusts the age requirement to apply for a California Concealed Weapons permit age requirement.
“While radical judges continue to strip away our ability to keep people safe, California will keep fighting — because gun safety laws work," Newsom said on Tuesday. "The data proves they save lives: California’s gun death rate is 43% lower than the rest of the nation. These new laws will make our communities and families safer.” |

Professional gun control advocates have always had a seat at the table in the Biden White House. Now, however, they will not only sit at the table but determine its menu, set it, and compile the guest list for it. This comes under a new initiative launched by Joe Biden last Friday to establish an Office of Gun Violence Prevention, to be overseen by none other than Kamala Harris. But while the effort is supposedly being run by the White House “to reduce gun violence,” its real purpose is to employ professional gun control advocates and amplify their propaganda and agenda with taxpayer dollars. |

Are ammunition magazines constitutionally protected arms? Or are they simply accessories incidental to the weapons covered under the Second Amendment?
Different judges have reached wildly different conclusions since the Supreme Court’s decision in NYSRPA v. Bruen last June, particularly regarding the so-called large capacity magazines often banned in blue states. It is no surprise then that the outcomes of the various legal challenges taking aim at those prohibitions have primarily been settled depending on which side a particular judge falls on this very question. Two major decisions handed down in the last week demonstrate this. |

When the Supreme Court handed down Bruen I think most people expected hardware bans would be next on the chopping block. That’s where all the energy on the gun-rights side was focused. It’s also where the Court itself focused when deciding what cases to grant, vacate, and remand for further hearings.
Instead, the immediate effect has been seen in criminal cases that litigate who can be barred from owning a gun rather than what kind of guns and accessories can be banned. The Supreme Court’s next Second Amendment case is on whether people subject to domestic violence restraining orders can own guns (and we have an analysis piece from gun-rights scholar Mark W. Smith on the challenges facing amici in that case). |

A jury on Thursday found a delivery driver not guilty in the shooting of a YouTube prankster who followed him around a mall food court earlier this year.
Alan Colie, 31, was acquitted of aggravated malicious wounding in the shooting of Tanner Cook, 21, who runs the “Classified Goons” YouTube channel.
The jury was split though on two lesser firearms counts, and decided to convict him on one and acquit him on the other.
The April 2 shooting at the food court in Dulles Town Center, about 45 minutes west of the nation’s capital, set off panic as shoppers fled what they feared to be a mass shooting.
Colie pleaded not guilty and said he was acting in self defense. |

Playground shootings, while uncommon, happen in New Jersey. They happen frequently in nearby Philadelphia and New York City. Police are usually only a response force after the gunman has left.
Many people in New Jersey feel unsafe being sitting targets, waiting for the next park shooting and Phil Murphy wants to keep it that way, by barring legal and responsible gun owners a means of self-defense when they’re the next target of gun crime, which has been heightened by the governor’s soft-on-crime policies, bail reform and freeing of violent offenders from prisons. |

The attorney for a local machine gun business owner continued to argue in a rebuttal filed on Tuesday that his client didn't commit any wrongdoing in a firearms conspiracy case.
Prosecutors were especially infringing on the Second Amendment rights of Robert Krop, co-owner of the shooting range The Machine Gun Nest, Krop's attorney, Dan Cox, said.
In their response, prosecutors said Cox was not offering any new evidence that a judge could take into consideration in a second motion to dismiss. |

However, the court’s conservative justices also tend to argue that constitutional rights are balanced by responsibilities to promote a functional society, a concept known as “ordered liberty.” The practical question is how to know the proper balance between liberty and order. If the right to carry a gun can be regulated but not eradicated, limited but not eliminated, where is the line?
The court’s answer in Bruen is history – a current law does not have to match a specific historical one exactly, but it has to be similar in form and purpose. Whatever gun regulations Americans allowed during the early Republic – the critical period from around the 1780s to around the 1860s at the time of the Civil War... |

California’s Governor Gavin Newsome, D, once again thumbs his nose at the U.S. Supreme Court over the Second Amendment. Newsome panders to the anti-Second Amendment, radical Democrat contingent hanging his presidential aspiration’s hat on banning guns.
The premise is if he can successfully ban firearms in California it will result in an anti-Second Amendment tidal wave sweeping the country with Newsome riding it on a surfboard to the presidency. |

Bills signed into law on Tuesday by California Governor Gavin Newsome increase taxes on firearm and ammunition purchases as well as add tighter restrictions to concealed carry. Governor Noem is taking this opportunity to try and bring more people to South Dakota.
The passage of Assembly Bill 28 adds an eleven percent excise tax to all sales of firearms and ammunition.
“There are states that are increasing taxes. It’s definitely a state we want to stay away from,” said Silencer Central CEO Brandon Maddox. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American... The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state government, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people. — Tench Coxe, Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788. |
