"Counterterrorism authorities would be granted unprecedented access to law enforcement and commercial databases containing billions of records about private citizens under a bipartisan bill to restructure the intelligence system that the Senate began debating yesterday."

"The proposed national information-sharing network eventually would link hundreds or thousands of local, state, federal and commercial computers ... The new network would enable authorized investigators to draw on details about where suspects live, the cars they drive, their associates, their police records and their possible ties to terrorist activities." "The following statement has been issued by Constitution Party Presidential candidate Michael Anthony Peroutka whose running mate is Dr. Chuck Baldwin:"

"At various campaign stops around the country, President Bush has said, to applause, that he stands 'strongly for the Second Amendment, which gives every American the indivisible right to bear arms.' But, his failure to support Rep. Mark Souder's (R-Ind.) legislation which would repeal all of Washington DC's laws which prohibit private gun ownership shows that when it comes to the Constitutionally-protected right of individual citizens to keep and bear arms, Mr. Bush is all talk and no action." ...

"Since a national act banning assault weapons expired Sept. 13, activists on national, local and campus levels have debated its impact on the future of gun violence." ...

"David Jones, director of the North Carolina Governor’s Crime Commission, said nothing negative has been said 'among commission members or anyone in our circles' about the ban. 'By and large, they would be in favor of its continuation,' he noted.

"In Durham, activist groups such as the Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham, are adamant in their approval of the ban."

"'We have increased the risk factor for this community,' RCND director Marcia Owen said. 'The availability and accessibility [of assault weapons] has increased the risk to public health.'" ...

"The assault weapons ban, part of President Clinton's 1994 crime bill, has just passed into history. Politicians, leaders of law enforcement agencies and gun-control advocates are predicting dire rises in crime and literally thousands of assault weapons pouring onto America's streets." ...

"American-manufactured assault weapons were not banned from production by the 1994 law. Certain cosmetic features, i.e., bayonet lugs, flash suppressors and collapsing stocks were banned from firearms produced for civilian sale after the bill's effective date. It did not ban the sale or resale of firearms produced with those features before that date." ...

"The federal assault weapons ban is and was a fraud. It was all smoke and mirrors. Anyone with an ounce of brains could have figured this out. But politicians, the news media, law enforcement, pro- and anti-gun groups all conspired to keep this from the public. The general public never had a clue what it was all about."

State police say Debo shot the 50-year-old Moore Friday night in the couple's home in Scriba, in Oswego County about 35 miles northwest of Syracuse.

FULL TEXT BELOW:

The fate of a Pincher Creek police officer is in the hands of a jury.

R.C.M.P. Constable Michael Ferguson is accused of second degree murder. He shot and killed a prisoner in a police cell five years ago.

In closing arguments, the crow prosecutor said Ferguson shot Varley in a fit of rage.

The defence argues it was self-defence because Varley had tried to grab the gun.

This is the third time Ferguson has been tried on the charge.

Court has been told the encounter between Ferguson and Varley began October 3rd, 1999, when the officer was dispatched to a hospital in nearby Pincher Creek.

Varley and Ferguson got into a fight at the hospital.

Varley was arrested for public drunkenness and taken to police cells where a second scuffle occurred 10 minutes later.

Well-known liberal politicians such as Senators Chuck Schumer and Ted Kennedy have armed bodyguards. The wives of politicians, such as Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle's wife, Linda, also have bodyguards. "The change came in response to the district court decision stating the state's conceal-and-carry law was unconstitutional. The sheriff retains the authority to issue permits to people seeking to carry, hold or possess a pistol for the cities of Brainerd, Baxter, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes, Breezy Point, Emily, Crosslake, Crosby and Deerwood."
