As statewide elections loom, New York politicians are firing on all cylinders on the issue of gun control. Gov. Andrew Cuomo, facing a challenger from New York City activist Cynthia Nixon in the Sept. 13 Democratic primary, has taken to Twitter to paint President Donald Trump and the National Rifle Association as "bankrupt bedfellows."

Amid the seemingly continuous, ever-unchanging gun debate in the United States, anti-gun activists have set their sights on large American gun manufacturers such as Smith & Wesson, Remington, and Ruger. To them, it seems that the only thing blocking new firearms prohibitions is the evil, huge, money-grubbing American gun manufacturers, which supposedly prop up the National Rifle Association (NRA). However, as with many beliefs held by gun-control advocates, reality provides an inconvenient contrast to the idea that convincing a few gun manufacturers could help gun control become law. In actuality, the gun market is decentralized and international, with only a few large players, which have little, if any, control over the market. |

Police watched over the two groups, which stood on opposite sides of the store’s main entrance. |

With the confirmation hearings for Judge Brett Kavanaugh to be elevated to the U.S. Supreme Court beginning on Tuesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, the gun prohibition lobby is pulling out all the stops to fight the nomination.
In an email blast earlier this week, anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety declared, “we know Judge Kavanaugh’s extreme outlier approach to the Second Amendment would elevate gun rights above public safety, and if he is confirmed, it could be disastrous for our fight to end gun violence.” |

A common trope is that snubnose revolvers are not recommended for the beginner. Despite a snubbie being one of the classic choices of concealed carry pistol, the recoil and short sight radius will ensure bad shooting will ensue. Plenty of people vastly more experienced than the guy writing this have insisted it’s a master’s weapon. Getting truly accurate with one takes a lot more skill at shooting and range time to get there than, say, a Glock 19 or lightweight Commander 1911 or…name any other popular concealed carry gun. |

Uber suspended driver Robert Westlake after he allegedly used a gun in self-defense in Polk County, Florida, earlier in the week. On August 29 Breitbart News reported that Westlake was driving an Uber when a pickup veered toward him, then came to a stop in front of him, thereby forcing him to stop in the middle of a highway. Dashcam video then showed the pickup driver exit his vehicle and allegedly threaten the Uber driver while walking toward the Uber with something in his hand. |

Gun owners in Vermont refuse to allow government on any level to infringe on their right to keep and bear arms, as protected by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. In pleadings filed last week, the Gun Owners of Vermont, joined by several gun and ammunition retailers, are challenging a state law requiring a Federal Firearms License (FFL) for all transfers of weapons, including “privately and legally owned firearms.”

On behalf of Washingtonians and the National Rifle Association for Freedom, the National Rifle Association launched an informational website. Initiative1639.org exposes how this extreme gun-control ballot initiative will add new restrictions on the exercise of Second Amendment rights, regulate ordinary, recreational guns in common use as “assault” weapons, drive up the costs of being a gun owner, and allow the government to authorize the surrender and confiscation of firearms as part of a verification process, all without doing anything to meaningfully address violent crime in Washington State.

Signs posted to entryways at Dryden Elementary School, a squat brick building in this far-flung, southwest corner of the state, warn in large letters, “No firearms allowed on premises.” In this stretch of Appalachia, hunting is ritual and it’s not uncommon for homeowners to carry guns to ward off coyotes from sprawling farms. The county (population 23,750) flirts with the Tennessee and Kentucky borders. Homes are tucked amid cow pastures and tree thickets. But not even this remote corner of Virginia, where coal once reigned as king, is immune from the safety fears inflamed by the February shooting rampage at a school in Parkland, Fla. |

In what might come as a shock to the legacy press, it turns out there are plenty of young people who value their Second Amendment rights and are willing to fight for them. Case in point: 18-year-old Hannah Brumbles of Deer Island, Ore. Last week, the Beaver State’s Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) ruled in the young woman’s favor after she challenged a Walmart policy that denied shotgun and rifle sales to young adults ages 18 to 20. |

On the first weekend of their general election campaigns, a coalition of Democratic candidates running for state and federal office huddled on a blistering street corner in Miami with their sights set on a familiar target: firearms. A spate of school shootings across the nation in recent months, and the activism that emerged from South Florida after 17 students and educators were killed at a Parkland high school on Valentine’s Day, reignited the issue of guns in America as Democrats push to flip Tallahassee and Washington. |

One of the best tools at a defensive shooter’s disposal may be a rimfire pistol to practice with. The firearms are relatively inexpensive, as is the ammunition, which makes more practice, more affordable. As well, the .22s low recoil allows shooters to isolate and improve fundamental skills such as grip, sight picture and trigger press. There are a wide array of suitable firearms on the market today, from sporting-style .22s to rimfire reproductions of popular center-fire guns. |
