"Comanche County District Attorney Robert Schulte says charges won't be filed against a Lawton businessman who admitted to shooting another man in the face last month." ...

"... Rayl finally did come to the sheriff's department more than a month after the shooting to answer questions. As it turns out, Rayl told investigators that he was protecting his life. Sheriff Stradley said, 'It was a situation where individual came on his land in a threatening manner, came toward him in a threatening manner and the individual shot twice to get him to stay back.' The sheriff says Ricky Stamper continued to charge toward Rayl, so Rayl shot him in the face." ...

"Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been a forceful advocate on a number of issues, to the surprise of many New Yorkers and the dismay of some. But there is no major issue on which he has been stronger than gun control. The mayor has testified before Congress several times advocating sensible regulation on the way firearms are bought and sold. He's even had the city sue shady gun dealers in other states whose wares came into New York City via the nation's vast gun-trafficking network."

"This week, he was in Harrisburg, Pa., to urge the Pennsylvania State Legislature to inject at least some sanity into that state's gun laws. ..." ...

"Sen. Dianne Feinstein has frozen a bill that she says would gut federal agents' ability to shut down or severely penalize reckless gun dealers."

"'This legislation would make it difficult, if not impossible, for the ATF to penalize gun dealers who have broken the law and to prevent rogue dealers from continuing to sell guns,' said Feinstein ..." ...

"The National Rifle Association, which supports the bill, fired back."

"'Dianne Feinstein told '60 Minutes' that if she could get every man and woman to turn their guns in, she would,' NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said Thursday. 'As a supporter of Draconian gun-control and gun-ban measures, it is not surprising that the senator would stand in the way of good public policy.'" ...

"Kudos for the Sept. 16 front-page story, 'Hidden demons shatter a bright life.' However, not mentioned is the major vector of firearms, not only in unintentional or homicide injury, but in suicide attempts and completions."

"It is not a matter of banning firearms but of assuring responsible effective storage, safety lock selection and use."

"Independent research confirms that programs such as the NRA's Eddie Eagle just do not have any empirical evidence of working." ...

"I was shocked and saddened to read about the recent plot to attack Green Bay East High School by three youths armed with an arsenal of homemade bombs and 10 guns."

"I was even more dismayed to hear the typical liberal media response blaming lax gun control laws and the NRA for making weapons too easy to get."

"Clearly, as even the most liberal, latte-drinking, tree-hugging, gay-loving Democrat must agree, the problem is not too many guns, but too few."

"If every teacher at that school were armed with a high-powered assault rifle, those juvenile delinquents would not stand a chance." ...

"Gee, Longenecker, how can you make such a statement?"

"Easy."

"Crimes such as the Platt Canyon High School shooting can be over in moments. In taking hostages, the situation can be protracted, and the criminals largely in control of the thing ..."

"What do you do when it winds up playing out their way and ending in suicide, as they often do? It means that the criminal was in control all along."

"It means a missed opportunity in there to stop the situation from escalating. If only you will see it." ...

What is wrong with this picture? Kill someone with a gun, you go to prison. Kill them with your car, it's a 2-year circuit court misdemeanor.

A 58-year old-woman runs into the back of a 50-year-old man on a motorcycle and the man dies. The woman gets 5 years probation, plus must pay $8,600 restitution.

A 20-year-old man runs a stop sign and kills a 20-year-old woman. He gets 90 days in jail, 5 years probation and must pay $12,950 restitution.

Does Judge Judith A. Fullerton think it is OK to kill someone with a car, but not with a gun? Dead is dead.

... "Here, among the great hills and forests of Indiana, there is serenity and friendliness. Is there fear in the minds of Hoosiers elsewhere? How terrible it is to believe that guns are needed in our state parks. How frightful it must be to contemplate the need for a gun in our State Office Building, in branches of the motor vehicle bureau or in any place of worship in Indiana."

"Beatty had been arrested in Toledo for violating a park rule against concealed carry ... Beatty argued that the park ban was in conflict with State of Ohio law permitting concealed carry in Parks, since he had received a concealed handgun license. The City argued that it had the authority under Home Rule to ban all weapons in its Parks."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
To have no proud monarch driving over me with his gilt coaches; nor his host of excise-men and tax-gatherers insulting and robbing me; but to be my own master, my own prince and sovereign, gloriously preserving my national dignity, and pursuing my true happiness; planting my vineyards, and eating their luscious fruits; and sowing my fields, and reaping the golden grain: and seeing millions of brothers all around me, equally free and happy as myself. This, sir, is what I long for. -- General Francis Marion, American War of Independence, Georgetown, SC [Source: 'Marion, The Life of Gen. Francis Marion' by M. L. Weems, Ch.18]
